Cool video Andy. I pretty much get rid of any terrible albums as soon as I can if I happen to pick one up lol Not familiar with any of those you have shown other than QR and Krokus. I agree with you on the QR but the Krokus album has some good tunes on it imo. Ballroom Blitz and Midnight Maniac are kinda goofy yeah. The production is also real good. I think it was supposed to be the big break through album for them. Headhunter is my favorite though.
I'm well aware that some will love these albums but I can only give my own opinion, it's now up to others to champion them if they feel there are deserving of it!! 😎
Cool one, Andy. I like that Slayer, not a great album by no means but a fun quick listen. QR III also has some good tunes. Some of the descriptions only got me more interested in them records, hahah! Cheers
Enjoying this thread, a couple that surprised me ,Sabbat, although it’s not amazing I still enjoy it. The songs aren’t bad and I like the sound of Richie Desmond on it. Skull Fist, I was all over, some cracking tracks on it! It might be a bit templated in terms of the typical 80s chord progressions but I still love it. Great video Andy!
I find the Sabbat to be a bit all over the place musically and it gives me a headache trying to process what's going on. I so much wanted to be one of the Skull Fist lovies but can't get passed the vocals, I'm sure they have enough fans without me and will do just fine by themselves... lol
It’s nice to see a good old thread going around isn’t it!! A few there I have no idea about, but the ones I do know, like Krokus & Sabbat, I’m in agreement with you!! I like that you’ve not gone down the obvious route in your choices!!🤘🏻
Many of the threads that go around these days are pretty lame, but I couldn't turn down the opportunity of going on a wee rant with this one. One mans stinker is another mans pride and joy, it's good to celebrate our differences occasionally!
Don't mind keyboards when used to add some melody, but when all you can here are the keyboards then you've fcked up your metal album! The only thing worse is Saxophone!
I actually enjoy Cauldron and Skull fist. The Blitz is very enjoyable for me because it reminds me of when it came out and I hung out with a cousin of mine. She loved it and we would play it a lot. It's been 30 year since we have spoke. I guess people just move away from one another but anyway, think of her anytime I hear it. Great video :). It would be quite boring if we all enjoyed the same records.
I know I'm very much in the minority when it comes to Skull Fist and Cauldron, but like you say it would be boring if we all liked the same thing. One persons trash is another persons treasure! thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
Absolutely, it's all about personal opinion. I adore Flick of the Switch, Fly on the Wall, Russian Roulette, Theatre of Pain, True as Steel, Orgasmatron, and Justice for all... and so on.... each to their own. Just keep rocking everyone.
I guess one mans trash can be another's mans treasure. I checked out Runestaff and actually quite liked it, especially the song Runestaff which I have on an old Heavy Metal Records compilation. Anyway great video and thread idea.
Very cool that you checked them out and liked them! I'd hate to think anyone would avoid listening to something just because I thought it was bad, we've all got to make our own minds up!
Great video, Andy! Some of the descriptions and reactions to these albums were very funny! I know what you mean about KROKUS; in the mid-late 80s they lost their hard edge and went for a polished, poppy sound. I have 'Change of Address', which is also in that vein (and also includes a cover); a few songs are quite cheesy but I always find that each album has at least a couple of worthwhile tracks. But still, the earlier albums are way better!
Great stuff Andy…bought Skull Fists latest album and I think it’s terrible too…can’t understand the hype of this band…unfortunately have that Krokus album too 😩
I don't own any of the albums you showed, but I used to have QRIII and Thrill of a Lifetime on vinyl back in the Eighties. I remember that I had a hard time with both, specially the Quiet Riot one, but I am currently hunting down some King Kobra albums, and I wouldn't mind to have that one back in my collection. Love Carmine drumming but I still hate that cover though. Cheers!
Undisputed Attitude is one of those people love or hate. There’s no in between. Initially, I didn’t like it at all. But maybe 2-3 years after it was released, I started warming up to it. I bought this album on release day back in 1996. I knew it was all covers, but in the pre-internet era there was no way for me to sample the album before buying. It’s not there best or even among their best, but it grew on me after living with it for several years. 100% in agreement with you on that atrocity known as “The Blitz” by Krokus. Absolutely dreadful. I feel like I’m on the verge of going into cardiac arrest every time I hear their cover of Sweet’s “Ballroom Blitz” as well as “Midnight Maniac”, which if I’m not mistaken, were the two singles released from this album. Just thinking about the stupid video they made for Ballroom Blitz causes my blood pressure to increase!! 😬 🔫 😂
Perhaps if I'd known UA was a covers album before hand instead of blindly buying it and jumping straight into listening to it I may have approached it differently. Instead it was a case of thinking they had sent to the wrong CD in the box, then slowly recognising one or two songs before the penny fully dropped! I can be a bit slow sometimes 😂😂😂
Undisputed Attitude is my bottom Slayer album but it gets a play every now and then when I want to get my slayerised punk fix on. Never checked out SkullFist or Portrait. Never got on with Krokus as I was too into thrash at the time when I first heard them. Maybe should go back and check it out again except for the album you showed 😝 I’d be interested in trading for Sabbat but if you find anyone else closer to you than what I am that wants it that would make more sense.
The Sabbat is not a pricey album, certainly worth much less than postage to OZ! lol. Given its from 1991 it just goes to show how bad it is, 90s vinyl usually goes for a premium.
Haha I love the name of the video dude! 🤣🤣🤣 That Slayer album is terrible and I only have it in my collection because it says Slayer in the name! Not heard of Portrait or Sabbat so there bands I need to check out 🤔
I can't comment too much on these as I don't really know them. I can see why the Tygers and Krokus turned up on this list though. Can't decide if it's a good or a bad thing that people have do many terrible albums in their collection, but it is interesting to hear why they got them. 🤘🤘
Mine tend to stay as I'm too lazy to get rid or don't want to break up a collection. As space is becoming a premium, I'm having to make some tough choices!
KROKUS Head Hunter album was their true masterpiece to me. It's an incredible classic Metal album in my opinion. And they have never topped it in my opinion of course.😂I'm really liking these kinds of videos you all have been doing. Sometimes the truth hurts people.😂🤘
One Vice At A Time was my intro to Krokus and it blew me away, Headhunter is a close second. People are fools if they are hurt by my opinion, my truth doesn't have to be the same as theirs!
Only just got round to watching this! 😂 Great vid & some good choices, (although I'm in the minority of those that weirdly don't mind that Slayer covers album. Although the less said about the lyrical change to the Minor Threat track the better...) I'm tempted to have a go at this myself, although I'm a little late to is as usual!
I remember a funny warning term that went around in the day - “ fillers “. I have a cd holder of 100 CDs. Willing to give them a 5th listen. Lol. Toss em away - keep the best - get rid of the rest.
There's money in them fillers don't toss 'em away. I'm in the mindset now to sell them to people that appreciate them more then me and buy more stuff I will actually play. Well... that's the theory anyway!
Jeff Hanneman was the reason behind Undisputed Aggression because of his love of punk as far as I remember. When I started listening and collecting the other year the first things I bought were Slayer when that started playing I didn't know what the hell I'd bought but I didn't even know Jeff was dead so what do you expect 🤷♂️. Loving this thread because I'm playing albums that have been on a shelf for a few years now. I think Haunting the Chapel deserves a dust off as I'm not spinning Undisputed Aggression. 💯🤘🏻 Got nothing to say on the rest 👍🏻
I only really started buying Slayer albums after JH had passed as well, never did anything for me back in the day but like most of their stuff these days. I hope people don't steer clear of these albums just cos I don't like them, you may find a gem or two here (but don't bank on it 😂😂😂)
Wow, I feel lucky to say I don't own any of those. How I managed that I have no idea 🤣 I'm sure I must have come close at one time or another to getting that QUIET RIOT or KROKUS album but luckily it looks like I dodged a bullet... or a bomb in this case. Great episode, Andy, Keep Rockin' 🤘
You need to get Skullfist's first album "Ahead of the Pack." It's incredible! You will like it. Trust me. The one you showed is their second album. It's not very good, you're right. I bought that Sabbat album back in 1995 as a teenager and I love it. Maybe it's nostalgia. I love the medieval guitars on the last song, and that voice of his is so gothic. The song's actually have bones and the riffs are actually quite angry. Even the band says that the riffs are as angry as they were at the time. And they were not happy. Makes for a great album if you ask me. The album is very dark and medieval. And the song about the Bermuda triangle is haunting! Love that album!
Nice video, Andy. Interesting observations on some albums. Quite right about the debut album Portrait. I might not call it horrible and obnoxious, but after so many opinions praising it, I wonder if we've heard the same album. Skull Fist showed up, okay, let it be, but for me it's not this album - "Chasing the Dream" is delicious🤘, but its successor "Way of the Road" is a first-class crap, boring, indigestible mush🤮 Now I was wondering what albums I could put in the video from this thread. Of course, I have a lot of albums on my shelf that I like less than others, but I don't think I have really repulsive and terrible ones. As I don't have "St. Anger" (and I will never have), I just didn't buy them (or gave away/sold them after buying them)😎 Cheers and be well🍺🍺
As I rapidly run out of storage space I need to be more picky about what I keep. Many of these I've only kept because I'm too lazy to sell on, I'm getting to the point where that needs to change though.
Well, I think out of those ones I know of two of them which are Tygers and Q5. And I don't dislike them as much as you. I actually quite enjoyed the Q5. It's not as strong as their first one for sure but the keyboards didn't get to me in the way they got to you, lol. Same with The Cage.... that was my first pick up from the Tygers and I quite liked it... but as with Q5, not as strong as the ones before it. But for me it's okay... I like melodic.
yeah each to their own, they are only bad albums through my eyes. If The Cage was your starting point for the Tygers then things only got better for you, I started with Wild Cat and it was all down hill in the 80s after that!! 🤣🤣
Great video Andy, I very nearly showed Q5 myself it’s just that I’m very new to it and decided to try it again this week but now I’m not going to bother. Sabbat as you know I just picked up but out of all of these I’d say keep that purely because it’s never getting a reissue and you might get someone prepared to fork out to complete the trio if you don’t feel you need to. Runestaff is one of those types of albums I have seen over the years where it could be great or utter dross but if the price is right we’ll take a chance. I thing the Night of the Demon album has that look but that turned out great. I remember all the Skull Fist hype back then 🤣
That's my thinking, it's got a surprising low price still for a '91 record, which is usually a good indication of how bad an album is, same with QRIII, it goes for buttons.
I’m no stranger to stating what I don’t like. On one of my early videos I made it very clear for my sheer absolute detest for KISS and Guns n Roses hahaha. We all hear things differently. Great video my friend
For some people the VC is a popularity contest for sure, I prefer people to be themselves and would much prefer to hear about the good the bad and the ugly. I'm with you on all of those bands with the exception of GNR and then I just like the debut album, Use Your Illusion could easily have been in this video!
Interesting watch, it's ironic that you don't like Mercyful Fate/King Diamond but love Portrait, who are massively influenced by the King... Gotta agree with you on the new album At One With None tho, it's a total banger!
I'm also not a fan of Thin Lizzy, Led Zeppelin or Deep Purple but love a hell of a lot of bands influenced by them. I appreciate what they did for the music I love but can't be doing with listening to them myself.
I’m enjoying these videos. Nothing here I passionately disagree with but would say I don’t mind Skull Fist. Maybe that’s because they were a home town band for me for a while and I saw them live many times. I never heard of the band Q5, I’m curious and going to give them a listen online. I also wouldn’t call that Sabbat album “shit” but it’s definitely not my favorite album by the band. Fun video.
Q5's debut Steel the Light is a masterpiece! This second one was spoiled by them trying to get more commercial with keyboard and drum machines, it was a step to far for me.
Of the albums listed that I've heard, I would have to say I agree with most except Q5. I like that album quite a bit, but I haven't heard their first album so I don't have anything to judge it against.
If you heard the first album, er, first you'd notice the drop off with the second. Don't get me wrong there are some great song there, they were just poorly executed in the studio.
I like everything you showed, but i dont know that nwobhm band you showed and the SLAYER one is my least fave album by them. But the Q 5, QUIET RIOT, KROKUS... are magic albums. We can not always agree Andy lol
One persons trash is another persons treasure! And look we can disagree and still be friends 😃. Runestaff is very misleading being categorised as NWOBHM it's more AOR if anything, I expect you'd like it a lot!! 😂😂
@@metalmogul Checking them right now. I hear some new wave sound to it, not nwobhm. Like pop new wave with a good female vocalist but i am not blown away. Will check somw other songs by them, i dont give up lol
I know I love seeing albums that I like that other people don’t. It just shows the differences amongst us and how we all connect to different albums for different reasons. Although, some are universal, such as St. Anger.😆😆😆😆😆
Nice job Andy! This is a good way to present albums that you don't like- no hyperbole or trashing them for no reason, just saying "this isn't for me because ____". People do get way to defensive about albums they like sometimes and react poorly to any naysayers.
Jeez I didn't think Quiet Riot III was all that bad. But you could definitely tell that they were trying to go the power pop route. I did not recognize many of them Andy. But it was surely interesting to watch~ Rob/Boston
Good stuff! I totally agree how ones opinion should have zero impact on anothers opinion. It's just preferences. I like Zeppelin, but I also love The Beatles, The Clash, Megadeth and Metallica for example, but I know alot of folks in the Metal community do not. This is the sound of me giving 0 shits! Great list. I can't entirely agree, only bacause in fact there are artist there I hadn't heard of. 100% agree on QRIII, that's the last QR I listened to. Love the idea, and may upload one of my own in the future. Haven't had time for much recently. But soon I hope! Cheers!🤘🎶🤘
@@metalmogul - ...and some consider their own opinion far too important as well, unfortunately. Alas if everyone could consider their own opinion just opinion and not the be all end all, I'd suggest we'd have a much better world...not to get too philosophical. But I did Lol! Anyway. Keep 'em coming. Love the channel! Peace.✌️🤘🤘
Ohhhhhhh hot takes. Hahaha I like some of these albums. And not only because I have close ties with them. But I get it. Some people like olives. Some don’t. Always enjoy shows like this.
@@metalmogul ha! says you. I spent a lot of time with cauldron and skull fist. Worked on the covers etc. Great bunch of guys. As far as wanting to be an 80s band, they never really left it. I’m a fan, but I guess you have impeccable(r) tastes than me. That’s my cross
@@CHROMIUMDIOXIDERADIO I so much wanted to love Skull Fist, when I started doing these vids 5/6 years ago all the cool heavy metal VC kids (Greeno, LJ, Scott Waters) were purring over them but they just didn't click with me. I've been in the metal wastelands alone ever since.. sob.. As for Cauldron it was the song Tears Have Come that pushed me away, I can't help but hear the lyric sung as "Tears Of Cum" and couldn't get passed it and spoiled my enjoyment of them thereafter, so that one is on me, I ended up giving my albums to the Rock Scout - that's my cross.
Hahahaha that tears of cum was intentional. It was about an adult star that was murdered in the 80s. But I get it. We like what we like. I’m a guy that loves AOR as well. I take shit for it even in my own home.
That's one fun thread. I happen to enjoy this Skull Fist album, so my taste in metal must be really horrible 😂. Portrait have been on my want list for quite some time now. Cheers 🤘.
I really wanted to love that Skull Fist album but I couldn't get passed the vocals. Portraits are a 4 out of 5 band for me, I love 4 of their albums but this one is just terrible in my eyes. Thanks for watching 🤘🤘
I don't disagree with any of these but there were a number I haven't heard yet either I was considering putting No Prayer For The Dying on the list but looking at the track list I'm forced to put it back as there are a fair bit of songs I REALLY like on that one.
There were a few "big" albums I nearly put on here but I thought NPFTD would be a step too far for some people on here, lol. Easily my 17th favourite Maiden album!
Check Nightshade, successor to Q5. They returned to old school metal.Record company pressured them to go commercial for When The mirror Cracks. With Nightshade they returned to Metal, as I said.1st album Dead of Night is on MFN :) You might already have it.The latest Q5 is also awesome. Yeah, I like 3rd Sabbat album :) I think that production hugely harmed the sound and it sounds as it was recorded in some garage. Pretty bad sounding record.Musically it's a different album , but I like it. Richie Desmond is also an awesome singer. He's an American and before Sabbat he was in a band called Desmatron which was pretty good Power Thrash. He also plays guitar in this band.Unfortunately they recorded only one demo.
The Cage - Tygers of Pan Tang. Recently I listened to the first 4 albums, starting with the first. I read bad reviews about The Cage, I was prepared for the "shock" (even it was not quite a shock, because Crazy Nights was already going in the same direction). Anyway. I listened to it about 4 or 5 times in a month. And everytime I said to myself "yeah, they went down with this", but there was something (can't put my finger on it) that made me like it somehow. I think this is that sort of an album that people tend to dislike because of the band that made it: not TOPT on the cover, The Cage wouldn't bother anyone.
You're right The Cage was an album they were destined to make as every album from Wild Cat was headed in that direction. Personally I hate that they went in that direction, I loved the rawness of the first though still liked the next two but to a lesser extent. Their last couple of albums though, wow, absolutely fantastic!
Personally i love Skullfist and are one of my favourites from the new wave of traditional metal style but you are right with the Slayer garbage in my opinion along with most of their catalogue after Seasons. I dont think i would have 10 albums in my collection that i dislike. I have a few that are not the best but certanly dont hate them. Great stuff😃🤘
I know I'm in the minority when it comes to Skull Fist, I desperately wanted to be one of the cool kids in the VC when I started but it's juts never clicked with me.
I agree with a lot of these being bad. But I don't mind Sabbat Mourning has broken. It was the album that introduced them to me back then. So later of course I got the first two Sabbat's which as you know are brilliant.
And that's cool, just my opinion and it shouldn't influence anyone else's, but sadly some people get offended when the music they like is criticised. Thanks for watching!
Totally with you on Tygers, although I never bought The Cage. Wild Cat is a masterpiece, and Spellbound and Crazy Nights were continual steps down from there. I didn't want to go any further, cuz I do have a greatest hits that has some songs off of it. Dreadful. Same boat with Krokus, as well. I still think Headhunter is one of the best albums of the 80s, which makes The Blitz much more painful. Even as a 15yr. old, that album cover and the "glamour shots" gave me pause, but I bought it anyway. Never bought another new release from Krokus. I do like that Skull Fist album. The follow-up though, Way of the Road, would be their equivalent of The Blitz. A couple of others I'd add: WASP - Inside the Electric Circus, Scorpions - Love at First Sting, Motley Crue - Girls, Girls, Girls, Ratt- Dancing Undercover, Whitesnake's self-titled, Ozzy Osbourne - The Ultimate Sin, and ...Metallica's self-titled. I know it's low-hanging fruit, but it totally ruined a band for me that I thought, in 1986, might take the Metal Crown from Maiden.
If you haven't checked out the most recent Tygers albums I can thoroughly recommend them. Great melodic heavy metal, more polished than those first so so a different style but excellent none the less. Electric Circus?! how dare you I love that one! haha.
@@turefromfinland3264 will have to agree to disagree, Jess Cox was raw and made that first album, John Devirel was a better singer for sure but just turned them into any other band, nothing special.
Skull fist are Canadian legends, thy being said I can handle them in doses. That shit Slayer covers thing, UGH, if that’s the worst you’ve heard by them I take it you haven’t heard Diabolus in Musica? That’s faaaaarrrr worse. That being said. Great video and if I dig my head outta my ass I will do my version of this.
Skull Fist will go down in history, along with Cauldron, that reignited the traditional heavy metal movement, I'm just not a fan of how they sound but very happy they influenced a bunch of bands I do like.
I'll take your word for these albums Andy, they all look like albums and styles I wouldn't be interested in anyway. Except for the Sabbat, but I still haven't listened to them yet. I agree on the Slayer, I really don't care for covers albums. I don't count them as being in the proper discography personally 😂😀
Hi Andy!! well, it seems this thread is going to be trend of the year here in VC-(metal land). right now i don't own any of those records, but i do have to disagree with Krokus "The blitz" as it was the first record i listen from them, but yes you're right it's not "Headhunter". You're not the first one to point out KK's second record as crap, also QRIII. Never heard Q5, Runstaff ?? i will avoid them like the black plague... cheers and be well
The whole point of this video was that everyone should make their own minds up about music, one man's trash is another man's treasure and all that. If you just take my word for it then I've failed!
@@metalmogul Nope, i do understand exactly your point of view and the idea of this video, for example last night i heard on YT that Q5 record and a couple of songs of Runstaff and yes they're not good at all....
That Sabbat Album destroyed the Band, I went to a Signing they did at Tower Records in London and Richie (The Vocalist) didn't bother showing up which pretty much summed up the state the Band were in at that point.
Ah Slayer. That's a good one I like those old punks songs tho. I agree their versions aren't the best ever. I think the problem with Skull Fist is the vocals. And same with Cauldron too. Bad singing. Best Krokus was Headhunter I think. Cheers
Good riddance! 😜Early 80s Krokus is where it is at for me, raw and loud, they just got too melodic for my own personal taste. I know for a fact that some people who watch my videos think highly of that album and QRIII so that contributed to my decision to pick on them, lol.
I agree with you on most of the records you showed , Krokus' the blitz does give you the shitz . I'm into T.O.P.Ts 'the cage'... i just see it as an AOR album not NWOBHM ... cheers mate.
Honestly could never get into Sabbat. Martin Walkyier just never shuts up with constant vocals and the way he pronounces some words drives me nuts - he ends everything with "uh". So it's days-uh, soul-uh, chimes-uh, damned-uh, ground-uh, charge-uh, king-uh. Makes me want to scream 😂
I don't think there are a lot of a lot albums here that I can defend, lol. The Blitz by Krokus i find to be just OK, but it's nowhere near One Vice or Headhunter or even the recent ones where they went back to the more AC/DC esque sound, but the album Change of Address which comes after.....if you haven't heard it.... don't, stay away, lol. I could never get into Skull Fist. that King Kobra sucks. The Cage, don't hate it as much as you, but i don't listen to it as much as the first three. anyways. that's all I can comment. I might do one, or I may not, lol, depends on where I'm in the week. take care.
Agree with that Sabbat album mate, very poor. I do have a soft spot for the tygers album though. Spellbound is my favourite, but love the first 4. I guess it is time and place. I remember buying Love potion #9 on 12" pic disc from my local record shop when it released. Thought it was cracking! Its the weakest of the first 4 tygers albums, agreed.
Absolutely, that's the whole point of this, they are only bad albums in my eyes and everyone should make there own mind up. I knew for a fact making this that one or two of my choices were actual favourites of others on here. A few people have commented they will avoid those they haven't heard, I wish they'd just make their own mind up, they could be missing out on an all time favourite album!
I don't have any of these albums, or listen to any of these bands, except Slayer. And while I haven't listened to Undisputed Attitude in a long time I enjoyed it from first listen, but I loved Slayer and I loved Hardcore Punk, and had most of the punk albums Slayer covered on the CD. If someone isn't a fan of Hardcore Punk than there is no way they are going to like that album. Personally, I enjoy it a lot. The album is in no way terrible, it's just not to your taste. Reportedly though Iggy Pop and Ian MacKaye were both upset with Slayer changing the lyrics, and therefore changing the meaning of the songs.
Of course its only terrible in my opinion, and it's really only terrible (in my opinion) compared to their other albums. I like Slayer alot and i dont mind hardcore punk at all, what I don't like is Slayer doing hardcore punk. Thanks for watching and sharing your opinions, that's what is why I this.
I don't think The Blitz as an album is that bad, but Ballroom Blitz is a horrible song and cover. Obviously the earlier Krokus albums are better. Ballroom Blitz was the only thing i heard from Krokus back in the 80's and it was enough to keep me away from them for about thirty years. I have the single off QR III and it wasn't awful, it just wasn't anything that i wanted to hear more. Never heard the album. Pasi
You should definitely give it a listen and form your own opinion, my intent here is not to steer people away from these records but encourage them to make their own mind up. I know that is something you would do anyway.
You don´t like the first Portrait? Unsubscribed!!! You can´t beat "The Blitz" or "QR3" or even the Runestaff record! Fantastic albums! How dare you to bash Slayer? Seriously: Great video Andy!!!! Brilliant idea of Mike, isn´t it?
Great video! Couldn't agree with you more. All of those albums sucked. Haven't heard of half the records you showed but I know I would hate them. One other band I can't stand (actually never heard of them) is Inhuman Nature. Whenever I see somebody wear their t-shirt in a video it is an automatic thumbs down. j/k Have a nice day!
Thank you so much for liking and agreeing, I think you actually had a very good list tbh. It’s traditional heavy metal and that genre of metal is so under appreciated.
