"The Go Betweens made many friends during their ten years plus as a band. This simple recording of an early gig in a Northern club has special charm, and is left as a document to the bands strength and character. Recorded live at the Manhattan Club in Bradford on the 11th April 1983. Features Robert Forster, Grant McLennan, Lindy Morrison & Robert Vickers. "

Insanely marvellous. This has ALWAYS been my second favourite Go Betweens song, almost neck and neck with and just behind "Cattle and Cain", ever since i was privileged to be in the right time, right place and right brain to buy the album when it came out.

How brilliant. Just read Tracey Thorn's excellent book about Lindy and how amazing to see her doing her thing here. They were brilliant. I saw them in Leeds, must have been just before or after this show. I was in an audience of about 8 people. Loved every second.

''That way or nothing at all..''. The best and freshest lyrics ever, let alone the wonderfull weaving of the bass and guitar. This can only be what the New Zealand scene was hearing

Bonkers setting for a brilliant lo-fi performance of one of my all-time favourite songs by my all-time favourite band. The Beatles and The Chills are close, but performances like this clinch it for me!

Hey! Grant's playin my guitar = red ibanez Blazer DLX. A real hidden gem of a guitar from 83-ish. Should've cost 3x the $450ish it did. Belew talked'em up in GP magazine round then, though i never actually saw him playing one. Wish i had it now

"That Way" truly shows Grant's strengths as a songwriter - taking an unquestionably sad event and addressing it in a manner which is incisive and moving, but never maudlin. I actually like this better than the LP version which I find a bit "busy".

I hear this as a song about a partnership, a breakup of any kind. Could be to a friend or a lover, it changes. Agree that this is a perfectly written song.
