Great content as ever. I apply a lot of this advice to my life already but it’s scary to think how much pressure people put on themselves. Hopefully some watching this take some inspiration.

Great video as always. Agree with all Of this, it’s important however to stand back and enjoy your life in moderation, have your ‘thing’ and enjoy it, the challenge is people want more more more of everything.

Excellent video - this reaffirms so much of my own thoughts on how people 'typically' live and how I live myself. Point in case - so many people I know fall foul of lifestyle creep, and its exactly as you describe - new house + new car (usually is a range rover!!). One interesting point for 3. Getting to work; I weigh this up on the season. During November - April I go in to work more to take advantage of the free food and drinks, as well as being able to knock the heating off at home. This does work out a little cheaper for me and my travel distances.

I dread to think how much money I spent on drink, drugs, clothes, taxis, partying etc in my 20s 😂…. Good times though. Although now in my 40s I am taking life a lot more seriously, but feel I’ve lost the balance. All of my money goes on my kids and my house.. no nice clothes or fancy cars for me!

9. Impulse purchasing. My girlfriend loves to spend and tik tok got into her head that she needed a home coffee machine. Told her to wait a few weeks and revisit the idea. She realised she didn’t need to buy a coffee machine for home and admitted to it being a potential impulse purchase. Just last week turns out her work had excess stock on coffee machines so she got one for free! A happy girlfriend who has just saved herself £40+

Thing is with cars, it’s very easy to think when buying a car, that the finance is £600 a month. but then don’t take into account fuel, insurance, servicing, breakdown insurance, etc. so it can be more like £800-£900 once factored these in.

I would agree with most of your entries however, water out the tap is not the same as bottled water 💦. Bottle water is not loaded with fluoride which is bad for you. I will take heed to your list. Thanks 🙏

Like everything in life people struggle to balance things, life needs to be enjoyed, don't blow every penny but don't save or invest it all either, nothing more sad than seeing that really old guy struggling to get out of his sports car he finally treated himself too but his best years have gone. I'd rather see the younger enjoying the house and new car while they can, money can't buy you time.

Great video, never smoked, don't drink, don't commute to work, it's saved me tons of money, I've bought a new place recently, doing everything myself, I've learned a lot of new skills and it can be daunting in the beginning, but at the end of the day it feels really good to have done something by yourself, I will however stop at plumbing and electrics 😂 I'll just hire someone to do that

i drive a 10 year old toyota yaris which was my first car and am still using it. i could easily buy a lux car and all my colleagues drive BMWs and Mercs, but I just don't see a point. I have to commute though, my job is all people facing and on site, impossible to do at home. luckily my workplace is a 10 min drive, so its not an issue

I have a Samsung Note 8 and have had it since late 2017. I have 5 replacement batteries for it which cost me about a tenner, but the original is still in the phone. I also use 1p mobile and my top ups are like £10 every 4 months (as I don't really use it that much so it's the minimum of £2.50 per month they charge). I have no intentions of replacing this phone any time soon :). I bought my car outright with profits during the last bullrun, my insurance costs about £1-5 per month (ByMiles insurer) as I don't drive much, and since it is a hybrid I don't use much petrol either. My car is parked in a driveway which keeps it away from the weather also. I wear clothes until they literally are falling apart. I don't smoke. My mortgage is fixed at 2.99% until Nov 2026. I use my 0% promo credit card. I also have 0% government loans for solar panels. I don't gamble. I don't buy anything unless I really need it. I also live in Glasgow which has soft water, no need for bottled water :).

There is value to be extracted from everything you spend money on. You can buy a cheap house and be neighbours with a council house, or you can buy expensive house in a nice area with a CEO as a neighbour. You can buy a toyota and blend in with the masses, or you can buy an AMG, M or an RS car and network with well off individuals who share the same passion. I can speak from experience. These are only 2 examples. Being cheap has an opportunity cost that you can’t see or measure.

A CEO can be a nightmare neighbour, and a Council House Tenant can be an ideal neighbour. Wealth does not automatically equate to being a good person.

Excellent video Matt. Additional thoughts: 1. 80% of vapers go on to smoke actual cigarettes - the whole industry is a total lie. 2. IMHO 0% credit cards are a gateway to getting hooked on credit when the 0% runs out. Most people don't have the discipline necessary to use them correctly & the credit card companies know this, which is why they offer them in the first place.

As a heads up with phone contracts, take EE for example; standard iPhone 14 with 5GB data. £52 a month and £70 upfront. £52 x 24 = £1248 + £70 = £1318 over the life of the contract To buy outright direct from Apple - £849. Difference - £469, it's far far more expensive to get an iPhone on contract than it is to buy outright. It's also why I'm sticking to my 12 Pro-Max.

I spend £5000 a year on commuting to work just on diesel. £1000 a year car insurance and £700 ish for car servicing. I think my employer should be paying for that.
@midastheunwise2423
@midastheunwise2423 Год назад
If this was a thing that companies did, all that would happen is that they would never hire anyone who didn't live very close to the workplace, which would mean people would have to relocate for jobs a lot more. It sucks but the alternative is worse.
@ilikelampshades6
@ilikelampshades6 Год назад
@Midas the Unwise Of course, youre right. Payrises are the only answer then. I need to earn £10,000 to get £5000 after deductions. How crazy is that. So my travel costs including my payments for my car eats up over £20,000 of my salary

Well the message is good for awareness. But I’m sceptical to address this as a lifestyle. If millions are doing this the world would go bankrupt. A middle way is fine for many. If you save too much and can never see the fruits of your investment if you suddenly get cancer, die by an accident or get badly injured and depend on help 24/7 for the rest of your life. it’s sad to see that the small joy of life, the moments are slipping away though your life and end up as Ebeneezer Scrooge “don’t need Christmas, humbug”. Awareness is good of tracking the money and flow and redirect a chunk to investments, perhaps? 🙂

This is true, but in the good times most people can get by on living on credit etc. but when a recession comes and people lose jobs, that’s when being a bit careful pays off. He is not saying do all of this, just pointing out ways one could manage their finances better and create a safety net. I do agree with your point though, the world (in the west anyway) revolves around frivolous consumer spending.

No girlfriend/wife means lonely for the rest of your life 😂. Just find someone that is like minded and financially savvy like you. Me and my bf work perfectly because we both have the same goals and want to be financially independent, so we’re careful with money. We go on dates out twice a month and whilst he does usually pay (chivalry is not dead 🤪), sometimes I do and it’s usually always affordable. We find cheaper places or go during lunch time specials/discounts. We barely drink and don’t smoke at all. We make it work because we both wanna be net worth millionaires by 50. Just gotta find your person that matches you 💕
