We and the shop did refer to the tapioca balls as Boba and the popping ones as bubble. This is in Southern California. Very well could be a regional thing. A pair of youtubers I watch who are Asian and live in Australia do refer to both types as bubble tea. 🤷

It's cool to see Dan Levy highlight so many Asian must haves. Note to producers: Bubble tea IS black tapioca milk tea. Which ALSO goes by pearl milk tea AND boba tea. We call it bubble tea in the East Coast, you might call boba tea on the West Coast. Clear ignorance when you go and correct a guest on one of his favorite items!
