Which is kinda false. When I buy a new expensive piece of gear it does make me happy... for like 30 seconds which is followed by buyer's remorse... but that first 30 seconds man, worth it.
Save money when possible: Save it for buying the highest quality things that feed your passion, like guitar. You only have one life. For everything else in life, buy the cheaper items that will suffice.
Me: Hey mom can I go down to the store to pick up a little gift. Mom: sure why not Mom: hands over debit card Me: comes back with 1959 gibson les paul strolling in through the door Edit: Wow guys! didnt expect this to blow up thank You!!!
That's part of marketing in this commercial. He emphasizes that he is not sponsored and that he likes that stuff. In the description you see a whole series of links to Amazon.
Dude, you're so f*cking positive and happy. And the advice that you give, both for guitar/music related stuff or LIFE, is genuinely SO good!!!!! Thanks dude, I f*cking LOVE YOU, MAN!!!! AND EVERYONE ELSE READING THIS COMMENT I LOVE YOU, HAVE MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY WHOLE NEW YEAR! =D
I agree - lifts me every time I watch one of Paul's videos, both in terms of my understanding and capability but also my spirit. This guy is a gift for sure.
At first I was thinking "Just turn the amp off before unplugging the guitar", but you do make a good point about switching while on stage. That's way easier than having an amp per guitar. Also, "It's the holiday season, cut the postman some slack". This is probably the most wholesome thing I've ever heard said about any postal service :)
Iirc, turning the volume down to 0 on the guitar doesn't stop the amp making noise if you unplug it. Though it does at least stop noises from hitting the strings or bumping stuff :P
@@jackiebelmont5522 I haven't personally tried it but I recommend you check out D'addario's Eclipse tuner. I heard it works great. It's $10 USD, I believe
Also great things for acoustic guitar IMO: 1. Ergoplay tappert or some similar guitar support for acoustic /classical guitar. Saves your back :) 2. Blackstar Fly Acoustic or some other portable mini amp. 3. Wireless system for guitar. Those things are 🔥🔥🔥
Love how you start off with the guitar stand and then leave your Strat leaning against the wall for the remainder of the video. Bonus points for showing your cat wandering around who could knock it over at any time.
The jack plug is magic... I have a couple of cables with quiet jacks. Only about $12-15 if you need to replace a jack on an old cable anyway (and can solder). But.... it doesn't work well on active basses and far less common, active guitars. Plugs in silently, but the preamp powering up usually makes a racket that varies with type of preamp but they all have some (usually loud) power up noise.
@@teamclarkin4754 Newtrik jack only on eBay. It's NOY at all tricky to solder and (good & easy & effective strain relief). Buy one and sacrafice a cable. New cables with Newtrik start about -$35-40.
The Hercules stand is by far my best guitar-related purchase in years. I bought the 3-guitar stand, it hold my 2 guitars (with some room to grow) perfectly and this thing is kid-proof, literally! As a dad, I was weary of leaving my guitars out with my kid roaming around, with a couple of very close calls. Not anymore!
As somebody who is not a native English speaker, I must say that English is a language with an absolutely unpredictable and 100% unlogical pronunciation... Learn it by heart - that's the only way to go. But I'm in the mood for food and noodling on my guitar in the woods or buy any goods like good tools... Consider me a fool...
@@volkerfriedritz8149 Haha! Da hast Du völlig recht. The thing that always got me was that it's a hook, but a hooker, and one smokes a hookah. I somehow developed a feel for what sounds right-Sprachgefühl-but now I'm getting my just desserts as I'm learning music theory. 😄 I really think Paul's accent is the loveliest thing! I'm kind of jealous of it, frankly. That and the lustrous hair. But really mostly his musicality.
@@StefanGBucher Hallo Stefan, ja genau. His videos are amazing in every way imaginable. And it doesn't matter that Paul doesn't pronounce English exactly like a native speaker. To me, making fun of that is just arrogant. BTW, I love the dutch language and my impression is that dutch people are definitely way more tolerant than average.
@@volkerfriedritz8149 Oh, I wasn't making fun of Paul, who is a gift to the world! I'm a fan of accents in general, and Paul's accent is one of the best things ever! Nothing but love here! 😊
I know that only a very few people hold the same view, but the noise while you plug in a guitar is just ✨iconic✨. For me, it gives the feeling as though the guitar had woken up to life, being dormant before it was plugged in, and gives me that extra first motivation when I start playing. The only place I see myself using the noiseless cables are when I am swapping guitars on stage, which hasn't happened till now. Don't get me wrong. I know that the noise annoys a lot of people. And this product would be a game changer for them. I am just stating my point of view and this product is just not for me and also not for the people who think like me.
Two words: Strap. Locks. Changed the strings on one of my guitars and cleaned 'er up as best as she's ever looked. Super excited to play. I turned around to adjust my amp settings and the front hole fell off the strap button. Now I have two massive chips where the finish used to be!
Really loved this video, the list and your positive guitar 🎸 vibes. Lots of great ideas to enhance our accessibility to new tech and great stuff to up our game whether its maintenance or cleaning, etc
I’m guessing other beginners - intermediates like me can relate to feeling intimidated listening to a teacher.... but your style of teaching is fun and I don’t feel dumb! I want to learn the next thing and the next and the next! Thanks soooo much Paul!
Hello Paul, All your tips are great, but I'm just wondering why you (like a lot of others youtubers) always provide links to the products on A...n. There's a lot of retailers on the web. Not the common interest that A. becomes bigger than it already is... Anyway, Great channel !
Thanks Paul. Also couldn't be without Transcribe, which I've used for the last 12 years or so. You just pay once (about £25 - £30 now?) and all updates are free.
I only watched the nutty professor one time and now every time I hear someone say Hercules all I can hear is Eddie Murphy saying Her-ka-lees, Her-ka-lees...anyways, I’m getting one of those stands!
Oh my god, Transcribe! Where has this app been all my life? I was googling for something like this a few weeks ago and couldn't find anything good. I've been using Audacity to do some of it, but Transcribe does everything I want, this is amazing!
The plug at the beginning is actually the Neutrik Silent Plug that is being manufactured separately to this cable. The manufacturer of this cable just used those plugs. So if you want to solder your own cables or just dont want to buy this particular cable, you can just get the Neutrik SIlent instead. www.neutrik.com/en/neutrik/products/plugs-jacks/plugs/professional-1-4-plugs/silentplug
Hey man, have you ever listened to Jose Gonzalez? He has a pretty unique way of playing. I'd like to see you do a video on him sometime. Keep up the good work. I'm a bass player, and I still love this channel haha.
Thanks for the tip on the guitar stand. The ones I've had have driven me nuts. On one of them the feet folded when I put a morgan jazz guitar in it resulting in it falling on the floor and cracking the neck. I also had a strat tipping out of one because there was no lock holding it in place and I stupidly gave it a nittle nudge whilst vacuuming. Lucklily no damage other than a tiny nick at the headstock and a broken string. The rubber feet on many of them also have a nasty tendency of leaving black marks on wooden floors - grrrr! I've resorted to storing all my guitars in their cases in a closet.
Hi I would be really interested in a video of how to take care of an acoustic guitar! Are we supposed to apply products? Is oil needed in any places? Is it ok for the guitar to be out of its case most of the time?
Hi Paul, just out of curiosity this very specific question: in your vid I can see the pole pieces of your ES-345 have alternalting diagonal orientation. I saw other sources where pickups were set up in similar ways. Can you tell what the sonical advantages are of this?
Thank you so much for the recommendations! I am definitely going to get a tuner I hate using guitartuna not Bc it’s bad. It’s just that I can only do standard tuning
Hey Paul, thank you for the videos. You are by far the best RU-vidr I've discovered in 2019. I love guitars (even though I suck at playing them) and your videos are just the right motivation to keep pushing myself into getting better and not be stuck with the old tunes I've been plying for years.
i have no idea how i ended up subbing here. but i love abelton live lite and guitar pro too. and the latter can do some of the things that transcribe can do, but looks like it can do it much better wth chord and note recogintion!
- No need for an expensive Klotz cable : this jack is a Neutrik plug costing about €10. Best cables around are ALL available from the REAL cable-makers. No need to get crooked with rebranded cables: Sommer, which is probably the best REAL cable-maker for guitar use, even proposes their cables directly fit with Neutrik jacks. - I have some 20-40 year old guitars made by Leduc or Vigier that NEVER needed maintenance... - Les Paul broken heads : it's deliberately made fragile so you think it's your fault and buy a new guitar! - There are free tuner apps for your phone! - Kemper : no surprise you sound like anyone. BTW, just took out a Leduc from her gigbag, hadn't played her for months... She was still perfectly in tune!!!
3:20 Those Hercules stands suck! I have had one of the 3 guitar stands from them and the problems are as follows: 1) after a couple years of use, the grippy rubber handle becomes sticky. This is something that happens to that type of rubber and is a big problem with Hercules stands. 2) because of the nature of the plastic and rubber, it breaks down over time and the stand actually failed, dropping my guitar on the floor. The two fingers that hold it in place literally broke off. From what I understand, this is a chemical reaction that the plastic/rubber material goes through over time and it decays. DO NOT BUY HERCULES stands
What would REALLY interest me (not being a guitar player but an electrical engineer interested in music) is: How does the "silent" plug work? --- O.k., I just found a video that explains: A reed contact which short-circuits the live and the ground connection, operated by a small magnet which is pushed back when the plug is fully inserted into a socket. Quite brilliant and straightforward! What still astonishes me: That you don't hear a pop or crackling noise when the contact opens or closes.
Please do a video on the Kemper. Actually why not make one about effect boards vs regular pedals? Would you combine them? Would you ever use something like Line6 Helix/Boss GT 1000? etc...
I was watching your video at work (in Mexico )and a coworker asked me if I was watching an Alex Fernandez (Mexican stand-up comedian) video... you do look a lot like him, except your videos are far more entertaining, educational and fun. Cheers from Mexico! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QcNEbZ9g380.html
Does Klotz ( Noiseless ) do Right-angle cables? I love the music Nomad products. I own about 9 things from them & very happy with all-of-my purchases. Great info here Paul.
I just wish parents knew how the internet works. Otherwise, the only people who watch these gift idea videos are us guitarists who already know this stuff exists. For that matter, I wish parents knew phones have cameras nowadays, so you can take pictures of what we use, and then Google what you see. Maybe that is what we should ask Father Christmas? I wish everyone born before 1960 could be technologically-proficient.
Great suggestions but most are rather inexpensive, which are good gifts. Buying a DAW, especially the most expensive one is quite a purchase. I think I spent $600 for Ableton
