great video. thanks for uploading. I'd like to begin to monetise a music career. I have some ability and am fortunate to have musician friends. I have been employed (in the FMCG industry) for enough years to have payed off my mortgage and have a small amount of savings. What's holding me back? I am slow to discern my aim or purpose and I'm quite introverted. Hopefully working on my music over the next few weeks and taking part in local gig opportunities will help me build my confidence.

@@ManCalledMif Hi I would also ask close friends what yoy are the things you do very differently to otger musicians and also take tge opportunity to find out everything about other musicians you perform with and what they are aiming for? Staff at the gigs probably see several performers a month are you brave enough to ask them what they think is different about your music? Others can see aspects of your uniqueness easily but won't automatically offer their opinions.

If all else fails the magic wand technique is obe i do annually. I imagine ive been given a wand and can have my dream life but i have to be specific. I take about a week coming back to it, adding detail, focusing on where am i, what am i doing? Who for ? Who is with me? Then work back... What did i do to get there? Who did i need to contact ? Right up to the question what can i do today no matter how small that will move me or my knowledge in that direction? I revisit the vision regularly and list what are the next things my hero would do to move forward? Then I make myself do it. Get your dream then tell others and eventually you will find the people or opportunities to help you. K

I just found your channel today mate. I’m glad to say I found it. I think the name you chose is absolutely perfect 👌 I’ve had a love hate relationship with money for years. I’ve mostly seen it as a disempowering thing as I haven’t had as much control of my life as I would like. I’m about to start the process of retraining which will help me improve my initial pay grade to get started. I wish they taught this stuff in secondary school. But I won’t start on that subject, lest I go off on a tangent. In any case rate what your doing. I’ve subbed, liked and shared your channel with friends as you deserve a bigger audience. Kindest regards

My number 1 challenge has been getting my husband on board . I think he is starting to engage now . But we are older than you and have 14 years left on our mortgage . I have just renegotiated and knocked off 6 months in one day . Woohoo. He has agreed that the additional saving we can do as an overpayment and any windfalls we get will go to the mortgage too. Next step is project" increase income but avoid the creep"

I'm loving your work Ken. We are paying ours off so we are safe. Then we can take any risks we want with subsequent earnings. Just becoming debt free made us brave. I would never have attempted to write or started travelling outside the tourist trail with the kids but once you have a cushion and low expenses you can take more risk. I feel more in control of our life than ever. Grwat tips!

Paying off a mortgage or building your house pot and buying cash when you decide to put down roots (as I did), gives huge piece of mind. Putting the money assigned for the former mortgage or house pot into a retirement growth pot sees it accelerate exponentially (in a similar manner to the getting out of debt process sees the house pot and retirement pot grow). With no mortgage, if or when your job is made redundant, you have very few outgoings and can live for extended periods on your emergency cash pot with minimal pressure. The piece of mind cannot be underestimated, so much so you can pick and choose which jobs you choose to take… In my case, after looking at numerous jobs and asking myself what I really wanted from life, I changed my approach from full on accumulation to semi-retiring, as I had crossed to line into lean FI without even realising it (I had blinkered myself for the full FI goal), and changed to coasting into full FI as a lifestyle option (and earning a fraction of what I used to, with a part-time job less than 15 minutes away, door to door) instead. I now work Monday and Tuesday, have Wednesday, Thursday and Friday off, and then it’s the weekend again! If I had a mortgage, I would have been under pressure to take any job. Full FI will happen in less than 18 months’ time whether I do anything more towards it or not… having no mortgage and being definite in what I wanted gave me this lifestyle option!
@TheHumblePenny

Hi Chris Your comment is GOLD! It's a pleasure to hear someone else share this reality 😊. Thank you
@outdoorsman1140
@outdoorsman1140 4 года назад
@@TheHumblePenny Although I knew what FI was years ago, I only learned about the FIRE movement in the last few months… I thought it was just me out there on my own being a bit odd, and a self-confessed tight ass when it came to controlling my outgoings, and building my assets! Now I find that there is a whole movement out there and they have/are applying the same broad general principles that I have been applying for years! Could I have done it better and quicker with the mutual teaching that the FIRE community are doing… Yes! But even if you do it roughly right, or do your own variation for your particular circumstances, it will still work!

I like this and have been thinking of doing similar. I moved to Wales from England and bought a house with cash. I have pensions maturing in 9 to 10 years and an amount in an ISA. I will probably quit my full time job in January and get a part time position close to home. I have little motivation to continue the 9 to 5 and would rather have less money and more time while im still able to BMX and do outdoor stuff without having a coronary.
@outdoorsman1140
@outdoorsman1140 3 года назад
@@markd6838 The best type of part-time work for enjoying the outdoors is a seasonal part-time job, working in the winter and having the summer off. Going part-time is a good way of phasing into full retirement if you choose to let go of work that you enjoy and keeping your hand in and keeping yourself engaged mentally with something that you have done for years. It’s nice to step back and not being more senior and have all of the pressures that come with it, but working at partial throttle, just over tick over, knowing that you could step up at any time you want to without pressure. If you step back from a more senior position, others might be surprised at what your tick over can deliver. It can be a shock having lots of time on your hands if you have spent years working flat out, so phasing into retirement is a good way to go. It might even be worth running for a while with 100% of all earned income (or anything over what you would have in full retirement) going into investments while you adjust and get used to knowing that you don’t need the money that you used to earn. It’s nice to be in a position where you choose to work and where they need you more than you need them. Good luck with your phased retirement.

I so agree with the balancing challenge. It is HARD! About confidence, seeing me create on RU-vid today, would you believe that I grew up being labelled as shy all the time? My number 1 problem is lack of discipline, I’m trying to work on this but as I reflect on my life in general I see a common thread running through which is a lack of follow through...Any tips of becoming more self disciplined? 🤦🏽‍♀️
@TheHumblePenny
@TheHumblePenny 4 года назад
Hi Anita Very good question. This requires more than a RU-vid comment but I'll share some thoughts. Lack of self discipline and follow through is tied to lack of self belief (although you might not immediately see this as the problem). An easy win for self discipline and follow through is to seek out people who are achieving results and get to know them. Ask them to hold you accountable. This will do a lot for your self belief and mindset. Another thing I'd recommend is to spend some time alone thinking of your youth. Are there any key events that specifically knocked your self-belief? Were (or are) your parents supportive of you? Do you rely on the approval of others? Other questions to consider are: Have you achieved self-discipline in other areas of your life? E.g. in your work environment? If so, this might imply that you need someone (possibly a life coach) to help you create a life plan or at least to guide you past the challenge you have in your mind when it comes to doing your own thing. You might also spot certain ingredients in your work environment that you could recreate when it comes to a different environment such as doing your own thing.
