In January 2024, we created a video detailing 10 things we hated about our Land Rover Defender 110 Hardtop. The video was intended to just be a bit of fun, but it would appear that some people took it very seriously indeed.
To clear up any confusion, we thought, why not give it another go? This time, we're sharing 10 things we love about the car/van/vehicle/off-road vehicle (or whatever you want to call it, Nigel!)

It’s amazing how much negativity there is about the new defender. I’m on about 50k miles of overlanding and got my first two warning lights this week. One for a puncture after I picked up a screw on the highway and the other for low windscreen washer fluid 😂. Thanks for sharing a positive review. Cheers

I have a MY21 D250 nearly 43000 miles used daily and had some serious off road work, I've had the self tensioner done but that's about it. Love driving it every day. Was going to sell it but couldn't find anything better so kept it.

Amazing! I think you’re right, finding a replacement that does as many things brilliantly as the Defender is a tricky quandary! - John

BRACE! BRACE! BRACE! And welcome to the comment section. Let us know what you think, whether we missed anything, whether John's terminology is correct, and whether John is TOO positive about this car/van/vehicle/off-road vehicle (or whatever you want to call it, Nigel!).

As a sole trader that’s not vat registered it would cost me much more to buy the “van” than to buy a five seater which drives me crazy

Same here, I used to buy a new defender every four years for my business and private vehicle. I started off with basic 90 pick ups with Iffor Williams canopies on the back. Had a 200TDI, 300TDI, TD5, then got a 2.4 90 County hard top followed by a 2,4 110 Utility and then finally a 110XS Utility in 2015. Because I always got a decent trade in value on the previous truck they were not expensive to purchase compared to cheaper vans or 4x4. My top of the range 110 XS was about £33,000 INCLUDING the Vat! In 2019 there was no new Defender to buy then when they did replace it they produced a brilliant spiritual successor to the Discovery( what’s the point of Discovery 5 now)? They should have built a direct competitor to Rangers/ Hilux/ DMax and pinched their customers. The bottom of the range new Defender was £20,000+ more than the top of the range old model. I don’t want or need surround sound cameras, 1 reversing camera would have been fine . I want a practical truck not a mobile PlayStation! Sorry for the rant, I’m just bitter and twisted that Jerry McGovern buggered up my master plan of retiring with a defender that was no more than 4 years old😳! I’ve still got my 2015 defender and can’t make my mind up whether to keep or sell whilst it still has some value. I did have hopes for the Grenadier but it’s just as expensive as a defender. As a life long Land Rover Enthusiast I’m quite gutted that Land Rover no longer produce a vehicle for people like me. I’m glad you like your new Defender and I only hate the ones with ridiculous low profile tyres, the 110 in this vid looks pretty good with steel wheels, just wish the starting prices weren’t so bloody expensive 👍

With the DNA of original Defender, but the luxuries and technology we have now become accustomed to. This is ultimately going to demonstrate over time that we just cannot manage without a Defender, and like the old one will be iconic in time … just my view, 35 yrs with the brand why would t you want one 😉😎🙌🏼

I have the same a 110 commercial , I ordered a grenadier but canceled it as HMRC didn’t accept it as a commercial even though DVLA did , anyway on that proviso I ordered the 110 which I absolutely love , so much so I bought 3 for my business , however now ineos have sorted out the legal stuff HMRC now allow the grenadier to be vat reclaimable it may take away sales from Land Rover . That said the 110 is amazing and I love it , best van by a country mile 🥇

Oh, that’s interesting on the commercial Grenadier registration/recognition front. Glad the Defenders have worked out well for you! I need a proper drive of the Ineos to see how it compares. - John

I seriously doubt the grenadier will take sales from LR as it’s way over priced. Why pay Defender money for something that doesn’t drive half as well? The dealers have most of the demonstrators sitting unsold.

@@hughmarcus1 yes I do want to test drive one just so I can compare , I can’t see the defender being beaten but that said they would of got a sale from me if they had sorted out there commercial variant tax status before advertising it as commercial , if I’m honest, it’s the look of it that make me like it. I’ve no idea what it would be like to drive, but will get round to it one day ,

Defender 130 or the BMW X7? i'm leaning toward the 7.....

@@danb3980 very different cars in terms of driving experience. I personally love the new defender (I have one!) but, I think I’ll be changing to something more luxurious next, so I’d opt for the X7. Good luck! - John 😎

Thanks for the feedback. Incredibly high quality videos you put out. I’m leaning the same way. I bought an off-road before and took it off-road zero times in three years lol. I tend to agree that the X7 is the way to go.

As one of the original complainants I'd like to take issue with your " Love No 1: Posh". This is precisely why this vehicle has failed. The classic Defender was/is classless. Unfortunately the new one is "posh". This is hardly a thing to love. (I own one of each and I find the new one embarrassing due to its poshness). I suppose the the other nine loves are redeeming features.

Just think how much you’ll love it in 10-15 years time when they’re all a bit ratty and a third of the price! 😉 - John

My classic Defender is 15 years old and could fetch what I paid for it back when it was new. I wonder whether my new one will have that cachet. Candidly I'm happy to exchange cachet for posh because after 15 years of driving with gritted teeth I've earned it.
