❤ I love your approach, especially because is always pointing to the best of the pet and not towards the pocket of those who studied but instead of helping want to empty our pockets 😢. My dog was poisoned with methamphetamine mix with marihuana, by that time thank GOD I gave him activated charcoal every 4, 6, and 8 hours, this in a sequence of 3days, 4days, and 5days, then daily for a week, this with alternated soft blend diet. The Vet ER recommended me to MRI $4,000⁰⁰, only the visit was $900⁰⁰ which I suffered cause they hostage me until I paid, (friends helped 😢 a lot, almost didn't make it, and this without the MRI). Did a GoFundMe and only got $300.⁰⁰ By GOD's grace I continued with the charcoal as mentioned, my dog is lively, loving, and more settled. I can see more white in one of his eyes when he moves them up or side to side. Out of that, or non-related don't know, he developed a small outer cyst. Still the vet wants to do a biopsy which becomes to a vet bill hight than what anyone can imagine. As I mentioned, he is happy, gentle, and more aware of what he takes from people, floors, etc. I'm really proud of you Dr. Jones, for taking time to help us understand what is working and what not, where are the vet tricks and how much is costing our pets' lives and our ❤ and pockets. I'm glad someone can stand up for our pets and the truth. I think sometimes some veterinarians are only thinking on having fame, money and the image of knowledge when they don't really have it. Even more, nowadays, many are looking to have bigger practices where they can have all kinds of specialized services like the ER in MD, but they lack of heartedly services, compassion, empathy and payment plans for those who don't have the means to pay immediately, for reasons of credit, poverty, etc. This has become business 😢 it's not service and commitment for our pets. Yes Xylitol is extracted from birch bark (or occasionally corn). But I’ve never seen it listed as birch sugar so I also found this very interesting!

I never heard of birch sugar until today. But if I ever see it on a product then I will know to be cautious,

Xylitol in chewing gum will kill a dog instantly. Happened to my cousin's friend's dog.

Mine were all buried too! I don't ever rush it though, I had one for 2 more years pain free died of heart failure. Vets get it wrong.

I believe some pain and suffering is okay, as long as there is sufficient pleasure to compensate for it. I put my dog to sleep at the end of November. She had severe arthritis and could barely walk in the end, but despite her pain and mobility issues, I do believe she enjoyed sitting in the park for hours every day in the summer and part of the fall. When the damp and cold winter weather came around and all that she could look forward to was being bored at home and nothing to distract her from the pain, I made the dreaded decision. It's been three months. I still cry about her and miss her every day.

@@sfrwriter I'm so sorry. We have a chuwawa in the neighborhood that comes out in a baby car every day. Fam was like 14 when we moved here, just had a cancer removed from under the spine (why the baby car). 😂That was 4 years ago. That dog is still going. But I get it, sometimes you wonder how she's doing at home. Anyway, I don't think there's a wrong answer, depending on how you look at it. But I'm sure your dog was loved and happy!

@@henrywong1174 Totally. I pushed my dog in a stroller for about three years, but all this time she was still able to walk enough to keep strong muscles. The arthritis gradually progressed and my dog was gradually in more pain. Eventually we reached a point where she could only walk 5-10 minutes per day and she was in great discomfort. She used to be a vocal and chatty dog, but in the end she became very quiet and withdrawn. It broke my heart. I could have kept on pushing her in the stroller. If she was just paralyzed and not in pain, I would have done that. But I knew she was hurting badly, even when at rest. I didn't think it was a good quality of life to not be able to walk and sniff at all. She is dearly missed. Life is not the same without her.

Vets don't want to see my dog since he was 11 years old and hasn't had any vaccines in years. What's the point in giving them to him now? We live out in the literal edge of nowhere and he barely goes anywhere but the fenced yard and down the road with me. I at least found a vet to do a minute look over of him since his back and tail were different (turns out he has degenerative spine and a tumor in his tail) but she wouldn't actually treat him. That's okay, she did suggest some natural supplements which I was already giving him but had backed off on since my other dog, a keeshond, suddenly passed away in her sleep and I was paranoid about giving anything. Over 6 months later and he's still getting around the same and made it pass his 12th birthday. He's a bloodhound rottweiler mix so that's kinda unheard of age for those breeds. I found this vet by asking around other people's experiences since I decided not to go back to the vet who I was seeing since I took my keeshond there explaining the symptoms I had been seeing (headaches, loss of vision, confusion) and they ignored it, looked at her eyes and ears for a second and said she was fine. 4 months later she died with blood running out her ear. Plus the hound mix very seriously threatened to bite that vet last he was there which he has NEVER done that to anyone before. I hope you can find a good vet for your pup and a long quality of life to her! Bless.

Wow, that's awful. My daughters got out 3yr shot up. And now her gums are black in spots. They were pink. So they don't want to listen to me, brush with coconut oil, coll. Silver and the spray, but made another appointment for gum cleaning. Teeth are fine for now. Going to do as you suggested with that spray. Couldn't quite hear what it was called. See what happens in 2 weeks. Much love to you and your fur babies.

He nailed it , I felt the same way.

If the dogs breath is fine, unnecessary. They checked her teeth every visit even when she was a baby. Told me they could do with a clean when she was 3, said back, no way. They are thieves. All meds are usually human, and they charge terrible prices.

@@vivrowe2763 I agree, a big scam. 2 rescue poodles had their teeth cleaned every year by previous owner. They had to have 4 and 10 teeth removed when I got them. What is up with that? I have had them 5 years, now 12 and 16, going strong. ♥️♥️

What does everyone do for heartworm?

@@michellesowders8065 I give one tablet a month which is for her weight, but it's only Ivermectin brought from a pet place, not a Vet. No trust in them anymore.

You might consider adding a little colostrum to the food to boost general health and resistance to illness. It's good for us too :)

I knew one lady years ago who made her dog go through chemo in order to treat cancer. I felt so bad for the dog because he was so sick, and unlike humans, you can't explain to a dog why you are giving them this poison. Personally, I Think humans should probably avoid chemo like the plague as well… Exploring other options. That stuff is nasty poison… It's like carpet bombing your body just to treat one thing. And to do it to a dog is just criminal. If it was me, I would go with looking for natural options to promote quality of life like he said on the video. My previous dog before I got my current one had a massive tumour in her spleen, arthritis all down her back and her tail to the point where she couldn't wag it, and she had dental problems as well as epilepsy. I decided it was time to put her down and it really broke me. But it was for her best. On the other hand… It really pisses me off when people just put an animal down for their own convenience. I remember the vet I had back in Australia and he told me that he would have people come into his practice asking them to put their pet down because they were going to Live overseas and couldn't take their pet. So in that instance, when they insisted on putting their pet down, and their pet was perfectly healthy, the vet would charge them the euthanasia fee and then go on to rehome the pet to a good home.

I was told by friend (which was a veterinarian asst) 35 years ago" you are keeping your dog alive for you" she was right

Honestly, its hard but the right thing to do if the animal is suffering and not going to be able to live with any quality of life. My family has had to take in 3 of 5 dogs and one cat over the past 2-3 years (run of bad luck with genetics-related illnesses and simple old age), and one died suddenly at home. The one that was NOT brought to the vet was my boy, and it was only because we had no idea he even had cancer (spleen cancer doesn't really show or have side effects and its damned hard to find unless screening for it - its most often found as an aside during surgeries - it kills in months if not treated somehow and even if it is the prognosis is at most another 4months-1yr). If I had atleast KNOWN that he had cancer, I would have understood what I was seeing was not and arthritis flare-up, and I would have sadly brought him in too, just to save him from the painful last few hours of his life. (*Few hours because we had home medicine for flare-ups of his arthritis and thought it was just a bad night. Until my mom noticed he wasn't breathing properly, we didn't realize the pain wasn't in his hind-quarters or related to his arthritis at all... and the bleeding internally that killed him was slow enough we didn't see the gums go pale until just before he began to have issues breathing. We were on the phone arranging intake and getting driver of car roused and dressed in a rush to get him to the vet when he left us. Having seen both, I will ALWAYS advocate for having the strength to save your furfamily AND yourself from the trauma of the sudden death at home (which then you have to transport to the emergency vet for the after death stuff). My sister had to make this call with both her first dogs, two twin chihuahuas that passed around 9 and 10 years old respectively. They were her babies, but the genetic lottery was not kind to her or them. Cushing's took the second one this August, a few months after my boy passed in May... and some sort of brain fungus and a whole host of other infections took her sister last year. The first pup to go was the oldest, a rescued ChiWeenie that was my mom's girl, and she passed of old age (began to seize and was taken in to be given her rest from the pain). It's so very hard, but it IS the right thing to do when they can no longer have healthy quality of life, and it's not understood enough by so many that this is PART of having animal companions to care for. They can only be here so long, and then they have to go - and sometimes that time is shorter than we would like. (If anyone actually read all of that, thank you :'D TL;DR - I agree).

@@bakaichigo oh no, spleen cancer. My last dog had that. We didn't know she had anything wrong though because it doesn't show up. But she had this God awful cough, and we wondered when we found the lump on her spleen whether it was pushing on her other organs. The reason I took her in was because I was going to get her put to sleep anyway because she had epilepsy, dental issues, arthritis that was so bad she couldn't wag her tail any more, and that God awful cough I just mentioned. And in her final exam, the vet found a massive lump on her spleen that he could feel. That was when we worked out what was going on. It is so insidious because it doesn't really show any symptoms Of its own. Looking back now, as painful as it was, I know I did the right thing for her when I put her to sleep. It knocked me about so badly, but it was another 10 years before I was able to get another dog. And the strange thing was, I got my Cavalier King Charles Spaniel the day after the 10th anniversary of my late dog's death. My late dog was a corgi. The other odd thing is that my Cavalier King Charles Spaniel's birthday is the day after my corgis birthday was. Really weird.

I had the opposite problem with vets and livers. My first cat went to an diagnosed with a serious liver issue following septicaemia for over two years. They said she had "feline redirected aggression". No testing, nothing. So when diagnostic tests should have been used in order to rule out things like liver disease, they weren't used. They put her on a medication that I later found out was contra indicated for liver issues. Anyway… Long story short… Seeing just about every vet in Hobart where I lived at the time… And being gaslit by more than half of them… I found a holistic vet in Hobart who took one look at my cat and said "She's jaundice." Then, all the testing started. It was long overdue. The other vet had known she had had septicaemia, but finally I had had a vet that took me seriously. Anyway… Long story short… We were able to get her liver back from pretty much the brink… She was dying… Using completely natural and herbal remedies. But the vet was honest with me and said that if her liver did that again she would not survive. He was right. I moved into a house a few years later that unbeknownst to me had rising damp. Mould spores got into her liver and it's played up again and she died. But I had the best relationship with that vet. I moved to New Zealand 10 years ago which is the only reason I no longer see him… The Tasman Sea is between me and him and it makes it a bit hard. Anyway… 10 years down the track I still missed that vet and to this day I have not found a vet that was so good, so honest and so compassionate sense. What it boils down to is there is literally no discernment about when to and when not to use diagnostic tests. They either routinely use them which causes problems in itself, or they don't use them when they should and I quick to reach for the pills. They are as bad as human doctors.

@@milanka882 Yes they are. When they first start in practice they are all about, oh today we don't give that, or we give this. I am all about, I know the breed, know what it is, and I will do it my way. You have to be harsh and with doctors too. They are useless, good ones retired.

This is one of their favorite diagnoses. They won't do anything until you have the dog on meds for a month and they can retest. I am not saying every case is a problem but the dog is usually stressed at the vets and then they take blood and expect " normal" results. They do not seem to look at the whole picture just 1 symptom. Regular doctors too.

Interesting my dog got screened and had high liver enzymes 336 then 159 and now 145 still elevated. She has no other symptoms is not even 2 yet but talking about a ultrasound after the holidays 😢hmm I think I’m going to pass on that. I did read they could go up with stress! How high were your dogs?

@@jeannegeiger4750 it's been quite a while but if I recall correctly it was 800 and came down to about 600. The doctor told me that wasn't always a big deal said he had seen dogs live just fine with close to 10,000 and he was the only real old-timer there. Just to clarify those numbers could be baloney since it was about 12 years ago.

If I stop flea, tick and heart worm what do I use

You can use a tincture of black walnut, wormwood and clove for heartworm and parasites. I'm not sure about the flea and tick. In my area of the country I've found I don't really need anything for my dog who seems to have a strong immune system. I just check him for ticks whenever we've been in the woods and fields. Fleas thrive in humidity. Low humidity kills them if I recall correctly.

Me too...same here. Mosquitoes are bad in Florida. My kid is an inside dog so I avoid Spring/Summer walks at dusk or at dawn when they are most active....that helps.😊

I only use heartworm, it's Ivermectin only. No flea or tick medication, worm once every three months, tablet only. Stopped all vaccines.

This is what I do and my dogs don’t have any issues with fleas or ticks - I feed fresh chopped garlic with the meals; feed food grade diatomaceous mixed in the food. Cedarcide spray is great.

I'm so glad we don't get heartworm in New Zealand. 🇳🇿 as for fleas? Well, I found a natural powder that is made by a New Zealand based company with all natural ingredients. It works really well on our cat. But for some reason, my dog is an absolute flea magnet and nothing I tried naturally would keep them away. She is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, and she ended up with a massively infestation. Also, she can't have the topical flea treatments as they give her skin problems and she's got dodgy skin… Like me. In the end, we had to give her an oral flea treatment to get rid of it. I would love to be able to not give her the next dose come February, but I'm not holding my breath. That flea infestation was horrible. She just wouldn't stop scratching and I got flea dirt for Africa out of her when I ran the flea comb through her. We could see fleas all over her. And nothing we tried that was natural worked. I so hope and pray that one day, I will be able to use and control fleas on her naturally. I really don't like over using these fleet prevention treatment.

@@jeannegeiger4750 I've never been told or heard not to give garlic - onions and onion powder are always a no from every vet and dog professional I ever spoke with, but garlic was never discouraged. It's actually in a number of the advices to use garlic powder (in moderation) to increase the smell of food if doggo is being picky about food. It's also in a lot of natural dog treats. Not sure if there's any healthy benefits for dogs to eat garlic, but I don't believe its harmful. Our dogs don't get gassy or have any issues eating things with garlic, so long as the garlic is either dusted on moderately or fresh (cooked or oily garlic can cause issues due to the oils or seasonings in cooking, so we don't feed it if its in our food).

There is a dog flu. Our 3 dachshunds had it December 2022. It is very contagious among dogs. Thankfully, they did recover.

Your story sounds like mine. So many vets really screwed up my first cats liver. Luckily I found a holistic vet that helped her. When I lived in Hobart I had the best vet I have ever had. I moved to New Zealand to 10 years ago and that's the only reason I don't see him any more. If I was still living in Tasmania I would see him and still be seeing him. Since moving to New Zealand, I have yet to find a vet that I could trust and that is holistic like that vet was. He was also very highly trained. He even did acupuncture on animals. Did miracles with those needles you wouldn't believe.
