I swapped my 10 year Hotpoint 50/50 frost free fridge freezer for a Bosch 50/50 frost free series 2 fridge freezer a couple of years ago, slightly larger than the Hotpoint but holds far more than that did [same width , slightly deeper and taller] very quiet in operation and well made. I have been using frost free fridge freezers since 1994, would never go back to one that needs defrosting
The frost free fridge freezers with the slim insulation are very sensitive to how tight a space you put them in. They dissipate the heat through the sides of the unit, so need a decent air gap around them. Without this and all sorts of problems start occurring, as I found out recently.
.........yeh one mistake I did make having a drink dispenser or water tap on front, never use it an it takes up half the door space on the inside so you can't put milk cartons or Orange Juice in the door, only a couple of pockets. Also the water goes off/ mouldy even if unused
I love watching your videos. They are so informative. Although I'm in the US, it's interesting to see how it's done in the UK. I really liked the video on the washer/dryer combo. Those are so rare here. Keep up the great work!
P.S. side note- I wish I had not bought stainless steel appliances. The streaking and fingerprints are a nightmare to deal with. Always have to wipe with a microfiber towel. I so wish that I had gone with white instead of SS.
A US viewer here preparing (putting on the Watch List) to avail myself of more of your excellent advice. Just have to say our US refrigerators must seem almost obscenely decadent to the British. 🤣 Oh, not almost? 😏
Yes this comment is being left on as many videos as I can. As I write this I have ice chests full of food because our LG refrigerator compressor is out. LG knows about it and there are settled class action lawsuits against them. Bought in 2018. I had an LG dishwasher that I had to replace, also bought in 2018. It cost me thousands of dollars to bring this information to you. DO NOT BUY LG APPLIANCES. You are welcome.
1. Avoid anything made in China. (Common sense) 2. Avoid anything made in the US. (Important) 3. Avoid anything made in the US.(very important) 4. Buy a quality product made in Germany like Siemens. 5. Enjoy it for more than 15 years without any problems. My Siemens refrigerator and washing machine lasted for 20 years without any problems and without any maintenance.
hi muzzy.. beko hotpoint indesit whirlpool all have handled drawers.. a lot do now but those have and are available replacement spares options is a bonus.. some imports also have but once broken cannot be sourced to replace
Never buy a hiSense f/freezer. They're the worst on the market. I had one that stopped the day after the warranty ran out. Replaced it with an LG which is, IMO, the best on the market
I have recently had to replace my washing machine, tumble dryer, cooker and hob….. i wish i had found your Chanel before hand to help on my decision making. However i do need to replace my fridge freezer and your tips have been helpful, thank you . I like your keep it simple, down to earth style of giving info without confusing the issues
I'm in the market for a ff but loathe to buy one as I've heard they don't last that long. The one I have now looks terrible but 20+ years old and still working no issues any makes to avoid .👍
avoid anything from argos i.e bush swan elecriq etc..a lot of these appliances habe zero spares back up especialy electriq...the one you have will most likely be repairable and could also have doors and furniture replaced...
@@beanbaka ok well bosch isnt so bad to be fair you should be ok ... the cheaper brands are a nightmare to get spares for and i have had to write them off for simple faults...keep paperwork and good luck
@@flybyairplane3528 hi finding a genuine bosch product us hard nowadays even the washing machines are built so badly and have a bearing and spider problem with a sealed tub..customers ask me what do i recommend nowadays to replace and i simply say it makes no difference its all built as cheap as possible...and heres something that will surprise most... the least amount of calls on any product i get to repair is beko lol they are building for so many companys too, yet were the worse on the market.. last ten years they have a good record on my books except fridge freezers blowing the internal evaporator to fridge..how times change..
I have worked as a soundguy most of my life, therefore I like decent noise levels at home. Just have got an experience with NoFrost 40dB fridge, that it is very noisy. Instead of tractor-like noises, familiar from old fridges, these have added ventilation-engines that create whinning noises, which sound like a jet-plane taking off every time it starts. It is very annoying to have that kind of noise floor at home. It doesn´t exceed 40dB of course but the character of the noise is very different. We try now to find silent-like fridge, but I assume that 32dB is not the key-point of silence, but to find a fridge that doesn´t have all these new whistles. Liebherr announces very good noise floor at 32dB as they have put extra effort in combining the technical details of the equipment. Let´s see :)
great video! are there downsides of getting a more efficient fridge (apart from the cost)? There is an Class A samsung for sale (only 108 kWh yearly!), but I wonder how is this efficiency achieved. Is it just plain more efficient heat pump and insulation, or it also becomes weaker (slower to cool initially\after opening the door) and assumes efficiency gains from stuff like open door alarms?
Great video, I agree with other comments that noise levels with energy efficiency of fridge freezers are becoming more important as energy prices have increased dramatically over the last few years.
We downsized, our small flat has a lounge / kitchen so the noise factor has suddenly become hugely important to us,we were given a fridge freezer that is silent and it's wonderful,we have been searching for a taller one as we need more freezer space unfortunately the one we have they dont do a taller model, so off we go on the search for a new one, we didn't realise the symbol on the energy card you held up has the noise of the freezer on the bottom, why did you gloss over that? It's become the most important factor to us now, when I mentioned it to one salesman in our local shop he said they didn't make our make/model anymore because the noise put people off? I told him it's silent I think he was just looking for a quick sale ,so do you're homework folks before you go looking for a new one half the time the salesmen haven't a clue what they are selling, sorry but true .😗
hi.. the bottom drawer depth is not to do with frost free in any way... it is shallower due to compressor placement at rear of unit... the slight difference in drawer size would be the rest of the drawers being shallower by appox 15 to 25 mm to allow for evaporator and fan to the inner of backwall freezer,,, the conventional drawers slightly deeper as the evaporator is usually the shelves themselves.. hope this helps...
I guess what I would like to know is whether it's possible to replace freezer dawers if they are broken. Can you easily buy a replacement and is that for a reasonable price? And also I would like to know if other customers consider the brand to be reliable. But you have a good list. I really like all your video's.
You can normally replace the drawers quite easily, the manufacturers will normally have them available to buy. Brands do vary, but even some of the cheap brands like Beko are pretty good now.
Thank you this video was very informative as I would like to purchase my first fridge freezer and I wasn't even aware of all the thinks we need to look out for when buying a fridge Thank you!
Yeh i got a Frost free FF and after 5 years the fridge freezes up, so it's now a really cold fridge an can ice things up over a short time especially fizzy drinks, funny enough though the Freezer is ok and rarely gets iced up, only the fridge part does instead. LOL
@lords-electrical just moved to UK but I'd like to get the below you used here can you please send me a link of exact Beko yoi used here so I can go get mine ❤..... Thanks for the video
An important issue for me is noise. I live in a flat with combined lounge and kitchen and a major factor is whether the appliance will buzz a lot. The one I have is a Miehle with. Box type freezer on top, which is quiet but now getting older, would love to know which one to choose.
pamela as you have a miele freezer top fridge freezer is the freezer frost free? if so i know you dont have to defrost but if its many years old you may find its the fan making the noise not the compressor and a simple defrost may quieten it.. if not it may require a new fan... miele compressors were pretty good and rarely noisy..worth checking before replacing...
When shopping yesterday I noticed some places sell little mats to place under the fridges to absorb noise or vibration but I’ve no idea if they work or not
I have a logik fridge/freezer nearly 6 yrs old the problem is it full of ice on the back of the fridge and the lettuce and yogurts freeze I've tried setting it up and down still freezes not sure what the problem is?
draw? you mean drawers? also humidity drawer is adjustable for airflow,, a salad drawer is not adjustable and remains closed.. although he did not explain this difference there is a difference
