Baker City is located in Oregon, United States. The city was named after Edward D. Baker, who was the only U.S Senator killed in military combat. It is a city full of tourist spots, and you will enjoy its culture. The town was known as a gold boom town but now is a beautiful city steeped in history, delicious food and friendly people. My wife and I had wanted to see where the Oregon Trail ended so we looked it up. We decided to drive from our town on the Olympic Peninsula of Washington down to Baker City. Quite a drive for us old folks but so well worth the time. While there we went through the museum, ate a few lunches at the park next to the Powder River and thought the large white gazebo in the park was charming. The downtown area was well laid out and easy to navigate. My wife’s a quilter and found a fabric shop. The people we interacted with were so kind and interesting to visit with. It was a clean, orderly place that was so worth the drive. We also went to the Oregon Trail Museum. The place is immense! What a pleasant experience. The dioramas and displays were quite informative and well done. We’ve reflected on our trip there (3 years ago) and say we would go back again.

I grew up there. My great-grandfather was a blacksmith on the Sumpter Valley Railway. My grandfather was an electrican at the Lime cement plant and later the Bates mill. My father was the City Recorder.

Also visit Anthony Lakes ski resort (summer or winter) a beautiful 45 minute drive from Baker. On your drive back stop at the Haines Steak House in Haines, Or for the best Porterhouse or Prime Rib and "chuck wagon" salad bar in all Eastern Oregon.

I lived near the Eltrym! Also, I recommend The Sycamore Tree. Geiser Grand is popular. The Heritage Museum is amazing. I also recommend the public library. They’re so friendly! Barley Browns (the actual restaurant, not the Pub) has amazing food! I do recommend learning the Chinese history! Have a great time in Oregon!

When ??? Mrs Munn was my first grade teacher. Mrs guffey my second grade teacher. Mrs Thomas my third grade teacher. Mrs maiden was my fourth grade teacher. I believe it was Mr Smith was my fifth grade teacher. The first two was in the old brick building that stood to stories high. Third grade was in the Old South Baker two-story building. They had built a new building over in South Baker. 4th and 5th in the new building at Brooklyn. I lived on Washington Street a block-and-a-half from the building.

The theater was named after his wife what a funny name. There were three theaters in Baker when I first moved there into town. The Baker theater and the Eltrym. The other must have closed down in the early fifties.

@@colinmccann7123 wait there was fifth grade there? I moved before I got to fourth grade, but I know that there wasn't a fifth grade in the two years I went there.

The museum used to be a swimming pool. Then the city used it for their cars and stuff.
