Johnny is like the voice of GenX talking to Millennials. "In my day, if you wanted to insult someone, you had to do it to their face! There was honor in it!"
Hell yeah! I binged watched it 4 times already! They really did it right and respectfully! Hope they dont mess up season 2! Really would love to see Johnny and Daniel join together and have Migel and Sam together all part of miagido karate. I see Jhonnys son Robby teaming up with Krease and Barns.....to still get back at his dad!
I liked how you stated that Cobra Kai used an agressive form of Karate. "First Rule. Karate only for defense." -Mr. Miyagi RIP Pat. You were like a father figure to me too and you will be missed.
So now then they had to get him a body bag,, lol.. Sorry I just had too,, I mean come on it would of been rude not to when handed such a loaded comment..
Fun fact: Toshiro Mifune, the famous Japanese actor known for his role as the samurai, Yojimbo, was offered the part of Mr. Miyagi, but he came across as too stoic and rigid during his readings. Pat Morita not only came with a more peaceful demeanor, but was able to pull off Miyagi's natural sense of humor as well.
As a 13 year old girl ,The Karate Kid was the movie I rewound and rewatched repeatedly. I had all three main movie posters on my wall. I carried a pic of Ralph in my school bag and kissed it for luck. For me, it was KK two that stole my heart. The little girl getting rescued from the bell tower was epic and the beautiful dance scene was breathtaking. Long Live The Karate Kid and RIP our beloved Pat Morita Fun fact: Ralph’s irl son is named Daniel. As a tribute to Pat. Banzaiiii!
When I was a kid my cousin James and I watched this on a VHS loop as well. I had Karate kid pajamas that looked like Daniel's Karate outfit complete with headband and would wear it outside pretending to protect the neighborhood from random neighborhood thugs.
@UserLMH you grew up right then, i used to do the same thing on the weekends when i had to go to grandma's house all day long. Best 6 hours ever in the 90's Karate kid 1-3 to get threw a long boring day..
@@lauranajeracortazar2610 he would be around 27 or 28 years old during film and the time it came out. And he wad not 24 in the 1st one he couldnt been older than 23 as ralph maccio was born in 1961
Pat Morita and Kurtwood Smith are great examples on why actors should be cast on ability and not only type cast by the role they played in previous films. Both actors roles in TKK and Robocop are iconic to this day and I can't imagine anyone else playing their roles, especially Kurtwood as Clarence Boddicker.
This was 1 of the movies that shaped my childhood, along with The Last Dragon & so many others. The music was also incredible during this decade: " . . . I am the man, who will fight for your honor . . . #GrewUpInTheEighties ❤❤
The Pat Morita story is even more amazing because he was SPECIFICALLY targeted for not getting the part. He was interviewed by another channel (Emmy tv legends?) where he retells the story. Morita tells stories extremely well and does awesome impressions. Hearing him speak in his actual voice, however, is the best! I highly recommend searching out Pat Morita interviews!
One fact about "get him a body bag" he did not mention: It was never uttered during filming. After the film's production, and editing was complete, the Director Avildsen needed soundbites to fill time. In comes Rob Garrison (in a sound studio booth), and out came the iconic line. Avildsen told him fans may forget his character, but will remember that (iconic) line forever. He was right. May they both R.I.P. 💖
@ I agree. I try to give the boy some credit but he falls in the shadow of his father. I think his father is pretty entertaining but every time I see his son don't give him the credit that he deserves because he's in that shadow.
Karate Kid III would have been so much better if Daniel and Johnny became friends after the events of 1 and they both teamed up to defeat Johnny's former sensei.
20:1 says that this is exactly what will happen in Season 2 or 3. Johnny and Daniel will team up and destroy Kreese and Barnes. Though I expect to see a full on Romeo and Juliet story between Daniel's daughter and Johnny's son. That's all but guaranteed to happen. I'll even go so far as to say that she will have to face Miguel in next year's tournament, defeat him, and then go on to face er own secret boyfriend in Johnny's kid.
did you know that Ralph Macchio was 21yrs old in 1984 no wonder he still looks so young! Love the new Cobra Kai season 2, you can't get enough of it, I need season 3 now!
I watched this movie over and over again when I was a kid. Used to get so excited and tingly when he did that crane kick lol. It’s funny this video popped up on my front page, because I just sold The Karate Kid NES game this weekend at a garage sale.
Best sequel-to-series EVER... and like 34 years in the making! With returning cast members! I got RU-vid Red just for it, and now I'm happy with Red in general. Well played RU-vid....
They've called it youtube premium in the UK and maybe Europe as a whole? But it's been about a year since I heard about Red, maybe they're gonna call it different things in other countries.
I highly recommend checking out 'Cobra Kai' if you haven't yet, they genuinely put effort into the series and made it something great, the characters from the films genuinely seem like themselves on the show. Great video btw, awesome content as always!
It baffles me that no one seems to point out that the Jackie Chan/Jayden Smith reboot of the movie was entirely wrong. Chan's character taught the boy Kung Fu, not Karate. Kung Fu is from China and Karate, of course, is Okinawan/Japanese. If they'd wanted to stay true to the original, they'd have had the child be taught Karate again, like in the original. Or at least name the film the correct "Kung Fu Kid".
Oklahoma Hoss When the movie was presented to the Chinese government for approval to show in their theaters, the Chinese officials demanded the name be changed for that same reason. I agree with you 100% as calling the movie Karate Kid was being disrespectful to both martial arts systems. This was pointed out to the movie makers, but they only thumbed their noses.
It also doesn't hurt when your father is a Hollywood A-lister (Smith) and he wants the most popular A list Asian actor (Chan) around to star opposite his kid as a vehicle to jump start his career at 10 yrs old lol 🙄😒
I totally agree, I couldn't get pass that. I mean it wasn't an overly bad movie, maybe if they gave it a different name and made it a stand alone movie instead of a reboot
Here we are 6 years later from when you made this video and Cobra Kai has become a total blockbuster series that is so good, that it rivals the original movie, and has totally introduced that universe to a whole new audience... it's really very impressive if you ask me...
Also, one of Johnny's buddy's in the Cobra Kai gang was played by Steve McQueen's son, Chad McQueen ( he wanted to fight Daniel in the tournament locker room ).
One of my all time fav movies, still gives me goosebumps everytime I watch the crane kick at the end of the 3rd act, awesome movie, sensational soundtrack, great acting from Daniel, William and specially by Pat Morita (RIP Sensei). And now I'm a 46 years old man and I get to go back in time with the awesome and brilliant Cobra Kai series, thanks to all people involved in this Masterpiece of TV show, can't wait for the second season...
One thing I really like about the Chan-Smith remake is that it exists in the universe as the original films, but as a film! According to the creators of "Cobra Kai" anyway.
When I was in the Marines back in the mid 1990's, I got to meet one of the roll models for the Mr. Miyagi character. His name was Fuse Kise and he was still giving lessons on the base I was stationed on in Okinawa, Japan. I still kick myself to this day because I din't take lessons from him. That would have been awesome. Also, the scene where he catches flies with chopsticks was also done in Samurai 2 by Toshiro Mifune's character Myamoto Musashi.
I don't know why but it really grates on me that, that movie with Jackie Chan is called Karate Kid when Jackie is actually teaching him Kung Fu not Karate. It should've been the Kung Fu Kid not Karate Kid.
They named it that probably for the name recognition, and it did great at the box office. you probably should try not to get too hung up on it. Also, the term kung fu literally means doing well at anything, not just a martial art. Jackie knows several
Daniel was the true bully. The Cobra Kai kids took their revenge too far, but Daniel was the instigator each time. (Still love the movies as they are, though) 🥰 I’ve been resisting watching the new series, knowing I’ll feel tempted to totally binge it, but I’m sure one of these days I’ll go for it. 😂
With Cobra Kai season 2, it's confirmed the blueberry pie scene still happened, despite being cut from the final movie. It's referenced by Daniel and Johnny during an episode where they start to become friends. Before the shit hits the fan and puts them at odds again.
After all these comments and this vid. I'd figure actually give the show a watch since I enjoyed the shit outta the movies themselves. Great vid 👍 Subbed
My brother broke his leg as a kid and watched this back to back for weeks . He knows every word and nearly every move . Funny as fuck when he busts the old moves out half pissed at 46 😂
Charlie Sheen probably would have killed it in this role. People tend to assume that the actors who turned it down would never have done well, in this case I think Ralph obviously won the audience's heart but Charlie Sheen could have been a great angsty and rebellious Daniel (Weber).
not a single mention about how the 2010 remake doesn't actually feature any fucking karate. Or how Jackie Chan could live with himself having starred in a movie with Karate in the title. Disappointed.
Wow. I was thinking of giving it a watch because I've heard okay things about it and realize it's no where near as bad as something like Ghostbusters 2016, but now I don't know if I care enough to see it after what you just said.
*"I guess time will tell how this one turns out?"* ...referring to the new critically acclaimed Cobra Kai TV show. Yeah right, as if you haven't already watched it when it came out 2 weeks ago! You already know it's great...Hence you making this new video about The Karate Kid.
This movie and bullies are why I got into self defense training… now I have created an entire self defense system merging 3 different martial arts, and I teach it 7 times a week! Thanks to this movie for giving me a love of martial arts, and a way to become empowered, and how to train hard in order to overcome.
Just saw the two first seasons of Cobra Kai. It's really solid. It has a lot of the same feel, but is very much it's own thing still. Telling two grown men, that can't let go of the past.
Larry B. Fine He doesn't "just Google" the information. He paints a narrative that includes humor and personal anecdotes, along with some nice editing that is a far cry from channels that are all about the cash grab. I'm always entertained and have a good laugh.
Larry B. Fine A third grader could get 86K subs, script, edit, and produce content that entertains thousands of viewers per video...really? What I think the real issue you have is that he puts ads on his videos; why shouldn't he get paid for his efforts? You don't like him, great don't watch. You are in the minority. I'm assuming you produce original content without ads? Oh, you don't produce any videos...
Larry B. Fine Trolls are all the same: hide behind an avatar, say things they are too afraid to say in face to face interactions, and show absolutely zero initiative themselves. Trolls are critical, yet don't have the stones to put themselves out there for others to critique. And yes, I'm a big fan of positive and creative people, not nihilists who are afraid of the real world.
