10 Times America Ruined Anime 

On the bright side, the 4Kids dub is what got a bunch of people into One Piece, including myself.

Every anime fan knows that Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind is #1. In 1985 Harvey Weinstein cut it to pieces, removed more than half an hour and changed the name to WARRIORS OF THE WIND! Hayao Miyazaki is still angry to this day.

4kids turned One Piece into a stereotype of a pirate show with bad puns. Only the Zolo/zoro character gave a decent voice acting. Also taking away the guns. I guess 4kids never saw Batman the Animated Series that had guns or that kids saw Pirates of the Caribbean which came the year before.

They did same thing with robotich but with 3 different shows with similar art styles

In regards to Neon Genesis Evangelion's moon ending theme, that one wasn't entirely Netflix's fault. They ran into apparent legal issues with that.

Cardcaptor Sakura actually suffered a double butcher, if I understand right. Nelvana, the Canadian company that brought it over, actually did the entire series from start to finish, but with an awful dub that deliberately did everything it could to make Sakura more of a strong, independent female (seriously, there's no better way to describe it, despite it happening before that was a thing), devoid of any kind of vulnerability or hesitation, and also tried to erase as much romance as possible, especially any kind of romance that wasn't straight as a ruler. Then WB got it and tried to scrub what personality and romance was left to make it more "kid-friendly" while also cutting things up and rearranging things to make Syaoran into an equal MC rather than a major supporter. Didn't stop me from easily picking up on his love for Sakura, or on Touya's love for Yukito (or Sakura's for Yukito early on).

The good thing is after the CardCaptor fiasco, any anime that was going to be dubbed by a Canadian company, where not edited, the downside was the anime was shown late at night, like Ghost in the Shell, InuYasha and Death Note.

What about when 4Kids had everyone sing the US anthem?

Here's one. Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V. They turned the Noble Samurai character into a generic Texan trope and the main villain sounds like a goblin.

One of the very few good things Cardcaptors did was tone down the teacher-student romance.

There's actually a more faithful dub for Ghost Stories from Animax. However, it suffered from the same problem as the original Japanese version in regards to being boring. There's also the added non-Japanese bonus for lower quality audio. It also mostly remains lost.

Well, you do have to give it to Zoro's 4Kids voice actor for doing the best with what he was given.

Considering Duel Masters has been mostly forgotten in North America, I'm not sure how well a more direct dub would've fared back in the day. In regards to a re-dub; I don't know what'd be the right approach for the next company to go with. You guys even admitted there are actual funny moments. The least I'd like to see majorly improved voice work and some of the less successful jokes to be chopped out.

Discotek plans on releasing the first three Digimon OVAs. There will even be a new dub for those interested.

Should instead just have called it "The 4Kids dub - ALL OF THEM". One Piece might be the best known, but there have been plenty others, and they're no less butchered. I particularly remember Groove Adventure Rave, or Rave Master over here. Heck, right at the start it has the girl at a casino, some sort of accident causes her to lose and so she goes on a rampage. They made it into an arcade or something and had her rampage because she didn't win the doll she wanted. And that's just the tip of a very large iceberg.

There's also the fact that 4Trash...err...4Kids ruined most of (if not all of) Yu-Gi-Oh! with their dub.

Where is Robotech? This was another frankenstein's monster adaptation that was so disrespectful to the original SDF Macross

Wait. Why didn’t you use the actual cardcapters dub instead of the redub. It kind of misses the point of the complaint when you do that.
