*STOP defending people when they say such things like sexist, racist and xenophobic comments, I'm not referring them as "idols", I'm referring them as people who need to be educated and corrected, not simply being forgiven by another closed minded people who blindly idolatry them.*
exactly. Some stans say, "Oh, they're humans, too!" only when someone fairly criticizes them. Humans need to be criticized. Whether it's self criticism or criticism. Why do these fans only bring it up when they're idols are called out?
Yes. You're 100% correct. Unfortunately, kpop attracts obsessive, delusional fans who see them as "gods", and not human beings who need correction and direction. There's responsibility that comes with being an "idol". You don't get a pass, just because you don't know anything about life outside of your bubble.
I was really upset with Super junior Shindong's comment about losing weight. I'm a girl and I'm not the skinny type, my body is average but what I could not understand was, why does sex matter in terms of how a person represents themselves?
I get that it was a while ago and that he's likely changed but I cringed reading CAP's comments. That's not how you raise kids. I hope someone set him straight.
Whatever yes, I'm not saying they are not human and make mistakes, but they get off too easy SOMETIMES, sometimes being the key word, cause if I were to say something, I would get bullied a ton XD
I had goosebumps when I got to that Teen Top part. that is really disturbing. how can he say that? doesn't he have a Mother or sister? And to think that there are girls who actually defend these types of Sexist comments just because they are "idols" leave women like me disappointed. These idols should be setting examples.
MinecraftTransgenderyoutube feminist The issue is, he’s a celebrity. A KOREAN celebrity, whereas in America, there is a possibility that it’ll be perceived as a joke, a lot of Koreans are rather close minded, he sets a poor example as an influencer.
A lot of these bother me a lot (Like CAP and Shindong) but also no one's talking about Aron. Like damn boy you're literally telling girls their purpose is to exist as an object the male Gaze and that beyond that they're useless and annoying. "you're hot, you're pretty, you're nice to look at but damn you open your mouth and..." Not okay.
OLDsilverstarkittyaccount but he should've know better or made a joke out of it like "I tell myself that everyday" or something. Instead he said "I'm a boy and you're a girl" saying men can be fat and women can't. That's kinda sexist don't you think?
I agree. The words that come off from a person's mouth is a revelation of his/her way of thinking or mentality. I'm sick of people excusing shitty acts like this, "He is an idol, he is flawed and a human being too." Bishhh I'm as ordinary as can be but I don't talk shit to any gender like what he just did. And by saying that, didn't he realize that any girl would get offended by saying that girls are nice things to look at, ONLY if they shut their mouths and keep their opinions to themselves. THIS IS YEARS OLD BUT THIS IS WRONG.
Aron's comment idk I laughed cause in some ways it's true. BTW I'm a queer girl in a relationship with a girls AND most of my friends are girls. btw he's didn't say "... but damn you open your mouth and.." HE SAID "..but like you guys like to gossip a lot" Which is true of most girls
He got hate over it for years and is still considered the least popular one in Nu’est (at least the others aren’t sexists) i think he learned by now that what he said wasn’t acceptable. Not even his fans defended him back then when it happened
I still don't understand how is what CL said controversial?? Like I'm not a blackjack nor one of her fans but she wants to inspire people and tell them to feel okay on their own skin. How is that controversial?
ang del she called all Asian girls basic and safe looking and flat out said they want to look this way. She just co-signed on a stereotype about Asian women. Women are beautiful rather they choose a natural look or a more glamorous look. There is nothing wrong with wanting to look natural/basic if that's your preference. She can be a role model to Asian women who want to be more glamorous but no need to insult them. She said nothing wrong it's just how she said it. 🤷🏽♀️
but a lot of Asian girls are basic tho, especially asian girls who come from their mainland and study abroad. They all look the same because their style are so similat etc make up, clothes, and those little gesture they do sometimes. It doesn't mean other races dont do the same its just Americans tend to have an image on what Asian girls usually is ( consediring she did the interview in America)
I hate how she thinks she's the definition of Asian. I once was asked 'how Asian are you, like Asian Asian i.e. from China, Japan or SK or from another country like Nepal'. I was like wtf, I'm from Malaysia which is the melting pot of 3 different Asian cultures.
I was upset with the sexists comments from these idols. Yes you are a man but you should respect other genders too. Like when C.A.P said that if he had a son, he would spoil him and if it's a girl, he would hit her and lock her in the room because it's not safe outside, it's just so unfair. Alongside with Shindong, it doesn't mean that you should lose weight just because you're a woman. If i were to tell a man to get abs just because his gender is a male, You be offended right? Geez it's really upsetting... PS: I'm just stating my opinion.😊
what can you expect from an industry is flashy but ultimately shallow. they will not get past physical differences let alone differences that are more then skin deep. it's not part of their job. what do you really expect?
Really I'm upset by all these Kpop idols' bullshit and getting away with it judt because they are idols and have fans to back them up and make excuses for them
The one that Zico did, I don't get why people were upset by it. Sure, it might not be politically correct to joke around when talking about flood victims, but he wasn't joking about their situation, he was joking about his own situation, only having that much money at the time.
I had goosebumps when I got to that Teen Top part. that is really disturbing. And to think that there are girls who actually defend these types of Sexist comments just because they are "idols" leave women like me disappointed. These idols should be setting examples.
Once you Jimin You cannot Jimout Same here, I was totally disturbed, and yes, it's horrible when girls defend men when they say such sexist comments...the biggest example of internalized misogyny 😷
"it's not even dark" the way you put it makes it look like having a darker skin would be an excuse/ he doesn't deserve to be mocked because his skin is not that dark. no one deserves to be mocked because of their skin color. I know you probably didn't mean to make it look like that, but I'm just letting you know
Forever Baekhyun "for a black girl, she's really pretty", WTAF TAEYEUN. UGH I CANT EVEN SPELL HER NAME RIGHT. IM ASIAN AND THAT IS DISRESPECTFUL. LIKE TF
He knows it 😂 😂 I saw that a lot of people In corea are Closed-minded, and at that time more (about 15 or 16 years ago) Fortunately not so much now. Probably he changed his mind or not (I don't think it's that hard) Nobody knows. And probably the majority of this idols change their minds. Some cases are ancient
@@LadyPrincessDiana why do u refer it as side, aren't we all a family, why do you still create differences between bts and exo, they are friends so we should also be.
@@ealpacaf.7463 see the name she's mentioning is the commenter's name which is of bts members. What do u think she meant with our side now!!I'm just telling her if she's supporting the side thing then she shouldn't , that's it!!
Teen Top obviously had disagreements with CAP and no kidding, he seriously thinks it's ok to spoil your son but in prison and hurt your daughter? Although he said it in such a regular manner I'm only assuming he grew up with that idealism. He was probably spoiled by his father while his mom and possible sisters were tormented... that's so awful, I kind of hope that the other members set it straight with him (although it's old news)
Shy Girl yes, he's been set straight. He has apologized so many times for it. I'm glad you aren't sitting there bashing him, like I see almost every other person in the comments. Preach 👌
Honestly, I could never be a MC/Host/Interviewer/Member because I would go off on these people and would be considered ridiculously rude, especially because of the whole Korean culture hierarchy.
Did he say anything about his comment later on ? Because I really think he should've apologised for it . He was being a total sexist ,and if he actually thinks like that then he is more dangerous than the outside world
yup, kind of, been teaching and interacting with some koreans and they're quite close-minded, i guess it's because of their homogeneous culture...one of my friends who went to korea a couple of times said they're one of the racist here in asia hahaha
jimin's Bae He know ok he is fat..He even admit that he is yoyo model..He didn't say he is thin..He just said he just lost weigh and the weight come increase again, like yoyo..Do you know that Shindong only idol that fat? You don't know the hardship of him being fat..On the variety show, he said sorry multiple times you know..I know this issues and FYI I'm fat..To me, it is not wrong. I understand because he did not want Super Junior's fans (esecially girl) feel the hardship as him.. How do you know???????!!!!!! It is easy people to bash other people without knowing first. Such a lame person.
Eifisyafa S if u don't know the meaning of sarcasm and u sit down there to support your oppa who did something wrong. don't come back here stupid! learn before u talk to me
I know some people make excuses like "they're human like us just leave them alone". But most of these idols are in their twenties they should know better. And instead of brushing the problem aside and forgetting it, how about educating them instead?
ok so for bambam and yugyeom the only reason bambam had said the n word is because of marks snake friends telling him it meant bro and stuff and as for yugyeom in korea there is an age thing with the solar and lunar calendar making him older then what he is in America so say he is 19 in America in korea he is 20-21 because of the two calendars and he didnt know about the whole international age thing and bambam later said sorry for saying the n word and its not his fault he never knew what it meant he was told it meant bro or brother
@@sankeerthanareddy6509 if ur talking about the n word dont use it unless you are black and it was used to downgrade and put down black people when they were slaves and black people turned it around and found a better way to think of it plus it also kind of means brother or sister because the only people that can say it are black so if you arent black please dont say it
I was just about to say that! When people mention his ears he gets annoyed and yet he thinks he can keep on making fun of Kai and not consider that he might also not like it
Gleza Miranda Yes but did it stop the others to tease him?? No juts likeD.Os height etc. they are friends they tease each other. They aren't racist and they proved that many times.
It's a jokeeee. Chanyeol's ears might be a complex for him but I'm pretty sure he knows that the members r joking. As well as jongin. The members said that they think his bronze skin looks sexy so....?
i have no respect for shindong. taeyeon and aron took their honesty in opinion too far. cap disgusted me. honestly, i saw no problems with CL’s comments. zico wasn’t lying, the whole block b team was pretty poor. he was just saying what he could, and it ended up just sounding bad without the intent, which you can tell. LE saying the N word; i don’t know the context so i can’t say anything. bambam was taught the word by friends of another member, and since english isn’t his first language, he would have no knowledge of the offensive meaning of the word unless the friends mentioned it, which they obviously didn’t. it was bad, but not really his fault and he obviously felt sorry for his slip up afterwards. yugyeom is a teenager. he can do what he wants. he was in a safe environment to drink and what teen hasn’t drank before? some of these are really awful and disgusting, but others are perfectly okay.
Special Bitch I totally agree with you.Taeyeon never meant to comment over her colour she actually couldn’t come up with right words. Also most people who understand korean says that the translations were wrong but since TY apologized for it I dont think it was misinterpreted
@@Baranabalankaran taeyeon was clearly being xenophobic while bambam just made a mistake, he didnt even know the meaning of this word and he really felt bad about it and apologized multiple times, as for yugyeom the drinking wasnt even illegal since he isnt a citizen of US and he was in the legal age to drink in korea
As I am first of all bambam did apologize and he was taught that word without knowing what it meant, but Taeyeon said that comment by herself, saying that someone is pretty for a black girl is not something nice. It’s by far racist and disturbing af.
There have been so many scandals about idols using the N word, shouldn't other idols know by now not to use this word? The fact it still happens surprises me
XORIH Right and they always want to use the good ol' "He/She is ignorant! They don't teach that in Korean schools, I wish Americans would quit thinking the world revolves around them and their culture" I'm-..... it has happened so many times that ignorance is no longer an excuse learn from other people's mistakes OR you could use this great thing called the internet where you can RESEARCH things you're not knowledgeable about. Wow, mind blowing!
Jamiezing'sWorld it's not even about knowing about the history of blackface or anything either, it's about using your common sense. Like I'm sure that 99.99% of the many idols and other Korean celebrities that have done blackface would have been offended by someone slanting their eyes or painting themselves yellow to imitate an Asian, they would be offended. So they should have the common sense to not do it to other races!!
XORIH In my opinion, since Korea is not well in English language they don't really understand that. So I think ignorance is stil a factor. I think it's the same way with Americans when they get mad at Korean fans who lash out on their idols just because they went to the club or had some scandals that would be perfectly normal in America. Vice Versa, Koreans have cultures/law that foreigners, especially non-Asians can't understand, in the same way, foreign countries have cultures/law that Koreans can't understand or are ignorant about. BTW, I'm not justifying their actions. I don't even stan any of these people. I believe that using the "N" word is wrong and my mom and dad seriously reprimanded me when I was a kid so I learned my lesson.
Look Its Queen V dont get me wrong. i love got7 but he should still know. he knows people from the states. how hard is it to ask? but then again everyone underage drinks. it was a mistake but he shouldve been mkre careful
To say "let it go, they already apologized" or "just a mistake" is like saying "cover up the sun with one finger." If these close-minded, ignorant, and messed up issues aren't brought up for discussion, these ways of thinking will keep going on. S.Korea has a lot of work to do in terms of acceptance and diversity. These people need to understand beauty comes in ALL shapes and colors. Not just one. That's what makes the world beautiful. Embracing others differences and celebrating them. That's the important step for love and acceptance. Build bridges not walls.
Loyda Perez no one is saying apologies makes everything alright again. It's good that now they learned from their mistakes and haven't repeated any of them. They're learning. Like human beings.
Adeola sometimes that’s true but sometimes it isn’t. Sometimes it’s hard to tell if someone is sincere or not, I think you’re a tad pessimistic or maybe I’m optimistic but unless they are painfully obvious I never judge if they are authentic or not because it would be unfair if you truthfully apologized for your actions but people kept calling you out saying that your apology isn’t real. The best way to guess is if they repeat that action.
Zico's wasn't that bad. He wasn't trying to mock, he was just saying he would like to help but he only had $7 on him. And CL saying a lot of Asian girls are 'basic' is true. It's very common to find Asian girls, particularly east Asia, that tend to be 'safe'. She wasn't being rude.
why did I have to see you everywhere defending the ones that doesn't deserve it? or are you soo damn obsessed with oppas that you defend stupidity like cl's interview? go buy a life first and then come to the internet again
Kpop Monster haha where have you seen me? And bruh I stan more girl groups than boy groups I'm not oppa-obsessed. Also if I were obsessed with oppas then why would that be the reason I defend cl? Seriously Zico didn't do anything?? Also what CL said is true. Asian girls (especially from east Asia) often stick to the status quo and don't want to change because of the security that they feel. She's not lying when she says that
i actually don't see why they shouldn't be offended by CL's comment, like they do have a reason to be. Lol, like using the word 'basic' to describe 'a lot of asian girls' like the fuck CL? It was a breezy response and gave off a holier than tho feeling. She's a fantastic artist, but her style isn't the definition of being a bold person, it felt like she was forcing her brand of music and style to dictate what bold and cool is. Not to mention she's dissing a whole culture and lowkey insulting other artists who don't follow her style. Like, she's a great artist, but she needs to get off her high horse.
I consider myself impartial when kpop idols screw up, but I get mad everytime I see this Zico's controversy. To me, he was just saying how much money he had, not laughing at the victims. It was funny at the moment because it was a low quantity, again, not because of the tragedy. This whole thing was overreacting.
I always thought Zico's comment could be a clap at their company. Being an idol doesn't make you rich and they aren't know for having a lot of money. They wear nice things, but a lot of them are rented or borrowed. I don't think he meant it as "I can only give money and all I have is $7." I FEEL that it was more of a "I am really busy and being overworked AND I only have $7 to my name."
“She is pretty for a black person” is a product of mistranslation. “Heugeen chingoo jungmal numoo yebbojoh” or " 후긴 친구 정말 너무 예븐" (In Korean) is what Taeyeon said, where the rough translation is: “Our black friend is pretty”. Breaking it down it's basically Black person (후긴 [not entirely sure on the exact spelling] 친구 (friend) 정말 (very) 너무 (really/too much) 예븐 (pretty) : "Black person friend very really pretty" (I have this checked with multiple native Korean speakers. More than welcome to confirm it with your own sources). Personally there is none of the suggested racism in the sentence much like the 'more popular' translation that's circulating everywhere like the one mentioned earlier in this comment or in this video. Is she right in even mentioning the race or the physical attribute of the person in question when talking about her beauty? Maybe not. Is what she said not racist at all? Maybe not. How you interpret a sentence is a product of the values, principles, common sense, agendas, etc., of your own. By shedding some light on the translation of what Taeyeon said, I hope people will realize that what is said in this video (and on other platforms such as Kpop news sites or forums) is a translation that is incorrect and seems to be geared to cause a misunderstanding (personal observation based on the mistranslation and sites read). Whether she is right or wrong based on the translation above is open to interpretations.
Taeyeon is always saying and doing racist shit so if this wasnt one of those times it doesnt rlly make a difference and NVM Native Koreans have confirmed that it was not a mistranslation
i don't get why some of you are defending these acts... they're all considerably offensive in their own ways and none of them can be brushed off easily. stop treating idols as if they're damn angels, and start treating them like you would with other people (not saying you should bash them or call them out for things in the past, but, still)
pearly wearly is it okay for people to defend them if other people are saying and judging them wrongly and just saying what the idol is really meaning to say? And i do agree with this
Okay but some of them are genuinely not their faults. Like Bambam only said the n word because black people in America throw that word around loosely and it can often confuse foreigners in America. Along with that, the underage drinking is different in Korea compared to America so Yugyeom shouldn't have been blamed for that in the first place.
hey, not to sound annoying but according to Cali Law if Yugyeom was on private property and under the supervision of parents (marks parents were there) its legal for him to drink Hey guys so i made this comment and didn't even think about written consent, and no one is sure if Yugyeom was provided with that ;/ (so it may still be illegal I take it back & thxs to Michelle for pointing that out)
Simrit M I'm a cali law student and yes that is true but that's only allowed if the adult is legally signed as the underaged individual's guardian. Otherwise it'd still be illegal.
Boi in my country it's legal to drink at an age of 16, why y'all complaining. Each country has it's own laws and not everyone is aware of the laws in other countries
Wow. Chanyeol literally was asking Kai about his TALENT. And he mentioned Kai's skin tone becauss its his remark and make him looks more sexy. Chanyeol is always loves kai and admires kai. He is kai's #1 fan and he loves kai's skin tone. Everymember always tease each other.
Yeah they tease each other in every way like chanyeols ears too .D.o looking like a penguin.. suho's habits ,,soo many..its not because they look down on each other..even kai always said that he has dark skin.
Pagani Zonda Do I smell a troll? And please they copy black culture but deny Black people. To be real Asians are just having a come up for imitating hip hop and r&b culture otherwise they're quite basic. Just saying.
The general public aren't that much better. After the issue with Block B, netizens started a petition for the members to all suicide together. Block B's maknae P.O. shortly after was admitted to the hospital for shock.
CAP's comments are just downright disturbing...and I'd never heard of Aron's controversy...I'm really disappointed in him. It's not the worst thing idols have done, but it's still disappointing to hear him say things like that on broadcast and elaborate on it in full, not just make a fleeting statement spur of the moment. I think it's safe to say NUEST has a primarily female fanbase (or at least did prior to PD101, now it's probably more mixed), so to say those things knowing that is pretty rough...
Rynne But females be saying the same shit tho lol. They be saying " I think boys are better than GIRL'S! And ECT!" It's okay when a female does it bit wjen a male does it... its a NO! Double standards much?
When did I say it was okay for females to do it? When did a female idol say it in this video? I'm sure some have made comments, but they aren't in this video so I don't know about them so how am I having double standards? Sexist comments are never okay period. Idols need to be considerate towards their fans period. Please don't attack my comment by putting words in my mouth and citing "females" without examples I should know about.
seriously all these people defending their oppars and unniers. yesyes all human make mistakes but just because they're celebrities doesn't make them invincible, telling them that it was not okay so they can learn their mistakes and never do them again, makes them have humility more too.
Blank Bar it’s okay to defend them when what they said was taken the wrong way. Chanyeol wasn’t being racist. He was teasing Kai because he is insecure about it and boys do that all the time. He has even said r is jealous of Kai’s skin tone
I dont mean to offend anyone when I say this but, this comment section is toxic. Some people are actually still trying to make really lame excuses for freaking adults. Taeyeon basically insulted a whole race and y'all just gone let that slide. You can't say things like "that's not offensive" if you are not black because it is nothing to do with you. Honestly, I know groups I Stan have said some really stupid crap, but I never make excuses for it. I understand that some idols really dont know what they are saying is offensive, but it doesnt excuse the fact that it is. If it was someone you didn't like, would you care more to call them out on stuff? I'm really asking a serious question.
I'm only listening to their music, don't know much about them but Shindong was my bias. But when I found out about his comment, I also lost a lot of respect
Zicos comment wasn't offensive to me, he joked about the money he could donate, not about the people or the disaster. Cl's comment was honest and respectful, I don't see anything wrong with it. chanyeols comment seemed like a joke to me. If anyone should be mad about it, it would be kai and he didn't seem to take it as an insult. I often joke about my skin colour with friends to, it's just what friends do honestly - if kai doesn't see it as offensive and can joke about his skin colour then it's totally fine. the ones I find disgusting is that guy that said he would hit his daughter . what kind of psycho?? I mean I would have seen it as a joke, if he only said "I would have to lock my daughter at home bc the world is too dangerous" totally fine as a joke, but the way he said it?? That's wrong on so many Levels and then also how he said that he would treat his son so much better? Get some help dude smths wrong in your head. The second one that shocked me was that suju guy saying "only woman need to be in good shape and be skinny" look at yourself before you speak. Also the "she's pretty ... for a black girl" is a rlly unnecessary, stupid comment.
It isn't just the only time, though. He (Chaneyoel) asked Kai whether he wanted to go for skin whitening, made their animated pictures using some animation app and specifically made Kai and Tao darker than the rest. Kris made a drawing of every EXO member and specifically drew Kai and Tao with black marker. D.O had drawn every EXO member's pictures and coloured Kai's picture black. Baekhun revealed that he has saved Kai's name as "Blackie" in hjs contacts. I'm shocked that he can put up with so much (I feel bad, he's my EXO bias). They were just being plain ignorant.
Actually, the scandal involving Got7 was mostly caused by Mark's "friends". These "friends" told Bambam that the N-word actually means "brother" or "friend". Seeing that these friends were Mark's, Bambam immediately believed them. I don't know about the issue with the other girl in the video saying the N-word, but I'm pretty sure it was not used to hurt someone. To those in the comment section saying that context is not important as long as you use the slur word, then please reevaluate. These idols are not like us who can freely surf the internet as we like, these idols have strict schedules that they must follow. And if they were seen using the internet, they use it to interact with fans or anything that involves their career(eg: their company, music, other idols, etc) or maybe also for entertainment(I find it hard to imagine that the slur word would be involved in this but whatever). Anyway, these idols are also humans who, unfortunately, made mistakes in front of camera. I understand that you were upset by their lack of awareness, but in both cases, the two idols already apologized. ALSO! The issue about Yugyeom's underage drinking was really vague. You see, there were no official statement that Yugyeom was drunk. Yugyeom being drunk was only a speculation because of how clumsy(??) Yugyeom looks as he move. There were also no actual footage/evidence of Yugyeom drinking(maybe because he didn't drink). There are some rumors that Mark's friends were also behind this. Not to mention that they were also the ones who uploaded that snapchat of Bambam and Yugyeom. If you're not convinced that Yugyeom didn't drink, I'll have to mention that they were in a party conducted by Mark's parents. I've read somewhere that underage drinking is okay as long as you have supervision/permission from an adult. My english sucks but hey, as long as you understand lol
shindong, aron, and cap's comments are utterly unacceptable the colorism stuff is bad ofc but i kind of understand it bc in asian countries dark skin is seen as lesser than light skin it needs to change but it makes sense that they would say that
Meg Shankar Aron's. Comment wasn't that bad i mean maybe he just hasn't made any good female friends I (I'm a female if that helps with context or smthing) myself prefer to have male friends mainly because a lot of the girls I've met r judgy and rude and gossip, ik there r nice girls but maybe he hasn't met one.
why do dark skin people have to put up with discrimination because of the color of their skin? I am dark skin the skin I was born with and God made me this way and I'm not apologizing o anyone for that. Meg Shaker you should be ashamed for even saying you understand you should be saying "I don't condone this thought process at all". Ihave lived around the world and seen people of different races and found them beautiful and if someone out there thinks my skin color is not acceptable that's their problem and not mine.
just me Africa is a continent, not a country and there are so many different types of ppl in terms of race, ethinicity, religion, etc. So yes, colourism is an issue there too.
yabo776q im saying i understand it because it’s a deeply ingrained aspect of asian culture. to them, it’s not wrong as they’re just copying their parents and mentors. they probably didn’t mean any harm and those comments are made out pure ignorance. it’s wrong. i hate it. it’s complete bullshit. im a dark-skinned asian myself and seeing skin bleaching creams everywhere and having my grandma tell me my skin needs to be fixed, that i shouldn’t go outside or i’ll get dark, is extremely disheartening. i’m not trying to excuse them. im saying this is a topic that needs far more awareness in asia so that ignorant comments like these can end, and unfortunately because the culture isn’t changing overnight, they will continue to make colorist comments unless someone tells them not to. my original comment was worded badly, and i apologize for that.
bts cypher I am not her fan she said the word black, but she didn't said something like she is attractive to be black, but she said that her black friend was attractive.
Apparently it was a mistranslation because the translator didn't exactly like Taeyeon. And what better way to ruin an idol's reputation than mistranslating korean words for international fans to understand? People need to keep in mind there are translators that aren't worth trusting in their translations. At this point, I think it's naive of people to trust translators 100% unless they built up their reputation.
*Sexism, xenophobia, misogyny, racism...South Korea society in a nutshell.* (I know these are worldwide problems, but hearing grown people saying these kind of things so normally and calmly is plain disturbing, and I saw and read enough to know that South Korea have a really closed minded society, they really need to change.)
Tbh what's WORSE than all of these Kpop idols saying racist/sexist/offensive shit, are Kpop fans that try to come up with excuses and explanations for why they said it. "It was such a long time ago and now they're older blah blah blah" and "omg I'm sure they didn't mean it" SHUT UP . you guys need to hear yourself. Saying shit like this is NOT ok. I get that East Asians in general have this sick opinion that light skin and a skinny body always means better, but it needs to stop. Idols should be promoting acceptance instead of making shitty comments like these. Fans are watching and listening to everything these idols say. If they promote body positivity and admit that dark skinned people are beautiful and that girls are smart and beautiful and strong, fans will DEFINITELY believe that.
McDonald she didn't say that, she say that idol should stop say and think that ONLY light skin and skinny body are beautilful. And she's right. Idols should promote difference, beacuse they have international fans.
xAce_4 w // you are right in saying that they should promote the right values since they are of such high influence, that is so true. But it is also good to forgive and let it go regarding people's mistakes cos we are all human. Imagine you said something wrong in the past and someone keeps bringing it up for the next 10 years and putting you down for it, even after u learnt from it and apologised. Bottom line: we are all human and make mistakes. even if we don't make the similar misconceptions these idols show we have our own misconceptions in other ways, *which we should all (including idols) try to change* . of course maybe the situation for idols is slightly diff in that they are more influential
I don't really understand why America continue to say Nigga all the time in their songs as if it was something cool and are furious when people say it then. Stop saying the word and people will stop too. I mean people from abroad are not supposed to know or be interested about everything. People just pick up words. You can't make publicity for something and get mad when people buy the product. If I like a song and can't even sing it what's the point ?
Yeah I'm "black" I guess, and idk why anyone can say the N word. It's insulting, regardless of who says it. If it's bad why in the world do a lot of black ppl say it like it's ok? How are foreigners supposed to know that only some people can say a word? 😟
Yeah, he felt kind of offended that time, because he knows there are many fans who are on the darker side, I think he was worried they'd take Chanyeol's comment the wrong way. He's such a sweetheart.
demi manoban they are friends, they like to tease each other not only Kai but Chanyeol is teased too for his ears and called dumbo, Chanyeol actually likes Kai's color as well as all the other members, in fact Chen said that for him Kai's color was the thing that he liked the most about him and he had been choose twice as the most handsome member by his own EXO members.
I'm so tired of seeing people make excuses for idols saying the n-word. I don't care if they didn't mean it in a harmful way and I don't care if they heard it in an american song so they thought it was fine. There is no way in hell Idols haven't seen other idols catch a shitstorm for saying it in the past - so they should know by now that it is offensive when coming out of the mouth of a non black person! I LOVE Exid and LE just so happens to be one of my favorite members, but she was wrong as fuck saying the n-word and I'm glad she apologized. Also, Taeyeon's backhanded compliment towards Alicia Keys was in fact racist. She basically said "most black girls are ugly but Alicia Keys is one of the few pretty ones" which is utter bullshit. Beyonce, Kelly Rowland, Zendaya, Skai Jackson, Rihanna, Megan Good, Normani from Fifth Harmony, etc are just some of the very FEW examples of gorgeous black celebrities and we're not going to pretend like lighter skinned black women are the only pretty ones. Before you call me a hater, SNSD is my ultimate bias girl group and Taeyeon is my second bias and even I know what she did was shitty. Stop making excuses for Kpop idols anti-black behavior just because they are your fave and YOU PERSONALLY didn't take offense too it
Yeah, people say "oh they don't know the significance! There are many black people in Korea you guyzzzzzz" but you know what? SK is one of the most developed and advanced countries in the world... there's no excuse for them to be racist and ignorant of other people's feelings. I am so damn sick of people defending Koreans when they say racist shit.
Lol I actually i laughed at these comments, zicos comment about having $7 on him was a dry humour but funny,he probably meant he only had 7 on him at the time. Alot of people who didn't like these comments probably weren't fans and these idols are only human.
Nickhun from 2pm actually was offended by this and demanded apology.. he did apologised and shave his head if i was not mistaken.. u can look up if u want.. but laughing on one of the countrie's bigest disaster with that many death toll is very insensitive n immoral.. that 7000won adds to that
But just like u said they are human being.. n can make mistakes.. thats why he still b able to promote in entertainment business.. bcoz people still accept his mistakes.. i dont think it would be the same case if he was to joke around sewol ferry disaster..
We'll I think alot of countries in this world has some kind of disaster. But I a little humour ain't gonna hurt anyone maybe this is what the world needs for a change. Whoever Nickhun is??
Something I've noticed about some Big Bang fans is that they are the first to hop on every other one time offense Kpop idol about being racist yet conveniently get amnesia when big bangs multiple offenses are brought up?. I mean for a group with so many incidents it's crazy how their fans sweep them all under the rug and jump on everyone else. Don't forget. "If it was a black persons van I accidentally got into i probably would have gotten shot"- Big Bang Seungri.
it's always nice to get to know our favorite idols. i like k pop as far as the surface appeal goes. but i would not look to them for values necessarily. i have had a sight bias for g dragon, but honestly don't know anything substantial about him.
The thing that made me upset was Shingdong and Teen Tops words. It was absolutely disgusting on what they thought of.Saying that girls should loss weight , its not important he needs to understand that before saying something he should look at himself.Teen top was none the less how could he have such thoughts for her daughter? I am just stating how I feel if any of there fans feel offended then I apologize
he said that 10 years ago and has changed since then. he apologized twice and showed his appreciation to bigger women on an episode of ‘I Can See Your Voice’
taeyeons comment was the worst that comment is not even something to think about before saying imagine i said "shes pretty for a korean girl" idgaf i wont forgive her for that and dont @ me tryna defend her bcs I made up my mind that was rude and disrespectful
Exactly, how would she feel if a big American celebrity looked at a photo of HER and said, "wow, she's pretty... you know, for an ASIAN." Taeyeon should know better.
kpop fans are so hiprocrit, if someone says " i dont like kpop" they call that person racist, but if its a kpop idol saying shit its ok. (sorry for my bad english )
Ann Luna please don't say "kpop fans" because your comment is not referring to all of us. Not all of us are like that. If a person doesn't like kpop i just say "okay." But if a idol says something racist it is not okay, just like if i heard a non-famous person say it. So please don't say "kpop fans" because it is not all of us.
ShawolCassieInspiritLampArmyBestFriendAroha Wolf I agree with you, but it's a fact that many of the fans make excuses for the idols. It's like okay, what I meant is that a lot of kpop fans do not like western music but those who like it can not dislike kpop and Unfortunately I see many fans talking bad things to these people what is very immature, I see this in most of the fans of kpop it is no use talking about it like its not true, look on the Internet, even in videos that are not about kpop
Ann Luna aaaaaaaah waaaait a second there. i have NEVER heard any kpop fans say "you are racist" to a person, JUST because that person "doesn't like kpop"... to generalize kpop fans like that, makes no sense (to generalize people is wrong no matter what, BUT i do get it sometimes, if there are a bunch of people who act the same way. that is normal, if a certain situation accours more often, we are humans, even if we'd try, we'd generalize others. however! in this case -> no.. there are TOO FEW kpop fans who act like this! as i never witnessed ANYBODY saying these things or something along the lines for no valid reason.) and also: i DON'T think that everything my idols do and say is alright, JUST BECAUSE.... i judge them the SAME way, as i judge myself and the rest of this world.
no she didn't. basic because it's safe? Some people just literally are the way they are. There are tons of introverts and stereotypical asian girls (quiet, "good girl," etc.) because THAT'S JUST THEIR PERSONALITY. Nobody's trying to be "basic because it's safe." It's not even as if it's dangerous or even frowned upon in korea or america for a girl to be loud and outspoken. I respect girls who want to be "bad" and she should respect girls who just want to be laidback and chill. Not everyone wants to twerk and cuss and wear the heaviest eye makeup ever or have cameras shoved in their faces. that's just as basic imo. And personally, I'm sometimes one way and sometimes the other.
My Home is JB's Fishtank yes yes u are right that there r those who are born like that. however there are also girls who are like what CL described. so logically speaking, CL is not wrong as long as there are ppl who she described.
Kai is not even that dark I mean I am Asian too and pretty dark ! The skin tone is what makes Kai even prettier so please don’t white wash or bleach 💜🔥
From what I remember, it was cleared that the person translated wrong and Taeyeon actually said "This black friend is really pretty" not the said phrase..or something like that. I do not know for sure.. I tried searching for the interview or whatever so I can hear her words but I did not find anything :/
Joyce Villar koreans use "friend" to adress other people usually on variety shows but not implying that they are actual friends. they say "this friend" as in "this person" idk iow to explain exactly :)
I wasn't going to comment, because I was looking for someone to actually have the same opinion that I have but I happen to found no one. Im from latinamerica, not from korea, not from america, so believe me when I say this: WE DONT GET EDUCATION ON THE N WORD PEOPLE, the world doesn't revolve around the US (and of course, it doesn't revolve around my country or korea), so it isnt "common sense" to know this, we have differents cultures. Im not expecting you to know that you can't just say "pinochet" around the streets in my country because people might feel triggered, but because I know that you're a foreigner I will forgive you and understand. It's the same for the N word, I happen to know it bc Im from a bilingual school and there they teach you these things, but you don't really take weight to it. So even if there have been lots of scandals regarding kpop idols saying the word, at the moment they probably just forget you know? Because thats prob something they learnt when they were older and it isn't around their mind all the time, contrary to americans who were taught from very little that the n word is a bad word that shouldn't be said unless you're african american.
while i agree to this because im not american myself and only understood why the N word was so offensive until i started living here so that ignorance is inevitable to those whose not from the West, it still doesn't excuse them despite their culture because there has been MANY scandals of idols and comedians who receive a lot of backlash about blackface and saying the N word. It's not expected that they understand the history and why its so offensive, but not saying the word due to the constant controversies that happened to their sunbaes over this word should at least give them the hint to steer clear from it. That's why it's a bit disappointing.
Angela Roberts would you still think that if it was SUCH a common word? black people use it to refer to their pals, how would one even begin to assume it's a bad word without knowing the history behind it.. I was never taught the history behind it either. I only found out why it was considered offensive by living of off the internet.
Furan Shizuka it's not about them using the the n word. It's about the fact that this same exact thing has happen to multiple idols and it's still continues to happen. It's not rocket science to know that "oh well this person used that word and got in trouble. Maybe I shouldn't use it either" it's not "oops I didn't know" at this point it just straight disrespectful and poor judgement. Regardless of where you come from if you don't know what a word means or implies, DONT FUCKING USE IT. Just like I wouldn't go to your country and use...PINOCHET because I literally have no idea what that means so I would have no use for it let alone use it so frivolously.
i'm still shooked that teentop guy said that fucking shit and he's still an idol. If i was the ceo in his agency i would have kicked him out after that.
Nova Moin well there's obviously shit you don't joke about like beating up people, specially your own kids and even more so if you just said you will give everything to your son. That's some sexist shit right there; even if he hadnt said anything about beating his daughter/lock her up, it's clear what a misogynistic/sexist human being he is. tbh i dont feel bad that it still haunts him to this day bc this is the kind of shit you should never say. And if you do, you might as well regret it the rest of your life.
People are bashing this idols because they "didn't think before speaking" but they are doing the same thing by posting rude and somewhat offensive comments
these idols targeted innocent people because of preconceived prejudice. WE are 'hating on them' because they're shitty people. do you even think before commenting shit like this?
@@ReiAnikaAyanami then how about Goo Hara? She's innocent and kind but still got Antis? One of the reason of her depression. Are u sure ppl only targeting shitty ppl?
Exo members teases Kaj as they r close friends. It's not because they have any issue with him or something. Stop misleading people with this kind of video.
And, in Korea and surrounding countries, they want to be pale. In western countries, we want to be tan and joke about being pale... It’s just an cultural difference!
No they are bullying and belittling him for his skin being dark beauty standard or not multiple members bullied him for this and he was never okay with it
Wow, so many hypocrites in the comments. They're like when this Idol says something is ok cuz he/she was so innocent, but if the idol is not someone they stan they quickly say "wow so racist", I mean, if 2 people say the same thing and that thing is racist both of them are racist. Anyway, I think in some cases some fans overreact, remember USA isn't the whole world, so in other countries the culture is different, and we all know Korea doesn't like dark skin tone and for them that's not racist, that's just preference (even if that's not ok). I mean, it looks like Americans even struggle to tell someone's skin color or size, because they might look racist or rude. The funny thing is that in some cases they just don't say "that was racist" they quickly attack with "what a racist bitch, look in the mirror you ugly Asian...", you know racism against racism is not a solution?
From what I've seen the "racist thing" that Taeyeon said has been misranslated. She didn't say "She is pretty for black person" she said "Black friend is very pretty".
O no my potato But if Alicia was white would she have said 'Our white friend is pretty? Or would it have been 'American' or just 'She' is very pretty? You get where I'm going?
there's only 4 ppl in this vid that gets a *PASS* imo. 1) CL bc she was being honest and respectful. 2) Yugyeom bc at least he didn't get behind the wheel like some ppl. 3) Bambam ONLY bc he apologized. 4) LE ONLY bc she apologized. The rest need to reevaluate themselves.
Naiely Muniz it still doesn't sit well with me. natural disasters or other disasters where ppl lives are in danger or taken away should NOT be joked about imo.
Don't you all dare try defending such shameless and problematic actions. Listen, I am a part of the BTS A.R.MY, but I will never deny the racist shit RM said. You shouldn't defend such actions on the behalf of your idols, you need to correct them.
I think a better term for his comments are “colorist.” Army has already confronted Joon years ago about the situation. He hasn’t trashed/ hated on any race. Besides that, it’s obvious he’s grown from that and his actions reflect it.
Bambam said the n word on accident as he's Asian and he had no idea what it meant. And Yugyeom probably wasn't drunk, it was really hot so he could've just been tired. But if he was drunk who cares? Hes an adult he can make his own choice.
I don't find CL offensive at all. In Asia, and no she doesn't mean Asian American girls, she means Asian as in Asian girls raised in Asia, like conforming to standards. Thats not offensive or incorrect. Thats her opinion.
OK, I see a lot of stuff about chanyeol's comment on kai's skin colour. First of, I recall people from exo saying they love his skin colour. Second, he's teasing him. That's just chanyeol, he's that one annoying friend who keeps annoying you, but that's how he shows his love. They tease chanyeol a lot about his ears too, and I don't get why that's different? It's something I just don't understand, skin tone is just apparence which is the same for his ears, yet people say that teasing about his ears isn't bad, but about skin colour is.... I honestly just don't get why, so I'd really like it if someone would like to explain it to me. Also, I'm often teased for my pale skin, I burn really fast... But again, I just see it as teasing, is this different? I honestly just want know why it's so bad
before i didn't know that the N word is offensive. In movies they call their pals with that. It sounded cool as well. not until i was in 2nd year college that someone told me that it is in fact offensive. if you are not black ad you say it. I was really confused and thought she was just bluffing. then i search it in google and it's reasons. I'm aware that a lot of asians doesn't know this that's why i really understand them if they made this mistake.
thank you. there's no need to bash. i was just sharing my experience and you are just stating your opinion. but i was talking not about the numbers of a specific race in country but i was talking about the lack of information. we have to remember, other countries are not as active on sensitivity towards issues like that as america right now. other counties are still somewhat homogeneous.
Starlight, what i meant is your culture in US (well i assume you are from US) is if African american call themselves or other African american a N word, it is okay...... right? but when others say it (not African american) you guys find it offensive. that is why a classmate of mine in college told me that i shouldn't use that word if i'll go to US cause i may offend people. that covers social media and All actually.
thank you too :) i like these kind of conversation. no hate just a simple relaying of thoughts and opinions. for what i have understood, before it was just a simple word.the N word was used originally just to call people with darker complexion. it then turned into a derogatory slur for many years. but i get your point. i assume you believe it is just a word that can be used in a normal way and derogatorily. and you believe people should be offended only if it's used derogatorily. am i right? please feel free to correct me.
