I once heard my step-dad talking about melee. Apparently they mentioned it on ESPN for like 15 minutes and he called me immediately after and asked if I was making money. Obviously not.
THAT WAS THE BIGGEST MIND FUCK EVER, like u think u know a guy lol He's gone to full on reunions n shit?!?!?! With fans long dedicated over a long time???? And all we ever hear from it is like Haha ken was on survivor lol
I literally shat myself when Jeff Probst smirked and said "I guess even the king can get hit huh" when he bonked his head in a blindfolded maze challenge.
Was insane to find out in retrospect Ludwig was the same dude who shared some iconic Melee scene clips that a lot of people might recognize these days (i.e. the MVG Sandstorm power outage, Leff getting hug sneak-attacked, etc...). I remember seeing this stuff online in during my uni years and didn't realize until much later on they were the same person.
Hungrybox is in need of a MAJOR comeback! I got you, son! Mom? hit noises ding Yes! Amazing! A surprise save from Hungrybox’s….mother? Your moves were a little bit off son, you must be hungry. Fuel up on Campbell’s® Chunky® Soup. Thanks Mom. Now, let’s smash this noob!
I was really expecting Slippi coming out with Rollback and every twitch streamer imaginable streaming it for a little while to be on this list, but even then there's some pretty incredible things I had no idea that had ever happened that I got out of this. 10/10 video!
Great vid! There's a couple things that I think also could've been included, mainly Tyler Joseph from Twenty One Pilots. He's interacted with several melee pros on twitter (he mains samus so he talked with Buzzfeed star HugS), tweeted out the Genesis stream (I think it was G4) to a large audience, destroyed an interviewer in melee, and I'm sure even more. I also happen to know his younger brother from melee, Jay's marth is pretty solid! There's also that one Elementary episode where DJ and Moon had brief cameos and the writer being interviewed at STR by Lud and Slime, but it's understandable that this wouldn't be included due to DJ and Moon having allegations of misconduct (kinda bad RNG that those 2 were chosen of all melee pro's). Also, I remember actually watching Survivor Gabon (pronounced Gab-own btw) and when Ken said he played Melee I was like "why doesn't he play Brawl, that's the newer one", then Smash 4 came out and I watched The Doc and understood why. But yeah, crazy to see him on my TV, and he did pretty well thanks in part to Gabon being one of the few seasons where the physically strong players were almost all voted out early. And of course, the #1 spot could not go to a more deserving person. Can't wait for him to go to more tournaments and commentate once rona is over with. Good stuff Allston Melee, keep it up!
Slippi didn't make it 'mainstream'. It gave melee a huge boost, with rollback and also streaming, but this is all within the community, it doesn't directly reach outsiders so I don't think it fits in this list
dude, this channel may not be big nor mainstream enough to be featured on this top 10 list, but goddamn y'all are doing amazing work to keep the community active. I feel like content like this really hypes up melee for people who might otherwise have their interests waning over this downtime period because of the pandemic. Thank you for the good videos and I'll be sure to check out the patreon
I remember watching the Roast of Hugo and Ludwig's set was phenomenal. Went on to watch his ~200 viewer streams thinking "If this guy blows up, he could really bring eyes to the scene". Needless to say exactly that happened, and I don't think anyone could have done a better job at giving back. Sure he's not Mang0, but in terms of having quality widespread brand-safe appeal, he fucking nailed it.
17:33 You technically weren't wrong. That was us under a different name lmao. It definitely was a crazy thing to hear during our GF stream that Ninja was restreaming us at the time skyrocketing our reach.
Been sitting on this idea for a little while Top 10 moments where the set's/games were contested I.E. Maybe Leffen Vs. ChuDat. That, or maybe Top 10 moments when a player smurfed in a tourney. A.K.A. Crush = Kimba at Cold Hard Smash either way, you guys hit another video out of the park. I really enjoyed more of the live action segments, keep up the excellent work!!!
When you have no clue about half the esports hall of fame, but not seeing Flash or JaeDong on there? Bru. At least Moon, Faker and Armada found a cozy spot, and I guess rightfully so.
The first ludwig stream I caught was when he finally beat the elite four in Heartgold or someshit. I thought "eh", I could watch this again. And then I stayed for every following pokemon stream and now I'm a fuckin simp for this man. He said my name twice and now I'm loyal
allson skatepark is so rad, the pump track there is so fun.... im from MA also, cant wait for IRL toruneys to come back. i wanna fuck some shit up!!!!!!!! also..... GO VOTE!
