That’s so weird coz in the uk we’d tell someone if his flies were down, especially if it’s so obvious of a light shirt through dark trousers, even women say it. Normally there’s a phrase “you’re flying low at the moment”
I am my husband’s stylist. I buy all his clothes and I listen to all your videos. I love the shirt Collars company. The ones you recommended ,he gets a lot of compliments on those shirts. I iron all of his things even his jeans.😊 thank you for helping me with these videos….
When seeing someone with their fly open, even a stranger. I politely point it out, softening the blow with it happened to everyone. Everyone has been grateful even if embarrassed. Real Gentlemen look out for each other!
Another thing I do when I’m out, I always try to get to the wash room after eating out, and check to see if I have any food stuck in my mouth. A lot of guys don’t want to get caught checking themselves in the mirror, but your appearance is so important to get right. And having dirt in your teeth or your nose is a major turn off. Love your videos by the way, keep ‘em coming!
I also ensure the zipper is secure and the belt buckle is properly positioned to ensure a good fit. This attention to detail is particularly important for women. My watches always feature high-quality, dark brown leather bands (changed at least yearly, just to ensure the good look). I've also learned about the distinction between summer and winter clothing, including the different types of shoes available. Previously, I was heavier, but as I've moved up in social class and lost weight, I've had to adapt. I would like to express my gratitude for this channel, as I have learned alot. I encourage you to continue your excellent work.
ever since I took JROTC in junior year of high school, the gig line has been a focal point in my clothing. once I thought about it once, I could never _not_ think about it again. kinda funny that all these years later, years after enlisting, I _still_ haven't been issued a dress uniform. only time I've needed to care about my gig line is in civilian clothing, lol.
Thanks for the heads up about undershirts. I was spot-on about every other point, but that one. Just in luck, I'm looking to buy some to replace my current white ones. Glad I found this vid before I pulled the trigger!
Outstanding video as always; Thank you so much for taking the time making it. Antonio: based on the topic of this awesome video, can you please make a new video about: “What kind of clothes and shoes to wear(and not to wear) if you want to be and look elegant and stylish in an airplane when you travel” Obviously, not to impress anyone, not to pretend either. Just logical, practical and helpful ways to be, look and feel good and comfortable when you travel, because “the way you look(good or bad) the exact same way people will treat you everywhere around the world”(human nature). Your recommendations, ideas, suggestions, guidance, etc will be very and extremely appreciated as always. Thank you very much once again.
Waistcoats will save you from majority of these mistakes. Wrinkled shirt? Too short necktie? Not matching symmetry of shirt and trouser line? Waistcoats got them covered!
Great video! It might help to think of the tie as a button- (or gig line) hider. Simply make sure that the tip of the tie covers the button of your trousers and you are all set.
@@Tom_H327yeah, I think people wear ties wayyy too long nowadays. Guidelines about ties going lower than the belt dates back to when pants waists rode much higher.
@@ahwhite2022 totally agree. I wear my suit pants at the same as I wear my jeans. I dunno if that is right or not, but if I wear any higher eventually they will end up lower. 😂😉
Ahhhaahahaha! That is too funny! Yes, always check your fly, even when standing up from sitting. As you know Antonio, we Vets NEVER put our hands in our pockets unless we are getting something from it! Gig lines! Yes!Yes!Yes! No excuse for wrong trouser length....none. Proportion is King! When buying a tie, take one that already fits properly and compare lengths. The tiniest pebbles can cause the largest landslides. Great video Antonio!
Lol I remember back in elementary school a female fire fighter came to school to teach us and her fly was open you could literally see her garments and she was speaking in front of many people I remember it bothering me because nobody told her but everyone was looking so I asked my best friend if he saw to make sure he said yeah but if you say something shell be mad and think you're being rude. Even after hearing that I could somehow see it was wrong not to try so I walked up to her and my teachers yelled what I was doing but i kept going and told her she was so happy and hugged and said thanks she was wondering why everyone was looking at her a certain way. 😂
Hey Antonio, could you perhaps make a video about the best magazines to look for clothing styles? I would be really curious about an old money magazine
interesting about the necktie, i watched a bunch of old 50s and 60s tv shows, all the men wear neckties, even the bad guys. when their jacket was off, peter gunn, especially, had his necktie tucked in his pants. worked for craig stevens...
For the first 11:11 of this video you were driving me crazy with that undershirt! When it showed up throughout I figured it was on purpose. Glad you called it out. It's so bad.
Great video Antonio, I did chuckle a bit because I finally found myself disagreeing with you on something there toward the end. Ever since I started working remotely I’ve not had much of a chance to wear my neckties (I must say I kind of miss it sometimes). I don’t like the plunging neckline as much as you do though. This meant that when I started wearing polo-shirts, my undershirt would usually show a little. Once I noticed this, it made me think of my days back when I worked at a COCOM and had to deal with multiple uniformed personnel, and I was always impressed by some of the marine uniforms. In particular the MARPAT and what I think they called the service or Charlie uniforms that showed the undershirt very deliberately. What struck me was just how nice the collars of their undershirts always were. My undershirts were pretty bad, but it didn’t matter because I was always wearing a button down shirt and tie. Anyway, once I realized I’d be wearing polo shirts more often, I took some inspiration from the Marines and got rid of all my worn out undershirts and now always make sure that any collar that gets seen is crisp, clean and free of any wrinkles or damage. I know you’ll probably disagree with this one, but I just don’t like showing that much skin, and this kind of works for me. Anyway, thanks for having a great channel. I always look forward to your advice - whether I find myself taking it or not. :)
7:01 I know this as a "3-roll-2" but it's the same thing. I have a tweed jacket with that style, which is close fitting anyway so I always just do the middle. With tie width (I do wear ties now and again as I have an office job), I've found that some ties are too wide for my build. In other words, I'm quite skinny and some ties look huge on me! It's a shame as I have ties that I like but just don't wear. I'm sure it isn't to do with the jacket lapel either as I find the same thing when I don't wear a jacket, although it's more noticeable with jacket on.
You should give fashion tips to business men in Japan. The fashion police should be called on most of them; especially the media reporters. Pretty sad dress. Your videos are great! Thanks!
Hi Antonio. I only buy three-piece suits and always bottom button undone on the waistcoat. However, What's the rule on wearing the blazer top button when standing or speaking to the public when also wearing a waistcoat underneath at the same time? Thank you. Peter in England
Hi Antonio. I'm a big guy starting to wear suits. mostly as a workthing. But I am having issues with the fit of the suits. I have all my suits tailormade, but I think they make me look bigger than what I actually am. Is that just the thing with suits and big guys, or are there different tailor choices to make? All of my tailors have said that it fits me as it should.
Antonio, don't you think we don't notice your grey undershirt in some of your videos! in any case, great advices. The zipper I've been guilty of quite a few times.
I'll be 57 in a few weeks, and just this past year sort of learned how to iron...🙄🙄🙄 This is necessary when you go from dressing like a schmuck to someone who actually invests in a decent wardrobe. I'm still stunned by the reactions I get when im smelling good, and dressed well.
Dress watches are leather straps, sports watches are bracelets, NATO are for summer instead of bracelets or all year on a sports watch if more comfortable. The key thing is ALWAYS leather for a dress watch. Great video Antonio.
For the wrinkled shirt a trick my mom taught me is to take a hot shower and hang the shirt in the bathroom, and the steam will unwrinkle the shirt a bit
Choose Seiko. Be careful though, because If you choose a Seiko diver or a sports watch, you will be hooked on Seiko for forever. Trust me, it happened to me. Bought a Seiko Turtle and loved it so much I bought a Samurai, then 2 Samurai, and then a Willard. Holy crap! They are addictive and you will love every second of it. 😂 Do it!!
At 1:43 if you look closely, you can spot a little mistake there yourself: The shirt under your shirt shows. That's a No-Go! Close up one more Button and bam! It won't happen again.
I've had jeans where the zipper doesn't always want to stay up so I solved that by running a small split ring through the zipper and put it over the button before buttoning it up. Problem solved. Also not good is if someone who has jeans that fit like the ones on the thumbnail and you can see the hem of their boxer briefs showing through.
Do you ever take into consideration a persons body type? Some of these style choices look better or worse on certain types of figures. I myself can get away with just about anything, and have even been told I look good in everything I wear. But there are some who need to refine their look with a lot more work. It might sound like I have an inflated ego but I personally believe it's a real thing,
I'm a woman looking at these videos to really learn how to recognize a well dressed man and I can definitely agree with the length of a tie. Too short or too long and it looks hideous
All excellent tips, but you failed to mention shoes! I've seen guys wearing nice clothes with all the details correct, but then they wear ratty shoes that haven't been polished since they bought them years ago. You can tell they're just sloppy.
Let’s start a revolution by using all the suit jacket buttons. Why should some fat king influence our style? This is America. Home of excess. All the buttons. All the time.
Your content has really gone downhill saying you're gonna laugh at people, when the gentlemanly thing is to politely point that out.....that's disrespectful and honestly not a good image for you, Antonio.
Some people are obsessed with the pointless routine that is pressing/ironing the clothes. Also, mixing different fabric weights? Do it. (Winter clothing is just multiple layers of summer clothing.) Stop following the crowd. Be on your own path.
