So, these "tips" go far beyond cosplay, these are helpful in engineering foam solutions, shoe manufacturing, toys, building products, other consumer products so on. This is huge, because this has a tremendous amount of knowledge in a short 5 minute video. Like seriously... engineers and manufacturing facilities would pay good money to learn this stuff. THANK YOU!!!

I've had a lot of trouble working with that first foam you used (the really soft one). I bought like 4 different knives, and even tried a surgical knife and I still couldn't cut it well. This video helped me so much! Thanks :)

The softer the foam the harder it is to cut for sure!! We also struggle with soft foam sometimes XD i'm really glad that this helped a bit! :3

thank you SO much for these tips!! I am still intimidated by foam for some odd reason even though I've seen a ton of tutorials about using it and have used it in the past! hope to make some really cool armor one day that looks as clean as the work you guys do!

I was intimidated too! I just started a project to make Link's Hylian shield. Rather than start with a large project/full kit, I realized making a cool prop would be a good start. I'm making mistakes, but foam is actually pretty accommodating...and...the best part: I'm learning. 😊

I have been using EVA for custom shelving in my cube organizers. One tip I can offer if you mess up a cut and end up with jagged lines or angles on your edges is to use a combination of soft sanding brushes (not the drum sanders!) and rubber or wool polishing tips with a Dremel at 15000rpm. The sanding brush will cleanly sand the edge with much better precision than the drum sanders since it's a mesh fiber. And the rubber polishing tip will friction melt large abnormalities, while the wool polishing tip will friction melt smaller ones. This takes a few seconds, but it allows you to fix messed up cuts and conserve materials.

Ohhh… 😮 Eva shelving. Nice idea!

Thank you! I was trying to sand a piece earlier today with the hard sander on my rotary tool. I'll try the brush sander tomorrow.

This is such a great starting point for beginners in EVA! I make costumes for a living and do a ton of leatherwork, but EVA is sooo new and foreign to me. Thank you so much! *smashes the subscribe button & rings the bell*

1:10 I thought this was going to be the dull cut at first. A little tip I can provide here is when starting the cut don't just drag it through like it's shown here. You're damaging the beginning of the cut. Instead saw into the very edge to get it started then pull it through.

I got myself an Axe handle from Home Depot, how would I be able to make sure the EVA sticks? I’m a complete newbie to this stuff and this would be the first thing I’m actually gonna make something properly. My last project was a shield made out of a Garbage can lid

Hi Taylor! I really admire your work! I wanted to ask you, I primed Eva foam with glue and painted it and didn't like the result. Now I bought a heatgun and plastidip to make the results better BUT I don't know how to smooth the surface that was already primed. I don't wanna waste all the work I did cutting and gluing. Can I sand it? Is there a way to disolve it? Will the heat gun and plastidip all over the paint cover everything again so I can paint? Thank you so much for this tutorial and your beautiful cosplays

Thank you very much for this video. As a beginner it would be also helpful to know what can I use to paint my armor? :3
@KinpatsuCosplay
@KinpatsuCosplay 4 года назад
You can use acrylic paint and mix in a bit of flexible primer like flexbond or hexflex, you can also mix fabric medium into the paint to keep if flexible :3 if you want to you can also invest in a cheap airbrush and compressor. They are fantastic for painting too if you plan on doing it a lot!
