The annual beginner snowboarding tips video only means that the season is right around the corner LFG!!! These tips are CLUTCH I'm telling y'all these tips are so good that I've picked some of them up subconsciously throughout my years just because they made sense! Half of these tips I do multiple times on a trip. Great vid TJ!!
@@spooky066 bro I'm so fucking excited, I waited an entire year since I only got to board up one time last season, so I'm going Sunday with my roomate, I'm so ready!!
@@johnpaul531 do you want to know something so amazing that is free Jesus offers you His Righteousness as a gift for free! He will wash you completely Clean from ALL your sins and wants you to Come to him it says, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Meaning the punishment for our sins is Hell Because we are not obedient to God. But Jesus was completely obedient to God He went to the cross to die for us and now we do not trust in our obedience but His it says, “Yet now he has reconciled you to himself through the death of Christ in his physical body. As a result, he has brought you into his own presence, and you are holy and blameless as you stand before him without a single fault.” Gods wrath and Judgment went on Jesus Because He was carrying our sins so God treated Him like the worst sinner now God will Justly treat you like you have never sinned after you believe upon Him so when the blood of Jesus is over you God cannot treat you like a sinner! He never wants to but now He can Justly treat you like you never sinned Jesus was our sacrifice for our sins! Tell God you admit your a sinner and ask Him to wash you with His blood and receive His Gift of righteousness. Come out of darkness and into light! it’s your part to receive Jesus to believe upon Him. It says, “Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.” Don’t think it’s not wrong to sin -because He loves us.
Pocket check is fricken crucial - you'll have to get used to freaking out when you can't feel your car keys every couple of laps when they're deeper in your pocket than you thought they could go 🤣. Worth it for the clear headed, happy lap that comes from knowing you've got all your gear though. Nice vid TJ
@@fudhater8592 hahaha exactly... a half decent pair of pants with some good pockets should be the 3rd or 4th thing a new snowboarder buys... happy riding guys. Much love
Great tips, especially the one about putting some pressure on heel or toe edge when on flat parts. Just broke my wrist on my 2nd day because I landed on it after catching an edge on a flat part
I've been riding for years and learned a new trick or two. Heel edge dig when stopped and the cross leg chair lift trick. I'll try them on My Tremblant tomorrow. Good video not the usual repetitive tips and few tips for making it an easy day when relaxed riding thanks man.
Well said . Beaver slap can loosen bindings quicker. Also the lift crew hates the beaver slapers try and do it at the top not in line if you remember lol
I get a little nostalgic watching her grow on the slopes. I was a single mom but me and my 2 boys spent many memorable hours on the slopes. I hope I'm around to watch her slay the Olympics! BTW just curious... Are Cash and Sage friends yet? I have no doubt they'll be compeditors before long. Keep the vids coming I'm a big fan!
When you stand-strapping just turn around and hit 1-2 times to dig your heel edge so it wont slide downhill. Its much easier and you can do it even on a steeper slope. Exactly like when you jump-and-dig in the end of the video
An addition to the skating tip. Rotate your foot when you push so that your toes are pointing towards the tail of the board. This takes up less space, especially in lift lines, and to me feels more natural. High back down is a good one; have fallen after catching a high back under chair getting off lift.
Been snowboarding a long time, but never thought about using the heel cup to rest my snowboard on, definitely lost a few boots to the stitches going out 😅
All good stuff I do automatically but need to teach my kids to do all the time. I literally just picked up a cell phone yesterday near the top of Keystone, not to far from most of your filming, and luckily the owner had fallen only 20 foot down from it...he checked his non-zipper pocket and surely it was missing! smh
As a liftie... my eyes are constantly scanning people .. if I see your pockets open.... im gonna let you know that.... *I've lost my phone countless times. I know the feeling.
Hi there, I’m heading into my second season in December of this year and wanted to know something. I picked up snowboarding really quickly, granted I had lessons, but I never really got the hand of getting off the ski lift properly. Is there any way to make it easier?
Hey can someone explain why back edge skating is better ? I see many video saying that but no explanation. To me it's just people saying that and taking it for granted but never tedted
when you skate with your back foot pushing in front of your toe edge it rotates your hips and causes your board to start turning frontside automatically. It's just harder to go straight smoothly. Its possible, but not the easiest way when starting out.
@@BoardArchive thank you for the answer 👍 appreciate it.I teach both sides to my students because some have a easier time putting their center of mass when the board is behind them than others. (Like on a skateboard) I see all the young teacher teach behind. That is why I was looking for info 😁
The beaver slap can bust your binding. If you have something in your hands like a camera why is it if you crash you always run over it? I have run over several pairs of glasses, a camera, a sandwich, and an iphone.
This is really good stuff. Thank you. I'm 65 years old, and I'm loving snowboarding. I'm starting slow, and getting training, but I can tell you this is a blast. Thanks for the great information.
You are an inspiration and role model! I’m 53 and just got a taste of it 2 weeks ago and loved it (even though I fell countless times and now recovering from a twisted knee from avoiding clashing into a little kid wandering across the slopes). Can’t wait to get back.
Worked great on about 6"-8" of average snow starts to struggle a bit past 8". ru-vid.comUgkxoHYZbq5g9fkcAtinlTqstNlje-UQkCHN Very light weight and the chute spin control works well. For the low price you get a ton of value. My only complaint is managing the cord as it does take a fair bit of effort to watch and pull the cord out of the way. I found myself having to whip the cord out of the way a lot when I needed to make one way passes to mange the blow direction. It's less of an issue when you can work both directions. A battery powered version would be a lot easier to handle but that is also double the price and requires battery care. I chose the corded version so I didn't have to worry about batteries but I do now see how much work the cord is. I let my neighbor borrow it and it outperformed his smaller gas blower, he was totally sold. Very pleased with the power and operations. My only suggestion is to spend a bit more on a cordless version if you have budget for it. The cord is a bit more of a headache than I thought it would be. Very pleased with the Snow Joe brand and quality.
Pocket check really hits my soul. I lost my car keys on mountain once and it really sucks. Luckily they we’re handed in to guest services an hour after i started retracing my steps.
I have new hips. Actually they are about 5 years old. I am 74 and I think I am in good health. I am 5’5” and about 155lbs. What do you think of me riding again?
I Never had a those problem, by putting my Google on my helmet or head. Had more problems breathing in heat inside my Googles. Then it gets fogy, specially really cold days.
Good list. I do most of those with the exception of 2. The beaver tail slap and digging your Heel edge in facing uphill. I'll be trying them next time I'm on the slopes. You should make a video on duck/penguin walking.
That trick for defogging goggles - definitely going to be giving that one a shot this season. Seems like my Anon M4s fog up if you look at them the wrong way. Thanks for the solid list man, for sure going to be sending this to some friends who are getting into snowboarding this year! Great work on the vid as always!
I’ve never fogged my lenses ever. Except for when you walk indoors, but that doesn’t count. I guess I never take mine off when outside though. No reason to.
@@christophergruenwald5054 yeah the only time mine ever really fog is when I wear goggles during a hike session or hiking into a new zone. I have put them on my forehead before tho and that will 100% make them fog if it’s cold out
Great tips! At least two of these are new to me and I'm glad to have learned them. Three tips I give anyone who is about to start: 1) buy butt pads, wrist guards, and spine armor. Your bones will thank you. 2) Pay for the lessons. Your friends won't have the patience. Learn from the people who get paid to be on the bunny hill with you all day if necessary. And do all three days in a row. Yes it sucks, but you're going to be glad you did. 3) spend the next two days on cat tracks. The slower speeds will help you learn to avoid edges, which you will catch, but will hurt less. And your s-turns will get better at slow speeds as well.
I don't agree with the skating with your foot on the back tip, but I think it's a difference between North America and Europe. Here in Europe we learn it with the foot in front, like on a skateboard and once you get used to that, it's very easy and you can skate much faster than with your foot on the back. With your foot at the back you push with your foot sideways and you even stand a little backwords with your upper body. With the foot in front you can turn your shoulders a little in the direction you're moving. I suggest everybody to try both ways.
Regarding fog ups, additional community tip: I board in the PNW. We have more wet days than we have cotton candy powder. This is a nightmare for all goggles if the temp is 32 degrees and all that snow is melting / evaporating off you. I use Smith Skyline XL goggles which are great for anti fog, but still fell victim. 1) Make sure your baclava, hair, beanie or any sort of mask is not UNDER the goggle foam. Should be only your goggle foam and your skin touching each other, that is it. Your sweat / snow will be banking itself in that extra material and evaporating in the goggle faster than it is designed to air out. It also breaks the goggles seal with your skin. Never break the seal. 2) Dont look down excessively at your board / bindings. Hot air rises. That hot air will be sticking to your outer and potentially inner lenses. Learn to strap in off feel while looking dead ahead. (Even while standing). 3) I’d leave your nose exposed to the elements on wet days. Beanie and mask will vent hot air right to your goggles. Take breaks to raise the mask / beanie when you’re not breathing hard (and probably cold). 4) if they fog up and they will; spend quality time to actually clear them. Truly Fogged goggles are dangerous and will most likely only get worse. Put them in your jacket and open a vent to air. Use the chair lift like he said. Go into the lodge. They should clear in 10-15 minutes no problem. 5) Do not wipe the lenses. Do not wipe the lenses. In fact, I would never wipe the lenses while out on the slopes. The outer generally clear itself with a head shake and some fresh cool air. With the inner being wet, see point 4. 6) Can’t say it enough. Don’t break the seal. - Also OT, bibs are worth every cent you spend on them. All your loot right on your chest and within easy reach to check on. Plus no snow in your pants is a silver lining after you scorpioned infront of the entire chair lift.
All absolutely critical tips most of which took me over a year or two of Snowboarding to learn by myself... this videos will be a game changer for all of you beginners out there. And that one about digging in the heel edge when facing uphill just blee my mind.
Great tips shredder. Pocket check is top of the list for me! Been snowboarding a long time and I have always pushed skate style with my back foot. Just can't make the switch to pushing on back side of board. I can push really well/fast...UNTIL I get tired, then the skate push starts to get sloppy, like I'm drunk. 🤪
Some great tips in here, however I wouldn’t rule out skating with the foot in front entirely. I taught snowboarding for 15 years and I always taught both ways and let students decide what worked better for them. I alternate between the 2 to give different muscles a break and I find foot in front takes up a bit less space in a crowded lift line. Never tried that heel edge trick to stand still before, so looking forward to giving that a shot. Great video!
For the chairlift: put the back down and then connect the front strap very loosely so you can slide in after getting on the lift . It is the most comfortable way to ride the lift by far and still protects the back.
Nice job. Been riding for 30 years. I do a lot of these subconsciously these days and forget that new riders sometimes miss the little things to make riding easier.
I've been watching TJ for years now and everything he says has been so helpful! been developing my snowboards for years now and your videos has helped me a lot to get to the level I can shred some sick slopes. Super friendly and helpful guy in person too. Glad we met in whistler. next time It'll be sick to ride with you in NZ sometime.
Was expecting to know all of these tips now I feel like such an amateur lol never worried about putting my binding down and always struggle to balance stopping to talk with friends. Great video.
As someone from europe, strange to see the chairlifts without ski resting places down at the foot or sometimes even without safety bars, never seen a chairlift without them here
going off of number 2, I always lock in my binding straps when going up the lift. I have had the binding straps pulled under the board when getting off or skating. I have also had the binding straps rotate, which some binding straps unscrew and detach by twisting them around a few times.
This is a few nice reminders for me as I prepare for my first snowboarding in two and a half years. Queenstown see you in July! Keep up the great content TJ
Wild that some places in this world actually have a snowboard season... it's been two fn years for me in Europe because I refuse the poke 😪 it's insane here
Yep, me neither - not a chance was I gonna be coerced into having the quaccine...and then the mandates were dropped 🤣. Folk need to embrace mass non compliance, thankfully plenty of folk seem to finally be waking up to the tyrannical BS.
@@sassberry Update i went in December with masks recommended but no mandates. Going to Switzerland in 2 weeks 😎. Hold the line bro 😤. Never let this happen again
Just learned to snowboard last weekend and the pockets check is something I could've used, seeing as my phone got a screenfull of snow. Definitely coming back to your channel TJ!
I'm a vet but I've always had stomp in bindings. Just bought new bindings with a back and you saved me hundreds of dollars for not crushing my brand new bindings. Plus some extra tips that I hadn't heard before. Thanks for the video!!
3:13 even better than digging a flat shelf to strap up your rear binding is to use a FLOW binding for your back foot. I can strap in without even stopping and it takes me about 2 seconds.
that tip of pressing your backfoot against the binding, or moving it all the way forward is indeed useful. about the highback, i have Flow bindings, where the highback folds backwards. For strapping in.. i just start of where it is not too steep if there's no flat spot, slide my backfoot in, and lift the highback in position.. works like a charm.(the same basically goes for step-in bindings (though these are not common)) When i stop on a hill, indeed i always stop facing up, but then i just drop to my knees.. easy enough to get going again..
