Good stuff, thanks for all the helpful tips. A little more feedback: 1. fully charge all your devices before you leave home. 2. Bring a little cash (but not a whole lot). 3. Seats next to the bathroom get the most noise and foot traffic. 4. Don't get stupid or drunk; the driver can legally leave you on the side of the road if he sees you as a disturbance. 5. Don't get caught drinking on the bus, the driver will read you the riot act and possibly kick you off the bus, even if you're not being bothersome. 6. Big city greyhound terminals are usually in the worst part of town - ATL/Dallas/LA/etc - straight gangster, be super careful. Don't wander 5 feet outside the terminal, especially in ATL (feels like Kabul). Strangely, the El Paso greyhound terminal is a beautiful work of art. 7. Every time I've ridden through Arizona or New Mexico, a group of released prisoners got on the bus. They just finished doing serious time and they're literally out of prison for the first time in decades - so they are the most upright citizen you've ever had the pleasure of sitting next to, at least for today, lol.
One thing you need to mention is that Greyhound cranks up the AC in summer to the point where you know what the chicken in the 'fridge feels like, and cranks up the heat in the winter to the point where you feel like you're in a Turkish bathhouse, so dress accordingly.
Sit toward the front of the bus. You'll get off the bus sooner and you can beeline to the food counters without having to stand in line. Then you can relax until it reboards.
2nd tip. If you know you are going to have a good size layover, check out google maps of the area outside. You can then determine or plan if you want to venture out to that McDonalds or Starbucks or whatever.
As a frequent Greyhounder, I also recommend having a VERY distinctive bag in general...for instance, my go to checked bag is bright purple with stickers so I can easily spot it among the sea of black and navy blue bags...also, always bring a snack and water bottle when possible. Some stations may have broken vending machines, or you may take a break somewhere where there isn't much to choose from.
Hello! Just gonna copy and paste my question here for the two of you. I'm a short female and quite young. I am excited but a bit nervous about taking the greyhound for the first time. My trip will be about a day and a half. I'm planning on buying my ticket *5 days* before leaving. Just 5. Is that good enough? I want to be able to sit near the driver, as you have suggested in other videos.
This is good material. I've been on the greyhound numerous of time. Everything you mentioned was to the letter. My Sister will be traveling this morning on the greyhound for the first time now I can give her a rundown on what she need to do and expect. I was only going to tell her to bring snacks and keep an eye on her bags and they do have restrooms on the bus. My sister is a cleanaholic. I can hear her telling others "My sister never told me about the filthy restroom or could be long layovers blah blah blah". Never will hear the end of it(Lol). So I better call her now before she boards. BTW I listened to this video from the beginning to end. Enjoyed every minute of it. Was educational and fun to watch. Thanks!
Im on Greyhound right now. Definitely nervous lol but so far its been great. Its the first time ive left kentucky on my own and first time ive ever road a bus so its all new XD im headed all the way to Indianapolis rn im on the second bus from Evansville and it was so beautiful there! Theres a guy on my bus that looks like you so im wondering if it's you... LMFAO ive done smiled at him like 5x
Thanks, Tim! This will be my first cross-country trip on the Dog in over thirty-five years. It will be interesting to see how Greyhound has or hasn't changed.
Cammy GrungeKitten taking one from El Paso Texas to Tennessee & getting married over Christmas leave! Gonna be a long rough trip but at least i’m getting married to the most incredible woman😊
Thank you so much for these tips. I have ridden Greyhound many times when I was younger, but now I had forgotten most of these quirks so thanks for the tips. I'm riding from Mobile, AL to Los Angeles, CA then to Oahu
A friend and i are planning on taking a trip to 15 states in a month. Even with whats happening now, we think its the best time to do it while we can. We plan on trying to remain as safe as we possibly can. This video helps me out. Youre awesome!!
@@GwynethFaeleneThatOneWierdo we did 17 states in 2 weeks on east side! we recorded most of it on our channel @ Thisishowfreeiam you can check it out if you feel like! thank you for asking!
Taking my first greyhound coming up for a 12 hour trip. Should be an adventure but that's kind of what I was looking for out of a vacation for me. FIngers crossed. Stumbled across your vids, so lets see how it works out. Maybe come back and update when it's done.
I'm afraid to take Greyhound -- haven't since going to D.C. with my mom (when I was a child) to see the national monuments. So I'm hoping that by listening to and watching you in this video, I'll learn from your tips. I wouldn't take any bus cross-country, but I wouldn't mind shorter trips. I just started watching, but I SURE hope you talk about ... The Bathroom At The Rear Of The Bus. lol
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️THANK YOU SO MUCH❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ I just had my first greyhound trip from Pensacola Fl all the way back home to Columbia Sc that lasted from 11:15am Sunday to 8am Monday and your tips saved my life literally!! even though I’m 27 I’m still a young black female traveling alone so it’s scary and without the proper knowledge anything could’ve happened but I sat up front like the second row so there was no drama I got to sit alone with my mean face even tho I’m nice lol and even through two transfers I still got to be alone which was very peaceful lol I kept my tickets close I paid attention to my surroundings and kept up with the schedule my bags were the right size so I got to take both on with me even though usually it’s one I’m just extremely grateful for all the tips the first day I knew I’d be taking the bus I watched all your videos they gave me so much confidence even if you choose to never ride the bus again the times that you have definitely were beneficial to me and plenty of others who would never know without you Barack will always be the greatest of all time and yes you do sound like him but you’re also very informative and easy on the eye just like him lol you made things so clear and took all the fear out of something that was very necessary for my well being and I can continue to take trips and create more precious memories I know this is just RU-vid but I feel like I met you in person so with all this being said I pray God blesses you and everything you do with all my heart thank you!!!
I rode Greyhound from Wichita Falls TX to Myrtle Beach SC (I think it took me 2 1/2 days?!?!)... My experience was not all that bad, the only thing I really hated was at night... I felt like we stopped every three hours for a bus stop, thus every time I was about to fall asleep I would wake up due to the bus stop. One tip I would give would be to have some snacks with your carry on. Sometimes we would not stop to eat and I ended up waiting for two hours to get food. Oh another tip, I was military so I was automatically on the bus first and if you have your CAC you can get on the bus first
Love ypur videos I was binge watching them trying to plan for this trip. It really helped me get more comfortable with this trip! Thank you so much! 😊🙏😉😄👏👍👌✌
Very timely tips for me ... my first trip coming up in 10 days and it's a 22 hour ordeal!!! Four transfers and one International border crossing. Not looking forward to this at all ... I'm LARGE size and decided to take a chance and booked two seats. I did speak to the ticket agent at my boarding location and she said the driver will certainly try and accommodate if possible. Otherwise I fear for the poor sumabitch that will have to sit beside me ... :O One layover is almost 5 hours and that doesn't impress me at all. Just not something I am looking forward to and hopefully will never happen again. Just a strange set of circumstance that forced me to take the bus to get home. I'll definitely check out some of your other videos ... thanks for some great information.
Thanks this really helped me. I'm so nervous about my trip I'm taking in the next two days plus it's my first time travelling with Greyhound. Keep it up.
What's up my dude . I'm taking my first trip on greyhound next week. I'm traveling from Bama to Ohio for my 17th . I'm glad you're still making videos man ,they've made me feel a lot less anxious about traveling on greyhound .

One time I had a layover in Wichita. It was literally 9 hours. I was there all night in December and the station closed at 10 pm. I had to hold up in an abandoned building to keep warm.
I'm going to be taking a trip to see my friends they are picking me up in California then I take Grey hound back, I have crippling anxiety and fears, I plan on watching this and many others alot
Thanks for the Great Tips Tim!! I'm planning to travel from Detroit, Michigan to Las Vegas Nevada in October and I had always wanted to travel on Greyhound but never had the opportunity to until now! I'm subscribing to your channel for more helpful information!!! Thanks Again!!!
I will start to visit the US for the first time in my life next week and did already booked the greyhound from NYC to Buffalo and back and to be honest: I´m quite excited and very interested in how it is gonna be... The tipps you gave are extremely useful and improvising on the road is something, I already had to learn on my interrail trip through southern Europe 2 years ago. When your train isn´t working anymore 60 miles before you reach Rome and you don´t know where you are and don´t speak a single word italian, you learn a lot^^
Great stuff. Thanks for posting your whole series. Sad that "the dog" is cutting back so many schedules in US and all of western Canada. I use it often from New York to DC or Montreal. Works great for me. The price is right.
Your videos helped me tremendously!!! Just rode Greyhound for the first time yesterday to go to the Detroit Auto Show and it went off without a hitch (minus the half-hour to 40 minute delay both ways which I know is child's play in comparison LOL).
Hey GURU !!!!.....Thanks-A-Million for such helpful videos!!!...I personally have gone GREYHOUND lot's of times.Usually about 4-5 hour trips. One 14 hour about 2008.. got 1 coming up in about 2 weeks from Shreveport,LA.to Puerto Escondido in Oaxaca Mexico. G-dog can get me to Mex.CITY then ADO from there so I'm in for about a40-50 hr.marathon w/layovers and what not.Love your channel brother!!!!...Even an old Greyhound veteran like me learned a lot from your videos.I remember one video of yours where you said "You don't want to be stuck at the bus station in Shreveport.La.for several hours"...Man oh man I can DEFINITELY say you are right-on with that one!....Being my home town I've been in and out of that one A LOT!!!....its got to be the one that feels the most "UNSAFE"in my limited expirience and Dallas.TX.is really sketchy too....I used to suggest that people can bring a pillow with them for sittin or sleeping more comfortably but the last couple of times I rode the seats were quite comfortable you can always leave it or give it away @ your final stop.Anyhoo thanks again for all the sound advice looking forward to more cool videos....Your friend in travel,BRIAN. i
One tip i have for the charging issue, get a power bank or borrow one from a friend/relative. Then you can charge your phone from any situation, not power outlet, no problem! You can even put your phone and power bank in your pack together and charge
Thanks for the tips video, Frugal. I am traveling by bus for the first time in 20 years. The first thing I did was go to the grocery store and bought some soda and snacks so I don't get gouged. I will be watching the baggage attendant, to make sure my checked baggage gets on the bus. I also have to change buses and will be watching for that as well. I don't need my Thanksgiving vacation to see my family ruined. Thanks again!
main tip...if Amtrak goes where you are going..take them. Also my experiences told me to always bring fabreeze stick ons..you will encounter people with crazy bad body odor..if you have to get off and back on the bus try to have no checked luggage for example when crossing into canada..the driver will tell you to go back to the same seat..but there is always an asshole who will take your seat. so sit up front so you are 1st in line or just take a carry on..you will be 1st in customs and 1st out, so you can get your seat back. and PLEASE take ear buds,headphones,etc..to block out the shit you do not want to hear!! don't rule out amtrak..my last trip from pittsburgh to NYC was only $130 roundtrip..which was comparable to greyhound and megabus. Thanks for your vids, very informative.
About to go on a 54 hour trip to Vancouver British Columbia. From Eastern Oklahoma! So Thank you very much sir for all the tips.. my first greyhound trip! Been watching your videos for a long time now ;) 😎
I honestly prefer never to take Greyhound. I hate to fly, so my preferred method is Amtrak. However, Amtrak does not go everywhere so they will include a Greyhound ticket for places not served by the train. My experiences with Greyhound range from uneventful to downright awful. One trip I had my wallet stolen in the station, one trip the bus driver was crazy and threatened all the passengers and stopped the bus right before the exit to the station and locked everyone in the bus. As much as I hate flying, I think I would prefer it over the bus.
I really appreciate these tips im going to go see my girlfriend in Massachusetts in a few weeks and im taking greyhound and ive never traveled alone before so its gonna be the first time traveling alone and ive never took a bus before so im really stressed and nervous on what to do so thank you so much for these tips it helped a bit
I'm going to New York City next month on the Greyhound bus. This is not my first time traveling to New York City by the Greyhound bus however it is my first time traveling on the Greyhound bus alone.
Is it worth it to get priority boarding? Going across country for first time in a cpl weeks. 63 hr trip. So nervous. Always hear people being late and missing their connecting bus
I’m 64 years old i used to ride the bus all the time when I was 18 to 25 me and my dad delivered motorhomes all over the country and I had to ride the bus back we had a great time doing that I would like to ride the bus again but things have changed a lot too bad all the passengers aren’t like you would be a great experience To do this again just for the fun of it but unfortunately I probably wouldn’t get to sit by somebody like you they had common sense and a decent human being keep up the good work if you want somebody to tagalong invite me I’d love to go
I fell out with Greyhound while in the Navy. I think they are horrible, just a tad better than hitchhiking. I took the bus from Columbia, SC to Norfolk, VA many times 1960-1962. It was always the same. They would drop the passengers off at midnight at this tiny town, South Hill, VA at a gas station and there was no bus station, so we had to wait outside in the cold for sometimes an hour. Finally, probably the oldest bus in their fleet arrived for the rest of the trip. The bus was nowhere big enough for the large number of sailors, and EVERY time, I was forced to STAND for the 120 miles to Norfolk. We were sardines in a tin can. I would never take Greyhound again, and I am 83 yrs old. BTW, they were SO generous with about a 5% discount for being military. Greyhound sucks. And it is even worse now, since I read that the bus stations are being bought by huge conglomerates, and passengers are forced to wait outside!!!
I'm a short female and quite young. I am excited but a bit nervous about taking the greyhound for the first time. My trip will be about a day and a half. I'm planning on buying my ticket **5 days** before leaving. Just 5. Is that good enough? I want to be able to sit near the driver, as you have suggested in other videos.
Going to Kansas to meet my girlfriend in real life for the first time after talking over 2 years and being in a relationship for about nine months. The only thing that was worrying me more than my first real impression on her is going on my first Greyhound. Thank you very much for your time and tips, dude.
thank you so much I've got so much information from watching your Channel I got a trip coming up real soon and this has helped me out a great deal thank😏
