Arrival 7/9
Chamonix Campgrounds (starting)
Les arroles campground (NO RESERVATIONS NEEDED)
281 chemin du Cry, 74400 Chamonix Mont-Blanc, France
4.4 euros/tent, 7.10/adult
Toilets, showers, charging station, dish washing
Free access to public transportation
Luggage office you can come back and get. YOU CAN STORE LUGGAGE AT THIS CAMP SITE IF YOU ASK AT THE FRONT DESK
There is trail transportation
Grocery stores and restaurants in chamonix
Best coffee shops in Chamonix: L’Alt, Moody coffee roasters (exceptional chai), Rose du Pont (great hot chocolate), plan B (also has a full menu & bar)
Stay the night at this campground to start the trail the NEXT DAY
Night 1 (of the trail) 7/10 (DAY TOTAL = 14 MILES)
You will start the day bussing from Chamonix to Les Houches (which is where the trail officially starts) typically the Les arroles campground will give you bus tickets but if not you can purchase at the bus ticket counter. Then you will enter the the archway that says “Tour du Kong Blanc” and start the trail which begins on a road to start.
HIKE 12 miles (tough incline to start)
Camping Le Pontet
Toilets, hot showers, wifi, laundry
small shack onsight that sell snacks and drinks
Small restaurant on site
Pass by regufes: Bionassay Refuge
Night 2 7/11 (DAY TOTAL = 11 MILES)
4,700 ft of gain in under 7 miles
Free Camping in Les Chapieux
Go to the tourist office in town
Toilets, sinks, water supply
Grocery store
Restaurants
EAT AT PIZZA PLACE
Pass by refuges: Nant borrant AND bonhomme
Night 3 7/12 (DAY TOTAL = 12 MILES)
Moderate incline
CAMPING somewhere past refuge Elissabetta at the bottom of the hill.
We will wing it here. Both are completely booked. We will ask if they are available and if not we will camp. (There ended up not being enough space so we wild camped at the bottom of the hill past elissabetta & pitched tents after sunset because that was the rules for wild camping in ITALY)
If we get into these places, we will get breakfast and maybe dinner. But i wouldnt count on it.
Pass by refuges: Mottets
Night 4 7/13 (DAY TOTAL = 13 MILES)
TOUGH downhill portion (if you have knee problems take Advil lol)
Courmayeaur
We stayed in a hotel
Hotel Maison Saint Jean
Make reservations
Mode of transportation to get off trail?
Breakfast in the morning at hotel… incredible ESPECIALLY THE YOGURT
Many restaurants and grocery stores in courmayeaur
Passy by refuges: Maison Veille
Night 5 7/14 (DAY TOTAL = 17 miles)
7,000 ft of gain….. so buckle up
Le peule camping
Toilets, showers in the refuge

Pass by refuge: Bertone AND Bonatti AND Elena
Bonattie hut- award winning blueberry tart
Night 6 7/15 (DAY TOTAL = 15 miles)
Lots of flat today and a small incline at the end
Champex (les rocailles) camping
Far side of champex
Wifi, showers
15fr/person
15 minute walk to supermarket and restaurants in champex
Pass By refuge: La Lechere
Night 7 7/16 (DAY TOTAL = 12 miles)
Average elevation gain
Le Peuty Camping
Below Trient
20 minute detour
Walk downhill along a winding road until you get to a small, level clearing
4 francs/person
Toilets
5 minute walk to tiny shop selling sandwiches and drinks
Pass by refuge: 1 (amazing cake)
Night 8 7/17 (DAY TOTAL = 12 miles)
Rough incline in the beginning of the day
Auberge la boerne camping
Supermarket
8/person
Small grocery store
Recommended to eat dinner and breakfast at auberge la boerne refuge
Showers, bathrooms, Wifi
35/camper for dinner and breakfast
Also, someone recommended to ask to camp in the meadow by the restaurant connected to the refuge, they will give you dinner, breakfast, and to go lunch
Pass by refuge: Col de Balme
Coffee and cake at refuge
Day 9 7/18 (DAY TOTAL = 10-15 miles)
There are 3 options for day 9
1) take a bus back to Chamonix
2) Walk back up Chamonix
3) Or hike back to Le Houches (recommended)

This was exceptionally good information! Thank you I will be 61yr next year planning with my 38yr niece 🎉.. just letting you know that most in our 60’s can be more fit then the avery20-30 yr olds🔥🔥😆
