In this Horizon: Forbidden West Beginner Guide, I will be sharing with you Tips to Getting Started fextralife.com/horizon-forbid... - And how to make your game experience more pleasant overall! If you are ready to tackle this enormous game and want to know what to do first: Here are the things I wish I knew before playing!. Be mindful that there are some mechanics and other mild spoilers.

Some of the quests weren't immediately obvious on what to do. To point, you will be asked to:
Find all Drones: When you scan a drone, highlight it's flight path with R1 then find a point near a wall and jump onto it - but don't let go! Hold on and weight it down to the ground and you'll then be able to access its innards.
Collect Items in High Places: A specific quest asks you to "Fly up a mountain" - you won't be able to do this until endgame. Equally, you will want to delay collecting the "Signals of the Sun" until you have your flying mount, as it will save you a lot of jumping around and climbing.
Find Black Boxes: These are to be taken to the collector of voices near the Arena. You can identify the black boxes with your radar as you explore, they are always inside large crashed planes.
Get Tags: Rebel Camps don't go away post-game, so you will be able to find these tags at all rebel camps simply by defeating and looting the leader. You don't have to clear out the entire camp, just kill the leader and skip and it'll count as completed!
If you follow these tips, particularly the one about waiting for your flying mount, you should have a much easier time getting around the world and completing many objectives without feeling like you'll be at this for another year. I'm watching playthroughs of the new Horizon West game, and it's the same medicore gameplay/quests/NPCs/boring MC with no RPG choice as the first Horizon. It just has a pretty world with good creature design. It might as well be created by Ubisoft as another AAA open world game not worth more than $20. I'm really looking forward to open world done right with Elden Ring.

I have to disagree with most of what you are saying in this video, but to each their own. Without spoiling anything, side quests have an impact on the main quest. Why you would want to just focus on the main quest and B-line right to the end is beyond me. Really, in any game like this, but side quests influence the main quest is the take away here. Also, swim under water! Don't wait until you are towards the end to go back and do it all, do it asap! Most of the valuable resources are under water! Plus, if you are about to die, just fast travel out!

This bring to another point, you want to get that water breathing gear ASAP, hence one should head down to Vegas first and do the mission before anything.

Sidequests influence the storyline, so it's worth doing a lot of them before progressing.Besides, they will make the storyline a lot easier to tackle because doing a lot of sidemissions, errands and so on will level you up more rapidly.Most storyline missions end with a mini-bossfight (read BIG machines like tremortusks, tideripper, shellsnappers,...).Fighting them at rank 15 will be a huge pain in the ass !!! When you encounter them at rank 40...them big machines and mini-boss fights will be way easier.

Gamer since 1976 here and "completionist" is in my blood. It's a sickness kinda, but I do enjoy the grind of completing a game and often that does mean rinse and repeating areas a lot, but that's how I feel immersed in a game. It can burn many out, but for me, it's the way to play. My play style in many games is stealth. I am very strategy oriented in my game play and for me any skill that enhances my play style of stealth, flank, sneak and surprise etc is the skill tree I knock out first. I have played literally 1,000's of titles in my long life of gaming and HZD is one of my top 10 all time favorite titles I have ever played. Rock on gamers! Never stop.

About the skill tree, obviously depending on your playstyle, really you need to just read each skill tree. Not just focus on combat and hunter. The stealth tree also has important skills early on that you should get. The increased tear from stealth is great for helping you get parts way faster. It also has a flat increase to crit chance I believe which is definitely helpful in combat. And if you're combat style involved traps obviously there's good ones there. So again, just read the early skills and pick a route towards the special ability that suits you.

Did you really have to mention the flying mount? Didn't expect a spoiler in a beginners guide. Wouldn't it have been sufficient to allude to easier traversal to old side quests instead of flat out showing the damn mount on top of mentioning it? FFS.

@@Fextralife To reiterate a key point of my original comment, it would have been sufficient to allude to easier traversal to return to side quests instead of spelling everything out. Even if it is an "integral part of the guide," my statement still holds true. It should have been really easy for you to side-step the mount details.

The first tip is presented in a confusing way :’ Don’t do the main quest only. Don’t do side quests. Do the main quest first. Also do medium to large side quests. ‘ I’m not sure this is good advice.. maybe what you’re trying to say is being exclusively focused on main or side quests will present challenges, but it’s hard to understand how this is a tip. I don’t feel side quests are a burnout they are enjoyable to me. What would be the benefit of doing it the way you’re suggesting, I’m genuinely asking, I feel like doing all side quests of an area while continuing to pursue the main quest in each area works really well.

He's talking about the questions marks mostly. Doing all of them before progressing in the main quest can become tedious and start to hinder your enjoyment of the game. So instead of doing that, wait for endgame to get the flying mount and then complete the question marks that you have left

@@tnyeh if you're playing on the hardest difficulty it's a little complicated. For some question marks like the enemy camps, completing them all gives you a nice reward, but at the same time it can be a pain in the ass. I'd recommend searching on youtube what rewards you get from completing the different type of question marks, and choosing if any of them is worth your time. Regarding side quests i'd say do all of them. Errands can be skipped and salvage contracts too. If you're playing on an easier difficulty i'd say straight up don't do the question marks if you don't want, as later on it feels pretty tiresome. Just follow the main quest and do the side missions

@@tnyeh nono, when you open up the menu you'll see main quests, side quests, jobs, errands, salvage contracts, hunting grounds, melee pit, rebel camps, ancient ruins, etc. Question marks are what appear on the map as question marks, those are things like melee pit, rebel camps, ancient ruins, resting places, etc. Side quests are what appear as side quests in the menu

Bought this last night , can’t promise I’ll play it for mroe than a week before taking an indefinite hiatus ( Elden Ring 🤷‍♂️) but so far it’s awesome . Comparisons aside , it’s pretty , it’s fun, it’s unique ( aside from the first horizon of course lol ) .

Completion is the goal. When zero dawn came out I spent 2 months dedicated to doing everything. This time Elden Ring comes out and I’m not sure which atm will get the lions share of my time.

When you were scrolling through the armor sets talking about upgrades I was tripping out so hard cuz they were all displaying instantly. I gotta wait for every little thing to load when I'm playing. PS4 life lol. Can't wait for the PC release!

There is a skill that let you move faster while holding heavy weapons. It also works with powercells. Good for speed up those puzzle sections.

I think the scavenger plants perk is the most usefull one in a boss arena there are usually blueberrys so having 2 per bush is crucial

Depends how much I like the game. Gonna jump in shortly. Between the next gen cyberpunk upgrade taking me from dying light for a day or two this if it’s really good may take me from both but most likely I’ll play this tonight and then jump back into dying light and give that my attention and focus for the next month or so.

If your having a hard time with the arena i recommend using traps in it yes that sounds bad but it works it can be tricky for some challenges but with some luck you can get everything very early i had green lit at this part

Is there any real benefit to playing Machine Strike? I usually avoid mini-games, I find them confusing and frustrating. But if there is cool loot, tools p,weapons, etc to gain, I will play.

I'm a completionist so I am looking forward to exploring all the ins and outs of the new world. would like more info on the changes in game play from the original, like food and crafting... swimming underwater is new too... excited but a little frustrated that it is not so intuitive as HZD became after completing main game and FW DLC. thank you for the tips.

It's not much different, more in depth, maybe even à little confusing at first but it plays the same. It's even more important to analyse machines first because mist of them are new and almost all of them have some pieces that you need to tear apart before killing them or you lose part of the loot.

Heres my tip: max out the trap valor surge first. Lay your traps, lure the enemy over, and proc the surge. I was able to kill some hard enemies very early with the traps and remote mines. Best early game surge.

1) So, besides the enjoyment of problem solving, what do you benefit from by playing Machine Strike? i.e. Is it a distraction, or a progression enabler? 2) How do you craft potions at Workbench (Other than Small Health Potion)? I thought you were supposed to be able to purchase them from Herbalists: 2a) From whom. (Not found one to buy yet). 2b) Once you buy a potion does that enable you to craft it as well? (Have not done Embassy main quest yet. Failed at first attempt) Edit: Can confirm 2b works with bought Cleanse Potion at Herbalist in Barren Light

Will try to address these... 1) I've only just completed the 3 beginner opponents, but extra shards for winning and skill points seem like the main reason to dive into it. I'm assuming playing every Strike opponent factors into maxing out all the skill trees, but I'll have to wait and see on that I guess. So at worst it's a distraction and at best, as far as I can tell, it's some extra currency and skills. 2) I haven't crafted at a bench, but I've crafted in the field which I would think is the same thing. If you're unable to craft, it could be that your potion capacity is maxed out (I think you start out with space for 5 if I'm remembering right). It took me a while to realize that I couldn't craft the medium or higher health potions because my pack was filled with the small potions. If that's what's causing the issue you can use your stash to store potions to make room for whatever you want to purchase or craft. 2 a/b) You can purchase potions, just gotta find the vendors in different towns/settlements. Off the top of my head, there's a vendor way up top in Plainsong for example that sells health potions. The other crafting recipes I've unlocked so far (better health potions, and various different bomb traps for example) were all from finding those items out in the world.

For once I had to down vote a fextralife video. I CANNOT believe you spoiled flight without a warning. It completely ruined the moment when I finally did get it towards the end of the game. And that's my biggest gripe. You unlock this ability at the END of the game's story. I watched this just as I was starting out because "Beginner Guide" meant maybe learning something useful. Having that lead up to what was supposed to be a really amazing story beat was killed to the point of numbness. PLEASE do not do this again. This was probably the worst mistake I've ever made when it comes to game enjoyment.

Gonna have to disagree with most of this. If you wait till the end to do the side content, everything you get will be worthless to you. You'll get nothing but a little plot. Also there's more dialogue in all the main quests if you did the side stuff first. Also, most of the content is level appropriate combat, climbing and jumping puzzles. If you just fly everywhere and one shot everything with endgame gear, it'll be incredibly boring, because you skipped most of the game play. The only story quest I'd suggest you rush to is Sea of Sand, as the rewards from the underwater sections are used to upgrade midgame equipment. If you already moved on to endgame then it's fairly useless. And hiding underwater until the machines go away is a great way to escape.

You are spoiling WAY more than you need to. 1 minute in and you're spoiling late game shit like flying mounts. Some spoilers is to be expected, but you're doing it in excess, so this video is utterly unusable since I don't dare watch more. This could have been done more more discreetly. Big disappointment - you've done much better videos before and I thought I'd enjoy some basic tips and trix that I might have missed. Now I'm just annoyed you showed stuff you didn't have to, especially not that early in the video.

Seems more complicated than zero dawn. Still pursuing platinum at this time. Waiting for my copy of forbidden west on disk. Sony seems more money grubby at this point in time. Ps4 games won't work on ps5 console without disk. Ps+ issue. Not to mention scalpers co-opting with Sony through kickbacks for ps5 consoles that cannot be had unless bought for twice retail. Sad world we live in. Peace with Jesus.

The first tip is don't waste your time on this garbage game. Beautiful graphics don't make up for the trash the rest of the game brings.🤣🤣

If somebody doesn't know that this is a spoiler already then I don't know what to tell you but the best thing the best tip for somebody is to speed through the story as fast as you can because once you beat the game and you start new game plus you can keep just about everything you already had and then all you have to do is find one of those flying mounts so you could take it over and then you can literally fly to every mission it makes the game so much easier and so much faster to do all the side content and then all the main missions on a second round 2 New game Plus it's just a game is so much more enjoyable with a flying Mount I don't know why they make you wait so long it's literally like the very end of the game you finally get the flying mount
