I love how she explains everything. I'm a established guitar player, I watch these videos to help me teach my own students. Love how you explain things. Thank you.
After 50 year playing I still feel it's great to brush up on the basics. The power chord, (also known as the 5 chord (A5, D5, etc) is a great way to play what I like to call economic fingering) allows you to stay within 4 frets of any given chord progression. Really helpful when there are dozens of chords in a given measure, by playing the chords on the higher octaves as well as the lower.
this is unintentional ASMR for me, I get the chills and tingles the minute you start talking. But the main reason I'm here is to be as good as you at guitar. thanks for being awesome
Ayla, you are awesome. I've trained thousands how to use computers. Hired my own staff years ago. I would have hired you in a heartbeat. Just awed by your expertise, positive nature, and upbeat clean humility in teaching guitar. As a beginner of 6+ months I have come to rely on a few Internet guitar superstars. You are now one of them :) Thank you so much.
It would have been a game changer if I had you as my teacher when I was younger. I've learned so much, at a pace I'm very comfortable with & the approach has me actually waking up wanting to practice.
Best way to learn chords is take a simple song sing along with recorded version in the same key, capo if required, this gives you tempo, rhythm and bonus it’s lot of fun to sing along with your favs, pick simple chords and repeat until perfect! This is best way to learn!
Dear heart not only are you a great artist you are one fantastic teacher and how right you are, learn, practice, practice and as the beatles John lennon once sang I've got blisters on my fingers. Rock on sweetie. Mitch.
Love these videos! Ayla is really teaching me how to improve. Now I need some work on my guitar.. the fretboard has contracted over time and my frets are little razors to avoid.. live in Colorado and yes we get snow and rain.. but it is still semi-arid and wood can dry out even with humidifiers.. but thank you Kayla! Frank from Boulder, Colorado, US
Eddie Van Halen is the only one person I know that had a third hand when playing guitar. 😊 Though I'm doing pretty well on chords, I found this to be an interesting video. The best thing you said to help people struggling is that this is not easy at first and it can take some time to play chords and chord changes well. Practice and time are always your best friends when learning how to play guitar. 🎸🎸🎸
Blues brother, Ayla's videos are new to me, and very impressive. I'm considering beginning guitar after many years off. Each session begins with frustration, then a song or two returns and it's fun. Borrowing a Les Paul to try out. 😎
@@frankboyd. Hey Frank, I've known Ayla's guitar playing since she was around 15 years old. She used to call her YT channel Ayla Guitar. What I've always liked about her playing is the feeling she puts in her music. Check out her cover of LZ's Since I've Been Loving You; she plays it beautifully on a beautiful LP. Ayla is one of the best young guitarists and a very good guitar teacher. A few others that I've found to be helpful are Super Easy Guitar (John Lee Blackmore), Song Bike (Jonathan Kehew) and Justinguitar (he has a free guitar course funded by whatever you can pay). Guitar is about a lot of practice and time. Keep working on it without the expectation that you will get it really fast. Do hand exercises to build strength and stretch and don't be afraid to not play songs that don't work best for you. A good guitar that fits you is important too. Be advised that LP's are often very heavy. They can be around 10 lbs, but they do sell some chambered models. The ES-335 style guitar is a lighter weight semi-hollow body guitar that's great for blues and rock, and there are plenty of good budget models out there.
I'm already pretty advanced in my guitar playing, but I really enjoy watching you Ayla. You just seem so lovely and really relaxing. Keep up the great videos.
You will! I am in the same boat regarding B7 now (fingers not always land precisely where they should be), but I remember the frustration 4 or 5 months ago when I was practicing changing from C to G (full G with 4 fingers)--the pinky and the ring fingers just wouldn't listen to the mind. But I kept playing Knockin' on Heaven's Door in G for a full month. Now I can do it with eyes closed or in the dark. And I am about to cross the barre: the F chord, which sounds pretty good but I am still not swift in changing to it. Again, I have been just playing Bob Dylan's Blowin' in the Wind and Most of the Time, the latter of two especially, just C to F or Am to F throughout. Keep at it!
You rock, thank you so much. I have heard this many times in my tiny year of playing acoustic, but you nailed it and delivered it in a fashion that resonated with me. I got so much from this, and its made a terrific difference. Thank You. 🙏❤ Oh, and now I’m learning Lola😀
I've been playing for 20 years - still can't reliably hit B or B7. For B, the 'transpose' button on tab sheets is my friend :D but B7 is so awesome that I refuse to avoid using it, so now whenever I play something bluesy/jazzy, there's always a quiet lull while I work out where the hell my fingers are supposed to be, ha. :)
These tips are helpful. My biggest challenge in this area is the intro to the song, Love's Holiday by Earth, Wind & Fire. They're $20 chords played at quarter note timing!
Always enjoy your videos! Nice to see a Fender acoustic. I have a red Malibu. When I first pick up the guitar I can do pretty well on chord changes but then over time it starts to get sloppy (like on D sometimes I'll just slide the high e string right off the fretboard). I guess I need to head to the finger gym (or maybe put 10s on instead of 11s). Dminor and 3-string B minor are ones where I have trouble landing on them consistently. my index finger has the trigger finger problem so I haven't been able to barre with it.
Hey dear I just bought a guitar that looks just like yours only mine is blonde on the top and has a mahogany back I sure like the way mine plays and mine is a cut away yeah I like what you do I’m glad you teach that’s a good thing to be doing thank you much have a great day I’ll give you a thumbs up for what you do
LOL! Talented, funny, and a great instructor as well! "My name is Ayla. Your name is not Ayla." That made me chuckle. "Niecho. Pronounced like NEE'ko, a nickname for Nicholas. A pleasure to meet you! I'll be signing up for Guitareo lessons I am sure within a month-ish!" I've noticed watching videos of others starting to learn, I'm noticing things just to watch out for myself such as transitions, keeping the rhythm / strumming steady even if it takes my fret hand a bit to catch up, etc. You seriously inspire your viewers to think they CAN do this. Well done!
hello beautiful !! I am sooooo happy I found you! your a woman guitar teacher! I have been learning from men as a beginner this last year as they are the most popular on youtube and you make it 10000 times better to learn, Go Woman Power !! I love love love your channel already ...fantastic lessons and great delivery... xxx
So good to see a woman teaching here! Im a girl and I really find it difficult to find womens teaching most guitar things here, thank you so much! - Mordecai
Nice girl. Interesting to watch but I'd have appreciated a closer up view of the individual chords, being a beginner with just 2 chords to my name. Your accent is perfect and you are a pleasure to listen to. I'm dying of covid right now but will try to play what I think I saw you doing, and before I'm buried maybe achieve just another step towards doing what my neighbour Gary Moore did before departing this week already many years ago.
Hi Ayla, glad I watched. I wouldn't have guessed Lola was that simple to play! And, now I can replace those icky barre chords with power chords!! Yippee!! I like your guitar, I have an identical one in candy apple red, plus I have the next size up (champaign color) from the series 🎸
Hey I like your teaching,i lost my index finger awhile back in the eighths the last four years I have picked up the guitar, I found playing in A format I play C cord 5fret D,7fret and so on.And as writing my own songs
I wish you success despite your loss. I know you will still sound good as its the heart that comes through and not some triviality such as fingers Patience is the first step. 🤞👍
the hardest for me is when i change between barre chords, I can't avoid sliding thru the strings and make this horrible noise. I'm not great w/ barre chords in isolation either but I'm working on it.
Making some noise when sliding between bar chords is not only acceptable but part of the charm of the guitar sound. A bit of muscle memory will eventually let you move between them with no more than the usual sound.
The way she talks makes you think that at any moment she is gonna start to sing a love song. lol. ps. she is the best guitar teacher I have seen in youtube so far.
