Just wondering, how much land did you get for free?

Huge amounts of land in the UK is *owned* but is unregistered, because back in the mid-1800s when the Land Registry was created, the aristos who owned (and still own) most of the UK had an exemption put in: land that had not recently changed hands in sale did / does not have to be registered!

I've got the book and it's very good. I haven't actually claimed any unowned land (mostly because I'm a lazy bastard and there isn't any unowned land near me!), but if I wanted to, I'd definitely start with your book. It's very clear and comprehensive about what you have to do.

Obviously the more people do this the more chance there is that 2 people try to take adverse possession of the same land at the same time. Plus ... you need to show you are taking care of the land (putting up fences etc.) and if it all falls through you can be out of pocket. That and the claims take many years (4? 10?) to go through, and until then it's not "your land". For those that want some land etc. the best way to is to save up, find a few plots of land that you'd like and then use land registry to get owner details and get in touch with them and make them an offer. Of course, they'll want to know what you want the land ... but this is normally much cheaper than searching "online" for land for sale (which has got even more expensive recently, mostly due to COVID and people wanting to "give up the rat race", I think!).

If u Find a bit of land in UK and has no ownerthey have passed and no family I know the state can claim it so what happens if after u have been there say a year or two and the state realise and want to take the land 😰🇬🇧

Seems like a difficult task as you have to prove you have used the land, for yourself, for 12 years minimum and even then you could find the land belongs to a trust. foundation council or others and the work prior to this has been for nothing!

wait so this bona la cansia thing... does this mean that over time all this unowned land will eventually as people and families die out over time will eventually be funneled into the crown's possession? and the land registry only goes back as far as 1990? so by 2190 everyone who had owned unregistered land will be dead and the crown can take it all? thats sneaky if true

Land registry has closed. It's a new system as of a few days ago.
