From what i've seen is the number one reason people succeed or fail at ebay is their own effort and confidence. I lost my job as covid hit and had dabbled into ebay here and there previously and had to come up with some way to provide for my family or we would be homeless and starve simple as that. I used the little savings i had and credit cards to get started with inventory and dived in as an everything seller until i niched into catergorys i personally enjoy and had knowledge of since i collect in those same catergories and only needed to expand. In just two years time i'm running 25k in sales per month. 70% profit. Making more at this than i could have ever made in the past at any job while working currently less than 40 hours a week. It comes down to how bad you want it and the effort you put in. When i started i was working 19-20 hour days 7 days a week to get this set up to the point where it is now. If you want something bad enough or are unhappy with your situation then dont complain and do something about it. Such a simple concept that people fail to do.
Wow! what are you selling and how do you list it so fast? $17,500 net profit!? $200k/year! I think you're the one that needs to make how-to RU-vid videos haha!
@@wheelindealin160 He also got 20 hours of sleep total per business week. Awful advice. I call total bs. Waking up at 5am is plenty. After two weeks of that sleep schedule you absolutely burn out, even with the most amphetamines you could possibly pump in to your system, that crash would be un sustainable. Such an odd flex. Anybody saying "70% profit" straight is full of it. Margins are going to vary significantly based on type of item, and he surely didn't have enough 90% margin items to balance out the 30% ones inevitable in reselling. Round Two doesn't make those margins besides the few premium grails. I guarantee they're successful, doing well. Just nothing like they've stated. Written like a high school teen.
@Optable haha yeah I think ALOT of resellers are like fisherman , embellishing their success. Bought a shirt on clearance for $5 sold it for $18.99 ( which is crazy , most shirts won't even get views at that price) with a 10% promotion rate and fees and shipping , there was a $2 profit..... Even if you sold 20 of those in a day ( which won't happen) , thats $40 , which won't pay any bills lol Not saying it's impossible to make higher margins , but those opportunities are few and far , especially when sourcing from other people's donations and junk.
80s and 90s Nostalgia has been selling well for me. I have 1,800+ active and 6 years reselling full-time. Flipping on ebay is a Marathon not a sprint. The main thing is to start then you will learn as you go.
@@timothywong4318 fantastic! Keep Up the great work ! I have no idea how Amazon works but it seems as thou people make good money doing it. Congrats on 1200 listings !
Just a bit on listing. I really have only been running my store seriously for a few months. Don't be put off when you are new. It may take you 20 minutes to list something to begin with. Hell I think it took me 30. You may think "God I will never get down to under 5 minutes". But you will. Just keep listing, update your templates, periodically, with everything you do over and over again. After a few weeks you can list in your sleep. Just make sure you update the templates. If you find yourself writing the same thing over and over again, pop it in the template.
For those of us who sell items that sit for a while, like clothes, realize that you are really running a warehouse operation. I had to move my business into a rental space in order to grow. Now I have enough space to at least quadruple the size. Efficiently storing my mostly clothing inventory really makes a big difference.
I love your videos! You are so right about tracking what you make per hour! Had a conversation with my co-worker today about going part time at my job to put more into my reselling. She tried her hardest to tell me that reselling will fail. It will not go anywhere. I pointed out $9,000 in 2020, $27,000 in 2021 (triple the yr before), and I am currently up 43.8% over first quarter 2021. At that rate I will double that 2021 total of $27,000 in 2022. I also do Instacart when I am in free time and out shopping or waiting on kids or whatever, and I use them for Insurance because my job does not carry Ins and eBay don't offer insurance, LOL. Being the positive person of what I want, I broke it down to her like this, and she didn't know what to say: Full-time job $18.75 per hour (MBA...I should be making way more than that), no benefits (in five years I have been paid for a vacation 3 times & one was 3 days (the first yr I started) and two was 1 day each (both last year) any other days off I have either used banked hours (which came from being called when I was off and having to contact employees or look for placement for employees who quit or was needed immediately) or I have not been paid at all. One time I was paid for sick days, and that was only because I got sick, the boss required me to test negative for the C-19 before returning to work, I had already worked the whole week prior being sick (he did not care cause he was not there) and I refused to take a test because I had already gotten over the sickness & already knew if I had it I could test positive for up to 90 days AND I WAS ALREADY OUT OF THE 10 DAYS REQUIRED QUARANTINE WHEN HE MADE ME TAKE IT) FYI I did take it cause he made me stay off for the whole week until I tested and it was negative. I got paid only because I told him it was wrong him and his wife both came to work sick and they didn't go get tested cause they had gotten all the shots. I get weekly payroll hours when submitted and his wife (yes she is an employee & the other co-worker are paid for any days they take off (the co-worker is off three or four weeks a year..she has only worked 1 yr longer than me), The wife just started 8 months ago. The co-worker was paid for a month while vacationing plus 3 additional weeks 2 yrs ago. Reselling: Average $56 per hour (I figure it up monthly so it can be higher or slightly lower), benefits of I can do it on my own time, no boss, I work as little or as much as I need, I am still making money on my 3 tiny weekend vacas each yr, I can work two weeks a month (if we just consider hours time) and make as much as I do working full time at a desk job, I can go out and enjoy life while sourcing and making money. FYI going full time I would put more into it than the two weeks. Instacart: Average $25-30 per hour, I get health, dental, and vision ins, plus 401K, I can do it as little or as much as I want, I GET TO WALK AROUND AND DO LIFTING FOR EXERCISE....something I do not get sitting at a desk 8 hours a day. So not only do I get financially benefited, I also get health and lifestyle benefits!
When you do quit and take up reselling full time... be prepared to feel the "real freedom" that you thought you always had. I quit a hospital job and construction to start a solo landscaping business for summer and took my ebay to a new level when I found Chris(TY bro). My feeling of freedom and mental state have never been better and I have so many options to better myself. I helped push a couple friends to do the same with different businesses... they always talk about the freedom and new mind set they have. Just work hard... Good luck and get ready live!
@@nikkiflippy007 Still at my job, but working toward making sure I am secure before going full time. My plan at the moment is to be there at beginning of the year. I almost have everything in place for the comfort of that new journey.
The consistant listing does work! I just got back on ebay after a 7 year break. Started from zero. Started listing 5 a day. Only have 35 items listed so far from the last 7 days. I got 5 sales over the weekend. Cost of items $5 total. But I made $122 off those items. I'm just droning on. I made a huge liquidation order yesterday. It will be here Wednesday and its manifested. Already started listing items.amd they will go live the day the stuff comes in. Let'S GO!!!!!
Wow, this vid was choc full of tips and I have taken so much from it, that I most certainly will apply. The Consistency tip was the most important to me. Thanks for inspiring and motivating us, in each and every vid in someway.👍🏾😁
Been doing this now for 4 weeks after losing my job. Selling stuff from around the house to learn. YOU GOTTA JUST DO IT! List List List. If you don't, nothing will sell.
This is the first video i watch from you and i completely understand and feel everything you talked about, especialy tip#7 "take responsibility for everything" 11:45 because i resently adopted that mentality hearing it from Hamza and Adrew Tate and you could say it has given me some more peace of mind. Also tip#10 16:41 is very important, i have started to give less attention to friends and people that i know are holding me back, not that they are bad or they are doing it on purpose but unfortunately they can not keep up with me. I know it seems cruel and i dont feel good about it but its something that must be done for my own growth
I love the "make everything your fault" theory. It is exceptional - I try to do that in a different way but it allows you to become empowered and emboldened. I spent so many years unintentionally with a victim mentality - it was so freeing to throw that off. We are such powerful and creative beings but society does not want us to know or understand and thus is teaches us that we are subject to the will of others and have no say in our way. Thank you for including this in your business teaching. I believe this is possibly the key to what makes a "successful" person. It should be taught in every entrepreneurial class. By accepting the fault we can make the adjustment. 💯
I switched to shoes and it was the best for my store. I went from $32 average sale to $44. I do sell in 8 categories but focus on shoes in the beginning
Chris don't forget you are very experienced at doing your listings an in experience person will take longer to figure out what works for them . This is true for any new job a person takes on. The company I used to work for a person could go through training but they were not fully trained for 6 months to a year.
I will say I'm just now learning about reselling and I have this fire to learn as much as I can, already started going to yard sales looking at thrift stores and scaling fb marketplace. Im watching lots of videos of pickers and resellers, and in the 2 videos ive watched of you Ive learned so much. Thank you, Im excited to see what comes of this year
Honestly I think the hardest thing about re-selling is finding good inventory that WILL sell and can be purchased at a price that leaves room to make a profit. I have no idea how to get 10 items a day like that to even list.
Great tips, I’ve been selling things that I’ve had sitting around, collectors have been showing interest and some have bought from me multiple times. Always enjoy your videos!
Thank u Chris I been selling full time for 3 yrs , and todays video was spot on! We all know u put in the work! Also I try to be friends with resellers that are smaller than me and help them and also be friends with resellers that make me look small and learn from them . Thanks for all u do for the Reselling Family 🙏
10,000 hrs would be expert level and that has been something that is an idea that has been repeated but not 100% true. (Search Ted talk regarding the 10,000 hour rule) This would be true if you wanted to be at the top level of whatever you are doing but to do this full time I don't think you need to achieve the top level of reselling knowledge. If you want to become highly effective and efficient at reselling then I would consider Pareto's law/principal or the 80/20 rule is a better guide for someone looking to go full time. What 20% action/input do you need to (understand, know, do, source) to drive 80% of your results? You may find that the ratios vary but generally speaking they can be 10 to 30% and 90 to 70% output. The point being is to, just like Chris said, focus in on the important things. Identify and remove all the unnecessary and unproductive time sinks so that you are as efficient as possible.
I have a friend who loves the thrill of the chase as far as sourcing goes but then hates the rest (photos, listing, shipping) so has a HUGE death pile. Do you have any advise as to how to get her motivated and get her booty in gear?!
1) Understand or have a "why?" Why are they doing it? Is there a goal that they have in mind that they started doing it in the first place? To eventually buy a home? To quit their job? To afford a vacation? If they already had a why, and they still aren't doing it, then maybe the why isn't strong enough and not important enough to them. They either then need to find a new why or just quit altogether, since there isn't a strong enough reason for them to be doing it. 2) Start with a few items at a time. Grab 10 off the pile, turn their back to the pile and do those 10, start to finish. They will never accomplish anything and continue to be discouraged if they think all about how much work it's going to do in order to knock the entire pile out. Do it a little at a time. Even if it's just one item. Once you do one item, you're already in motion, so it's easier to keep with the flow and do one piece, then the next piece and the next piece...
Hi Ashley, your friend is lucky that you care so much to ask. I'm curious about the hate. How much hate on 1-10. Ask her that. Hate not all the same. Some is fear-hate. Other can be imposter-hate. It likely isn't all hate-hate. I tutored 2 adults in algebra. Both hated math. One had fear hate. I got more out of her. Both passed their classes. Success is always possible. Target the problem.
And there are LOTS of ways she can get to success. She has passion. The next step is important. I don't mind death piles. Try to get her to expand on her love of sourcing and she might be able to tell you more about why she stops there. You can help her.
Hi Chris, I started with sports cards and moved to an everything store, but now I am 90% clothing. I would like to get back into cards I’m thinking 80/20 split clothing/cards or should I start a new store dedicated to cards and keep my bigger store (goal is 30/30/30 in clothing) ?
I went the other way. Started with all clothes then moved into cards/games and anime merch (mostly signs postcards). Clothes take a lot of space. Cards are value dense. I just stopped buying and posting new clothes. Kept up existing clothes listings till sold
Loving your content and ethos. Be humble and keep learning. You are crushing it but are super-humble and still loving the opportunity to learn more. Thanks for sharing the wisdom.
is it good idea to list different category products in one ebay shop? Like I have toys, cosmetics, cloths to sell. Can I list all these different product into ONE EBAY SHOP? Is it good idea or keep selling cosmetics only in one ebay shop and dont sell cloths??Please advice, thank you
I am just starting and have listed over 190 items. No sales. Zilch. Zero. Ive had some lookielews, one or 2 watchers and thats it. I try to have a little of a variety of items. Ive tried listing 10 items a day. No rewards from ebay support..so far i havnt made much of anything plus ebay is holding my money for SEVERAL weeks!!!! Whats up with that? I wish i could sell two items per day!! I cant keep buying if im not selling. Plus i have health problems and i cant constantly list 10 items a day. Its a lot of work plus what i type in on the details disappears and i have to retype it in again and again. I have the postoffice print my labels. My printer quit on me. Ya know i could see selling even just one item every once in a while. Its been ZERO!!!!!!! And i have some nicer items. Those i put on auction. Others are buy it now. Im not sure what to do.
Great advice I live by some of these rules and I learned a lot too!! I just my eBay business last month ..I made some sales and I’m trying to keep it Goin appreciate all the content and positive energy.I wish every eBay buyer or seller buyer out there good luck 🍀 let get it
A business that becomes a substantial income source, the term for that is probably "a going concern." Or, at least, that's a term closer in meaning for this context.
It helps to know what you profit on each item sold This way you can know what you can spend in buying inventories I not to spend more than you are earning
Word is getting out that I sell clothes with friends and family. They want me to do consignment for them. Do you do this? How do you make it work for everyone? Thank you!
First of all i love all your vids! Been following for a while. Started my ebay business about a month ago, im listing about 15 items per day and i sell right around 3 items per day. Only got about 280 items in my store so far. Im in hawaii, what do you think would give me an advantage niche authority to resell on ebay? Thanks again!
Chris your stuff is awesome. We are somewhat new at this. Few months in and are doing an average of 2 sales a day with 190 items listed. Where do we find out what are the right items are needed! Do you have a list or video? Ty!
Question- I invested $20, and got a couple shirts and a jacket for reselling. So far I’ve sold 1 shirt, made $8 profit….. should I wait to sell every item first then use the profit to buy more or use the profits I get asap to buy more as they come through? Thanks
I don't have room for inventory, would it be okay to just run my business out of my home till I see that I am making it work then move to a storage unit.
Hey sir, I’m a new subscriber and I started selling a month ago. I’ve been selling stuff from my house and have had inconsistent listing and haven’t had much sell, should I start opening up inventory and start buying stuff to grow my store? My current store consist of clothes and bags totaling 15.
Great video and a great mind set to have on all points. I am still learning this many things about reselling but I am always willing take responsibility and fine tune what I am doing in anything.
For a beginner would you recommend thank you business cards included? And if so, would you recommend including a give feedback/review on the thank you card?🤔
You can, sure, to get feedback up. But I wouldn't push for it. Sometimes no feedback is good feedback. There have been times where a customer is pushed for feedback and it just results in a negative and now you have to deal with having a negative removed. So...maybe say something like if they enjoyed their purchasing experience or their item, we'd love to hear back from you by giving us a good rating or positive feedback. Simple. If they do, fine. If not, just move on to the next sale.
@@biffboffo ^^^^This. I've received more positive feedback stating "Wow! Arrived super fast!" Or "Received earlier than expected!!" More so than the positive feedbacks thanking me for a hand-written card. Go above and beyond with your service and the positive feedbacks will follow.
Great point about geographical niches! Locally, I find golfing items, Denver Broncos items, Harley Davidson, & Pro Rodeo stuff and western wear. I consider them ALL my bread and butter even though vintage jewelry and accessories is my favorite niche.
I started from day 1 sending a thank you note and asking for positive feedback or to contact me if they aren't completely happy. I get about 40% feedback.
For almost two years I hand wrote the thank-you on the packing list. That got super old! I just created and ordered 1000 Thank You post cards to make that whole process a little easier. I spend the money to try to divert complaints more so than the thank you, but it serves both purposes.
