10 Types of Roleplayers in FFXIV 

My RP character- no tragedy in the past. Became an adventurer by accident because she can’t say no when someone asks for help. She is a bright ray of sunshine and happiness who just does not understand negativity and is innocent and clueless to a fault. Playing this character has actually made me a better person in real life because for hours a night I am forced to find the most joyful option even if someone is being toxic and it has started to bleed into real life.

You forgot type 11: The face character! People who role play as well known NPC's. They are either a joy or a curse...

You forget the most dangerous roleplayer... The Lalafell. As a Lala rper, it is our solemn duty to cause as much chaos as possible.

You forgot one. The D&Der. They've played RPGs for years (or decades) and do up backstories, motivations, fears and dislikes and family trees. They may have made alts for important characters in their main's backstory. They'll not dip into the RPing they'll do a full swan dive like they're auditioning for Hollywood. They will complain about the bland taste of healing potions... I know. I am one.

Being a male thighlander with gray hair, I usually roleplay as a grandpa thighlander who's way too enthusiastically into fitness and always try and get people to workout and improve their lives. Because of me, nearly all of my FC mates and buddies are constantly talking about fitness or do any of the Squadron workout emotes whenever they see me in-game now. One of them even dedicated their FC Room to creating a gym for me. It's been like this for nearly 2 years now. Some even started going to the gym or picked up physical activities IRL and they would always gleefully tell me about it on Discord whenever they did it. I had a rough past and hitting the gym was the catalyst that turned my life around. Since then, working out became a lifestyle and it has helped me so much that it's almost second nature to me now. I can literally say, with absolutely seriousness, that hitting the gym has turned my life around for the better. It also molded my personality into something more charismatic and confident and, because of how immersive FF14 is, I projected that personality into my character. I first started doing it because I found it funny and entertaining, but after realizing how much my extraverted personality could affect others and how much of a positive impact I had on some people, I ended up falling in love with RPing as a Fitness Grandpa. I simply wanted to share this little story. For some people, RPing in the game is just a fun way to pass time. For others, it can nearly change their lives. You are, at the end of the day, interacting with other real people online and making a real impact on their emotions. I will forever continue to play up this online persona because I know I can do some good and that brings me more joy than anything in the world. Sure, I've ran into my fair share of people who find it annoying because, for some reasons, a lot of people are extremely pessimistic towards anyone who enjoys talking about their hobbies. Especially when said hobby happens to be working out. But I don't care, I just move on. I know I'm helping some people out there and that's what matters. Edit: I should probably mention that no, I'm not a grandpa IRL. Just hit my 30s. I simply absolutely love the idea of an elder still working the weights at an old age. It's like spitting in the face of time, going against all odds, defying the rule that old people should be weak and brittle, taking human willpower to the next level and staying strong even with Death knocking at your door, I think that's incredibly badass and something I strive to be IRL as well. Every time I run into an older person at the gym, I always feel so much respect for them.

It's okay to have preferences, it only becomes a problem when you impose those preferences on other players. Words to live by.

Can we agree to just lock all the WoL types in Abyssos along with the creeps? Let them RP their hearts out with Carby.

Fun thing, my friend group has our own RP Canon. When our sprout friend made it to Shadowbringers, two of us roleplayed as our "first" counterparts and played through the whole expansion building a narrative alongside the Canon story of the expansion. It was actually really fun and I'd suggest it to others as well, especially if you're doing a newgame+ playthrough.

Not ashamed to admit that I am to a degree an elitist. But I'll be the first to say - It's very important for any type to surround yourself with like minded individuals when RPing, and treat each other kindly! Is just a game and fun as you said!

The best part of working at a roleplay venue is how many different people you get to talk to. You get to hear so many interesting character stories, try out so many different types of RP, and get to help new RPers break into the scene. I personally work as a bartender and it is one of the best times I've ever had doing RP. Customers usually come to the bar because they want to either RP and don't have anyone to go out with, or they are new and want to check out the scene. Either way, the interactions are usually very fun and rewarding./

I would love to try and step into the rp scene in ff14. I’m so anxious of people but I love to make new friends and I would love my WoL Au’Ra to make friends. I am still new to the game but it’s such a wonderful experience.

I've always been a heavy battle content player for the years ive played, but lately ive met some people that have opened me up to the CASUAL RP scene (mostly visiting venues they work at and just sitting at a cafe). Since then, I've met the best of people. Yeah there's weird shit, but overall its not as bad as people make it sound

This is very accurate, I chuckled at the creep one (And a male au ra playing the creep is clever!) I am a veteran rper from WoW since Burning Crusade, then left from BfA to explore FFXIV. Never went back to wow after that. I am the Pillar flower, not because I am shy or anything, but because It's hard to engage with someone without them being either a erper, one show host or an elitist. Am the type of rper that has been through DnD campigns, being dm host in wow and creating stories. Just want to give out a good storytelling for other rpers to enjoy and build there characters. Unfortunately, there isn't really a good group of rpers that have that sort of mindsent, everywhere I see are copy and paste of generic brothels, nightclubs, and Venues... To me i find venues or erping unenjoyable, it's not really rp when your dancing the bees kness for 4-6 hours without talking to a person. Maybe I havn't looked hard enough back then? In any case, there is that no lack thereof and thought I would give up finding rp. Surprisingly, am now running as guild leader and DM for my FC. We have our own campign and is still going strong, am quite happy were I am now and have good friends that I can trust to thank for that.

Venue Worker here! I adore being able to interact with people who are big into RP, or are just interested I'm exploring! It's wonderful to see the varying degrees of RP people!

Clubber here, seems pretty accurate. I didn't really start out as an RPer but clubbing exposed me to RP in a relatively relaxed and fun fashion that made the whole clubbing experience even more fun! I even learned a bit of enhanced roleplay that way, for research purposes of course! (from a Mentor at that! what a game!)

11: The social butterfly (me). The one who goes to venues and just start saying hi and /dote everyone just because. 12: The Asshole: The one who gets joy out of making other RPers miserable. emote spamming/chat spamming/stalking/etc. 13: The musicians: everywhere they go, they pull out an instrument and play random songs or look around for venues with open stages to play on.

My friend has a joke character on Black Mage that's a male roegadyn, max height, wielding one of the smallest wands the job has access to (we call it a pen), and we have decided to paint him as this force of nature that appears and vanishes on a whim, teaching us ignorant disciples the magic of arcana. A summoner, a Red Mage, and a Scholar, all disciples of this cryptid, sage entity. It just so happens that my Scholar glamour has the same robe as he once did, so we headcanon that he handed it down to me after he shrunk it in the laundry and it no longer fit him. That's the best kind of roleplay if you ask me.

I'm definitely guilty of being a mix between the Pillar and Clubber, though it's mainly because I have adhd and I need that other source of something going on while I'm working on my books. The RP itself has been a fantastic boon for me since it's allowed me to improve my writing and see so many different writing styles as well as adapt to where the stories go.

As a new player who has really enjoyed RP-ing as a bartender in VRChat, the idea of being one in FFXIV is so appealing and fun in a way i cannot describe.

I dealt with a 'Creep' type female roleplayer earlier this year, and oh boy was it just... a lot. She was constantly talking about how she thought I was such a great guy IRL and she was super into me and she just wishes she could meet a guy who's into long distance relationships, but also she thinks my character is super hot and by the way here's a wall of text ERP emote on Discord out of nowhere and I'm just sitting there thinking "could our characters just meet and have coffee or go on a little adventure first, without anything about either of us IRL?" Passive-aggressive messages when I joined an FC other than their own, or if any characters were around my own with him targeted, and just... yeah.

Once upon a time, I visited a house in the Mist that had a special room for the WoL. The FC that owned it used "Warrior of Light" as a rotating referee position for their RPs. If you were that day's WoL, you had to sit your character is this tiny closet of a room, where your chat was visible but you weren't. You couldn't speak directly in the RP, but you got to decide what was and wasn't canon that day. I didn't hang out with them long enough to see it in practice, but it was . . . interesting, to say the least.

That was.. enlightening in some ways that I haven't expected hahahah As a crystal player not very involved in RP, I always find amusing when people interact with me. It's fun to know there are many other ways to enjoy a game I love.

my character Ashelia has been through hell. but she doesn't dump it on people. in fact she's very closed off about her past. if asked she shuts tighter than a clam on the matter. she's an adventurer to try and get strong enough to free the land she rules by birthright. of course she's also got her dotharl blood making her a spitfire. not to mention she's made many friends and developed a very complex network for intel. over her time adventuring she's picked up quite a few skillsets too. though her big gripe is the horrid taste of healing potions

As a venue roleplayer from time to time, it's essentially nice to set a less intimidating backdrop so people coming feel like they're not challenged and can relax in an authentic setting. More often than not, things will eventually drop an occasional pissing contest in terms of power or backstory, so having a chill bartender or barista to listen to you and commentate is an experience a lot of people enjoy. Some venues will use venue staff as a front to show off the owner's "super cool edgy" plot hooks, but people are usually around for the bubbly bartender.

Am guilty of the second one. I often just show up at the quick sand, sit down at a table alone, sometimes use a few emotes within minutes of spacing (Using that time to relax and watch some youtube as well) and if nothing interesting happens after X time or nobody thinks to at least ask me the weather, I just up and leave, this while staying in character. (To be fair, I'm shy and an introvert IRL as well, so it's an issue that drips into RP sadly.) 5th one, I kinda get it. Sometimes we don't always want to sound like the chosen one that every game has us act as. So being the background NPC for others can be an appealing factor, so long as minor attention is given. Like, if two people start a fight, I'd be happy to react to enhance the lore of others. So having people pretend to have jobs can spice things up for others. 6th one, I am guilty of having a character meant to be a villain, I'm hoping that I can enhance her by making her a goofy kind of villain, so people can take me half serious, while trying to have a laugh at what I can do. Basically something akin to Team Rocket levels of villany. I wonder if being that one bard that just plays music in public places to spice the environment counts as the 5th one or is a separate reason?

I play a character who has both parents alive, neither of them are evil masterminds, and sometimes I think that makes him a rarity in Eorzea. So many bad or dead parents.

Every time the club is shown my bunny is on screen and I feel called out. Tbh I enjoy both clubbing and playing out some adventures with my friends, deffo not a WoL though XDDD There's also the cosplayer btw!

RP has been a lot of fun here. I've came from places like Conan and WoW when it comes to RP feels so much laid back least the ones I've gotten into.

First time my WoL actually encountered RP was...in the Wolves' Den of all places lmao. I was chilling there just finished Frontlines when a Viera and a Lalafell approached. The Viera(? iirc) was doting on me and the Lalafell outta nowhere asked "Are you here to kill too?" I wish I could've RPd as well but I was caught off guard. I only waved goodbye and left XD

This list isn't all-encompassing, evidently xD I roleplay as a former Garlean soldier now in service to the Maelstrom. Love some tactical/ military jargon in my RP, and love mixing in some bigger picture battlefield talk. Eorzea is a land that's been rife with War for I dunno how many years. And I love me a proper War. xD

I’ve been trying to get into rping in the game and I have to admit that yes I did make my character into the Warrior of Light but I don’t have him be all “Look at me I’m the most important person here!” I actually more rp as a support person and try to help others. Though the last time I tried to rp at the beginning of a dungeon mostly just to comment at the beauty of it I was told by one of the members that if I wanted to rp just do trusts only. Yeah that’s what rpers want to do talk to npc’s with limited dialogue and no way to bounce off of them because they aren’t real people.

I am surprised you didn't call the "3 am Limsa Lominsa earns 10 mil gil in a single night Miqo'te twink" (or Mystel if you want to excite people a bit more with your knowledge of lore) out! . . . N-not like I would know or how I got enough to get a medium sized plot in Kugane! I wouldn't do such a thing and forever taint the lore of my character! (Good thing I saved up the Fantasia phiole for later when I get tired of that). I swear, Limsa Lominsa will never be the same to me.

It's important to have fun and experiment with characters, try different approaches, currently mine is on Balmung as was SUCH a bastard to people he got turned in to a clockwork man, so it's a whole journey of discovery for him, learning how to be and actually making friends along the way. I've encountered all of these types of roleplayers through the years, a lot front if because they're not sure how to roleplay, or afraid they'll look silly, lacking confidence, I love bringing new folk in on the stories!, I think a pitfall a lot of roleplayers fall in to is not giving your character their flaws, the weaknesses, an invincible know it all is a VERY boring person to be around.

once upon a time i didn't want my character to have familiy roots, like others around me crafted their characters to be, so i made up some shit about my characters soul having gotten split and reincarnated by Hydealyn right before one starts into ARR. Now, 2 years later that decision has lead to very deep and intresting headcanon i write with my friend i met ingame. Even tho she's very strong and unique, she's not a warrior of light type, i happily announce

Not gonna lie, RPing as a club owner (specifically the Moonlit Reverie in Mateus) has led to some very interesting aspects, like the mob! And illegal trades!

I'm very reluctant to start roleplaying in 14 myself duo to the Nature of my Character(s), the Siblings Izanagi and Izanami. Because most might be weirded out if they actually get to know their Lore, which I ain't shoving in People's Faces. If they don't ask about it the right way or get closer with them, they never gonna know
