What about the teacher who buys all the pretty supplies because it’s her one and only coping mechanism because she knows what’s about to happen to her life? Asking for a friend.
It’s September and yes, I made sure I had my wife’s favorite chocolate was in the house. She tore in to the bag at the end of the first day. I plan on restocking this weekend because she’s been mumbling something about PPTs. I think I’ll stick with accounting.
And that is a man who knows how to be married! Way to go. You may be a serial killer or not put your dirty dishes in the sink, but you definatly get points for the back to school prep!
That’s what we stocked the teachers room with. All the parents of the pta chipped in to stock their room with necessities. I also gave all my sons teachers a bottle of wine for teachers appreciation week. As a class mom that went on every class trip, I felt their pain. Some of those kids are Savages!!
Meanwhile teachers in other countries don't buy supplies for the kids... i have never seen a pencilsharpener that was not this small type 💁♀ If my kid goes to school, and doesn't have an already sharpened pencil ... I will get a little note from her teacher, that I have to check her school supplies
Love it! I do only buy the Pilot G2 pens! I put colorful tape around them to prove they were mine because they seemed to grow legs. Couldn't have the adult beverage at school, but there was ALWAYS chocolate somewhere in my classroom. I've recently retired (30 years). I must be crazy because I miss it so much!
Everywhere is desperate for subs.. if you wanted the occasional kiddo fix at your old school, I'm sure they'd be thrilled to see you in the classroom whenever you wanted! 😁
I bought that big-ass planner because hope springs eternal! But most likely it'll be empty after mid-October. Writing things in the planner and on Google Classroom is just double the work.
Spot on. I *finally* acknowledged the futility of my expanding folder and retired it this year. I literally bought a neoprene cover for my notebook, and dove chocolate is stashed in my desk.
Me, a pre-service teacher who has those EXACT Expo markers...along with chocolate-scented sloth stickers, dog stickers and emoji stickers and animal-shaped stress balls for my SENIOR classes: 👁👄👁
That last one reminds me of the student' mom who gave me a FIFTH OF TEQUILA as an end of year gift. Dang, that woman was right on target! I had to hide it quick though, and sneak it out of the building.
Each July I was Target's favorite customer for their back-to-school sale as I bought Crayola markers (broad and fine tip), colored pencils, and crayons, Dry Erase markers, rulers, Ticonderoga Dixon #2 pencils, Pink Pearl erasers, scissors - small and large, blunt and pointed, Elmer's Glue Sticks in bulk (40+ each of everything) as well as electric pencil sharpeners as I taught elem. art - sometimes up to four different schools every week - for years. Some schools - no budget, others - $100 for the year (650+ kids per school). One clerk as he looked down the checkout and my haul, asked "Are you a teacher?" "No, I just really like Crayola products."
Only once was I severely disappointed in a Crayola product. I had just purchased their Portfolio brand of oil pastels - the yellow color became discolored once it hit the paper. The day after kids were complaining of dark dots where they had used yellow. I called their customer service during class and related the problem to them. The lady at BinneySmith that I spoke with apologized, said it must have been an old batch left in storage too long, and promptly sent a complete replacement set to make it right. My students (and I) were really, really impressed!
The Experienced Teacher makes notes on the school supply list: "Please, please, PLEASE only buy Fiskars scissors. And do NOT go to the dollar store to buy crayons! Oh, please!"
You missed my sharpie collection. Ultra fine tips and those fat chisel tips for quick calligraphy labels. Silver and other metallics for labeling dark things. SHARPIES AND CRAYOLA CRAYONS😅
A few years ago, I got one of those expandable folders to put papers in to grade when I got home … yup, so, I think I used it 2 or 3 times total … and I think that’s rounding up how many times I used it. What she explained in the video about it is very, very true! 😆
I had to stop the video at the individual pencil sharpeners because that was SO ME!! I actually did this one year. Another year I got all mechanical pencils. And no the kids didn’t interrupt my lesson to ask if they could sharpen their pencil, they would just get up and do it in the middle of my lesson. And it’s an electric pencil sharpener! And they would just stand there and grind away the pencil in the middle of my lesson! And as soon as one finished another would do the same thing till I yanked the damn cord out of the socket! Yeah, no I’m not triggered at all. 😱😱
I've purchased tropical color dry erase markers and packs of assorted color permanent marking pens. I've also purchased scented markers and stamp markers. I'm an infant/toddler teacher.😉
I buy the colorful G2 pens and Expo markers lol But I also got that chocolate I still sometimes hold hopes that I'll get grading done at home... The dream goes my toddler goes to bed early and I magically am not the most exhausted person so I have time and energy to grade before I need to have grades done... It's a nice dream
Yeah I’m not buying the bulk packs of glue sticks because I’m naive lol - I’m buying them because I know they will get lost and dried out by the pound, and so I will neeeeeeeeed more of them. 😆
So, the Prepared Teacher was ready for...............just Day One?! 🤔 Those of us who taught in the same four classroom building used to meet after school, sometimes daily, for de-stressing & chocolate - which as we know is one & the same! 🍫 Hang in there!
I'm the pencil sharpener teacher. My student's new better than to interrupt my lessons by sharpening pencils. I had a set time during the day for that..😆😆😜
Totally love your videos,. My wife is in administration in government and its like your channeling her stationary thoughts. So watching this video my reactions were fuck me this content is spot on. I used to use a heap of paper and stationary as a systems admin carried a one inch thick bunch of notes to meeting. Then one day I thought this is stupid so I scanned everythibg to my paperless Office.
Side note I got a contract job working in primary schools upgrading computers. Even after being out of school a few decades when a primary school teacher screams at a kid my first thought was what the fuck have I done. 1 2 3 4 ears on me Pupils respond 1 2 3 4 eyes on you
I am slowly buying exercise books for my preparations. I still need to buy a gazillion of pens so I can give it to students because they can't write with pencils (as they Always say 😅)
When I was a grade school janitor, I gave students one opportunity to keep pencil shavings out of their desks. After that, I confiscated their pencil sharpener. Shavings in the desk inevitably end up on the floor….l
WRONG! I buy the Jumbo pack of glue sticks BECAUSE I know they aren't coming back to me. I've actually had kids try to return them & just told them to keep them...because they're going to ask again the next time we glue something - and I can't be bothered to keep track of who used which one PLUS their germy hands. Nope. No thank you...On top of which, I hate the liquid glue, so this lets me control the gluing a little more (the donated supplies always have liquid glue).
I bought the tiny sharpeners on week 2 this year bc in one week (1 week!) my students broke my electric sharpener. Not buying another one for them to break so manual it is. #traumatized.
I HATE pencil shavings. Why do students miss the trash ever so slightly or embed them by their chair to “hide” the evidence? Sharpeners are forever band. 😆
Are we just going to ignore the fact how fucked up it is that a teacher has to buy any of this stuff with their own money. If I was a teacher than maybe a pen, a binder, some paper (for me)... That’s it. I am not spending a red cent on supplies. I mean part of the reason teachers have to buy their own shit is that admins know they will. Stop doing so and just maybe shit might get better...
