Thanks - the first story is completely new to me. Love the clips of old films you use - great fun recognising the old time stars..... Gary Cooper, Sierra Railroad No 3, etc, etc. Fifty odd years ago I had a copy of "Western Treasures" magazine, which introduced me to the lost gold mines of the old West, 'Coronado's Children' etc, and I've loved them ever since. Has anyone ever found the Blue Bucket Mine, and does Porter Rockwell's ghost still guard the Mormon mine cursed by Brigham Young?
Something to looking into if you're ever short of a story, the finding of Ekshärad . Its a small town in South Sweden that was lost for years but found again under quite interesting circumstances :) Something I learned while visiting the town. That headless bandit one reminds me of the Joaquin Murrieta story. He was a Mexican bandit and when he finally got caught, they cut his head off and put it on display

In reality, it wouldn't be all that hard to cross the Great Salt Lake. It has so much salt in it, it's impossible to not float in it. Plus, it's not very deep in a lot of spots. You could go out in the middle of it and still end up being able to walk on the bottom withrhe water only up to your waist or lower. Other areas are a lot deeper. But it wouldn't be hard to just float on your back and kick your way across or swim across. Although, it does stink something fierce!
Actually, even calculated per capita, the current west (and east, north and south) is much more violent and weapons are much more prevalent than they were at any time in the 18th and 19th centuries.

in #1 the "gold" to me sounds like radioactive material i did my reasearch and found out that uranium has a gold color so possibly the mystery can be solved given that at the time "probaly" no one had knowledge of radioactive material and came down with the poisoning which seems like a worse fate than fools gold if you think im just a little over myself let me know with provided links but if im right then i guess i`ll have to give myself a pat on the back God bless everyone and have a wonderful day

It was a big box office hit back then!
