Subject 16 was one thing in Assassin's Creed, but imo the more egregious sequel bait was AC3 - AC:Syndicate's buildup of Juno's return, just to resolve the entire thing in a comic book and move on in Origins.
tbf her story really wasn’t very interesting and didn’t really fit with the way the games wanted to go. the whole basim/loki in modern day is way cooler and interesting imo
I mean its kind of realistic in a way, umbrella was arround for a very long time, spencer wasnt the only person researching bio weapons either, after the debacle of raccoon city and the responsability being pointed to umbrella, who owned most of raccoon city and its police/politics, the company started falling apart, not being able to continue anymore due to the scrutiny. Remnants of umbrella went to form other companies, like tricell, to more independent ish groups like los illuminados and mother miranda, who was direct related to spencer
Assassins Creed writers had no idea what they were doing story wise. Minerva tells Ezio (Desmond) to find the temples to those that came before. Brotherhood has the gang go to ONE temple...the Colosseum to get the Apple. Then Juno does the whole mind control/take over Desmond's body to stab Lucy who is revealed as a traitor because....no reason other than Kristen Bell wanted more money voicing the character and they thought they would work in another twist. As Desmond kills Lucy, Juno tells Desmond to "find her, only she can lead you forward"...who she/her is we have no idea. Then as this video pointed out everything with Adam and Eve is brought up and never addressed again.

Only, that wasn't the true end of Umbrella... they just changed their name to Tricell... Umbrella/Tricell died with Albert Wesker at the end of RE5 at the hands of Chris Redfield and Sheva Alomar... even after that tho, Umbrella/Tricell still kinda sorta lives on in other various Companies and Organizations that have basically taken up the mantle, probably even Employing many former Umbrella/Tricell Employees.
You forgot Call of Duty: Ghosts where the main villain captures the protagonist and proclaims he's going to brainwash him to finish off the Ghosts. It's been a decade and with how the franchise went in direction, it is unlikely there will ever be a Ghosts II.
Psy Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy was what I thought off. It ends with the protagonist saying "he now understands it" as supposedly support troops roll in, and than the game ends. Was still a fun game on its own
Call it "prequel bait" instead, but after playing both of the Aria games in the Castlevania series, I've always wanted to have a game where you play as a younger Julius Belmont on that fateful adventure that ended with him killing Dracula SO HARD that he can't be resurrected anymore.
I'm not yet ready to give up on a resolution to GoW. But Dino Crisis did hurt. I remember playing this with a friend and we finished it multiple times in search for a "hidden, true" ending. It needs a reboot for sure!
A friend and I bought a brand new Dino crisis when we were 16… stayed up and played it all night and beat it 2 times. Returned it the next morning. Forgot it existed until this video.😊
The force unleashed 2. It might not have had the same impact as the first game but the ending was on the cliffhanger where vader was captured by the rebellion. While we all know he clearly got away, I really wish I could've seen the events play out. Then LucasArts went belly up....
But I thought the whole point of saying Umbrella was finished at the beginning of RE4 was for the reveal of Krauser and Wesker showing up later in the game to continue Umbrella's work.
one that still frustrates me to this day is Golden Sun: Dark Dawn's cliffhanger ending revealing the existence of light & dark Psynergy and the big bads never really being defeated ( particularly the ever present Alex, who's been an important part of each entry so far and tied to every cliffhanger tease )....been over a decade as of my typing this and still no sign of Golden Sun 4 happening :(
I haven't played it and even I know how it's pronounced....hell there's another recent video where Josh is talking about Bayonetta 3 & says Jeanne's name as "Gee-Anne", you'd think these guys would take 5 seconds to learn how to pronounce things

Mortal Kombat X implies that Raiden, now corrupted by the jinsei, would be the antagonist of MK11. Certainly an interesting idea, that Dark Raiden would essentially try to become like a benevolent dictator, his basic idea of protecting humanity was just taken to the extreme. Come MK11, Dark Raiden is quickly tossed aside from the new villain Kronika, decides to bring everyone back to life, in order to bolster her ranks to enact her plan. By "everyone" that includes heroes as well (not sure why she would bring back heroes that would eventually prove her downfall). So while we get 2 Johnny Cages, 2 Jax's and 2 Kanos, Raiden cannot have a double, so Dark Raiden is replace by regular Raiden who isn't evil in the least.
The ending of 2009´s The Saboteur,after Sean kills the Dierker and meet Veronique (or was it Skylar?) she asks him if it is over,with him replying "I´m just getting started." however,lets be honest,since the company was shut down before this game actually released no one expected a sequel,so can at best expect a remake/remaster,just like their other titles recently did,namely Destroy all humans 1 and 2
I hate how LEGO Dimensions ended on a post-credits cliffhanger. They ended up discontinuing the game a year early (the whole toys-to-life trend was basically dead) and a sequel was never announced lol
Regarding god of war, Baldur blew the horn, to draw the serpent out to fight him, as he does at the end of the game, I thought this was obvious? Also subject 16 is introduced in AC1
What? That's not even close to right.. Baldur starts hitting the snake way later into the game once we had just talked to the snake and swam into its mouth to get Mimirs other eye.. The game director has even come out and said that the answer to who blew the horn will be revealed later at some point in the franchise
It would have been a good way to also introduce Cain. Especially since after killing his brother Abel, Cain is then cursed by God with the mark of Cain which makes him immortal.
Days Gone has a sequel bait that I still hope will eventually go somewhere It's still just recent enough it COULD but at least it stands well enough to be it's own thing otherwise
For sonic 4, they did release a dlc episode called episode metal, which goes into metal’s story after his defeat in episode 2. The only downside for it, you need to have both episodes of sonic 4 to play it
- I know they wanted to do a DmC sequel and it was a no-go, but I thought the plan was always to return to the mainline series either way. Like DmC wasn't designed to kill that series. - I don't think the GOW entry fits just yet. Although this Norse arc is over I don't think they're done with Norse mythology altogether and it'll likely have some crossover into wherever they go next. You want to talk about sequel bait, Ragnarok still has a ton of questions and situations that beg further expansion, and I doubt they'll just leave it all alone. The question of who blew the horn will probably be revealed at some point; given how tight-lipped Barlog has been about it, it probably fits into something beyond just the Norse arc, and is part of an even bigger "long game." So while it seems like it went nowhere, I think they likely just haven't gone there *yet*. - The Dino Crisis entry still annoys me. And why must you remind me that Dino Crisis exists? - So Umbrella ended in the most realistic way then haha
Final Fantasy VII: Dirge of Cerberus. The true ending had a sequel bait for Genesis' return, who at the time was a brand new character. We did get Crisis Core after it to introduce who Genesis was, and one of the scenes from that game's ending showed that he was still alive and taken by a pre-transformed Nero and Weiss so we vaguely know *how* he ended up in Deepground, but him flying off with Weiss' supposedly dead body went nowhere at all.
The horn was/will be blown by Atreus as Loke. Spoilers for Ragnarok (even though it's just part of the original mythology): Jormundgandr is hit by Thor so hard it travels back through time, and Kratos notices that the Jormundgandr at Ragnarok looks different than the one he have met earlier. This is because it's a younger, newer Jormundgandr from the past. Jormungandr is the son of Loke, and it would make sense that this past future version of Loke can command it via the horn. Ragnarok only let Loke make one of his children, the Fenris, and it setup plots for two of his other children; Jormundgandr and Hel.
DmC reboot's story is not actually that bad if I think about it (just don't compare it yo other DMC games). Yes the execution of the story and characters are bad, but it's not all that bad as a game. And the gameplay is really great once you put mods to match the definitve edition. Truth be told, I genuinely enjoyed it's combat and atleast the character development at the end (despite it's contradiction to the character's established personality in the game)
What makes he bizarre design choices in DMC worse, is that DMC Devil May Cry is actually a good game. The combat is excellent and the story isn’t really that bad. As it is, if it weren’t connected to Devil May Cry, it either would’ve been completely forgotten or more fondly remembered for not mocking the original series.
Resistance 2 had the biggest gone nowhere ending for me. At the end of the game the chimera were able to open a portal to the original aliens home world. I was fully expecting some sort of invasion to come where we would have to push them back or travel to their world for once... Instead resistance 3 focused on a random terraforming plot and suddenly closing the portal seem to imply it killed all of the Chimera on Earth even though they had been kicking humanity's ass for years without an open portal. Absolutely nothing seemed to suggest they needed the portal to live and nothing else to imply they couldn't just open a new one.... There's also all the stuff with the 3rd alien race which created grey tech or all the stuff with coven from the psp game... That series was amazing but it seemed like they just wanted it to be over and released a sloppy follow up to just rush an ending...
Virtue's Last Reward/Zero Time Dilema: K bait. Without spoiling anything, this scene in the end of VLR was NEVER addressed in ZTD. Though perhaps for the best. ZTD was a mess
Mega Man Legends 3 and Shenmue 2. While Legends almost got a sequel that was killed behind the scenes. Shenmue 2 did that was a nothing burger that tainted the franchise with a lower quality than it ever had. Now I'm sad. Thanks, WhatCulture.
Well the whole AC-series-storyline is so full of dead ends it feels ridiculousness. As if whenever the writers seem to go in a direction that might turn into something interesting, it gets dropped or "solved" outside the games. I already hated it when Crysis did that and i was sooooo lost when the sequel came out. Dear companies if you want to advanceor "enrich" the lore through books or comics, that's fine but you have to adress this in the sequels (or else your players wonder what happened to Nomad, the aliens and the world - like me). Another bait that went nowhere was pretty much the whole plot of the Witcher 2.
Would have thought Xiii would make the list considering there was no sequel despite a TBC at the end, instead all we got was a piss poor remake later down the line.
The Resident Evil bait topped my list too. The fanfic community at the time got me good and psyched to see how Capcom would top fan theories, and I saw that they handwaved the whole thing. I almost, ALMOST, turned off Resident Evil 4 after hearing that bit of lameness.

Yup, I enjoyed it's combat (with essential mods).But the characters personality and execution of the story... It's D.o.A But hey, it's combat also became one of the foundation on DMCV (on Nero). So all in all, it ended up on a better game.
Viewtiful Joe's sequel baiting. I think the there was supposed to be a part 3 but it never happened and even more so was Megaman X 8 and Megaman Legends 2.
Yeah there are too many details in these games that they never miss or forget about. People had been asking that question about the horn for the last 4 years so there's no chance they just forgot about it and it will be revealed in whatever comes next
Talking about how the Umbrella Corporation got shut down by lawyers gave a really weird if possible idea for a crossover game, Ace Attorney vs Resident Evil, where Phoenix Wright shuts Umbrella through turnabout lawyering. Probably won't happen, but it is possible considering that both are owned by Capcom. It would be so silly of a crossover, but I'd love to play it!

DMC 3 is my favorite episode of the franchise. However, despite the criticism, DMC reboot with emo Dante was actually really good. I evoyed it a lot and the soundtrack by Noisia & Combichrist is the best OST of all DMC games period ! Also the find eve from AC creed could be related to Layla from the later games since : /!\ SPOILER ALERT /!\ Layla join Desmond in a kind of void thingy at the end of Valhalla making them kind of the Adam & Eve of the Animus world. I don't know it's weird anyway, the story of the serie doesn't makes any sens for a while now xD
While I can agree that DmC has some good points, I can't say the soundtrack is one... due to the fact that aside from the song in the intro, I can't actually remember ANY of it, whereas the other games all have some of my personal favourite tracks in gaming... and that thing with AC just makes me shake my head at the lunacy that the series has built up over the years (coming from someone who was actually invested in the modern-day story... until it became clear that it was going nowhere even remotely satisfactory)

Halo 4, and Assassin’s Creed both did the incredibly lame thing of killing off their Big Bads off screen. Speaking, of course, of The Didact and Juno respectively. Worst possible decision for both characters.
How about Mass Effect Andromeda: The out of nowhere "Oh there is actually a fifth arc we never mentioned before, her is an audio log of it" Or the Benefactor... or the Scourge... or the Primus...or the Jardaan... Looking back I refuse to call the final of Mass Effect Andromeda and "ending", the games feels like a failed movie thtat tried to start a cinematic universe: Way too much storylinies, cliffhangers, sequel baits etc. ... and forget to tell a good story for its own movie, because all was sued to set up future projects...
@@chez4prez825 Yeah; I have the same opinion on X-Men Origins: Wolverine too. Had the final villain been just Weapon XI and not a proto-Deadpool that movie would have nowhere near the hate it does.

The whole "nobody asked for it" argument is completely ridiculous because you can apply it to so many great games (as well as movies, TV shows, comics, books, etc) too. Like who asked for Sonic the Hedgehog? Who asked for Dark Souls? Who asked for Elden Ring? Who asked for Grand Theft Auto? Who asked for Silent Hill? Just because someone didn't ask for it doesn't mean it shouldn't exist.
