This is one of the best explanations I've seen. I'm studying CCNA at school and ACLs seem OK at first until I frustrated and can't recall how to get the IP range from an ACL. The majority of explanations are "just subtract 255" but there is so much more to it. Well done Mr. System Engineer you earned an upvote from me!

Help! This is a cisco excersice. This is the ACL statement below. Deny all hosts from the 10.10.10.0/24 network. What is the wildcard mask? The "correct" answer is 0.0.0.255. But another question is: This is the ACL statement below. Permit all hosts from the 192.168.5.0/27 network. What is the wildcard mask? The answer is 0.0.0.31. If we use the technique in the video is makes sense. 255.255.255.255 - 255.255.255.0 = 0.0.0.255 255.255.255.255 - 255.255.255.224 = 0.0.0.31 Should the wildcard mask be different depending on if we want deny or permit?

simplest way of explaining them, just got another question ,what if we got 0.0.0.01000000 as wild card mask ,are we gonna match the only one bit normally???
