After McAfee said his spot was a surprise to him, yet he played it so well that it seemed like it was rehearsed. I'd like to think as soon as his music hit, Triple H told Pat to imagine Bron was Lesnar, and what we saw was McAfee's genuine strategy to survive a match with Brock Lesnar
Honestly, that Kane self elimination was a brilliant piece of booking as at that point, it wouldn't have made sense for Kane to lose... kinda like how Undertaker self count outed himself in his debut match at Survivor Series. Full circle
@@jamesAGarfield608 I mean wouldn't you argue that's the point? Yeah his character's a dumbass but my whole room busted out laughing when we saw the Royal Rumble's first hot tag.
The most hilarious part about the Farooq self-elimination was that the 2x4 that Ahmed Johnson brought with him was so huge that it took him forever to swing the damn thing, meaning he got virtually no momentum in his strikes. As a result, it looks like he's barely even TAPPING Farooq on the back with the lumber!
Adam Pacitti missed one. In the 1992 Royal Rumble after eliminating Jake the Snake Roberts, Randy Savage eliminated himself to go after Roberts. Savage and Roberts were feuding at that time.
How? He was never positioned as the top guy, and why would he be? I loved Kane in the attitude era but his character barely talked, he was just quietly menacing. That's not really that interesting to draw people to the biggest show of the year largely based on the people who are best at promos.
@Pyramidsong420 Yes it was, because it tied into the main event planning that they were doing in the hottest year of their business ever. Vince McMahon in 99 deserved it more than Kane ever did because he was the 2nd biggest name in that promotion, Rock was 3rd at the time. Kane was never in the top 3.
It makes sense, though, to have a character who's good at eliminating, but doesn't understand greater Rumble theory, and therefore isn't quite able to put it together.
Kane was never the focal point of one of the hottest angles in history lol. Him doing so good in the 2001 rumble was a big push for him, it made his character dominant again, but that was the best chance to do it. Imagine if they went with The Rock v Kane at X-Seven just to be nice to Glenn Jacobs? All this "you deserve it" stuff is ridiculous. No, he didn't and most times others don't either. If it was up to the IWC there would be no winners and losers, everybody's would get a participation trophy. If wrestling ran like this it would look even more losery to a skeptical mainstream than it has.
Mil Mascares didn't go over the top rope he went through the ropes, they just treated it as he did likely for the rumored reason he didn't want to be thrown out and it was a way to get
they do sometimes (when it's convenient) seem to consider ON the turnbuckle or on the ropes to be "in the ring" but with most rules in wrestling in general and especially wwe they are very much "subject to change"
An honorable mention could have been "Macho Man" Randy Savage, who, during the 1992 Royal Rumble eliminated Jake "The Snake" Roberts, then jumped over the top rope after him so he could pummel him some more. However, he was allowed to get back in the ring because the ruling in his case was that he needs to be pushed or thrown out by someone else for him to be eliminated.
Marty Jannetty in 1990, Paul Roma in '91, the Big Bossman in '92, and I.R.S. in 1993 also eliminated themselves, BUT they dove over the ropes attempting to well...... do something to their opponent. I think it happened to a few entries later on too.
Did anyone else notice when Drew Carrey was trying to bribe Kane, Kane smacks the money out of his hand which ended up and the ring the. The funny thing was the outside ref picked up the money from the ring mat and placed it in his pocket.
Jake the Snake Roberts had every reason to go after Andre in that Rumble. The two had been feuding for months. At the previous pay per view, 1988 Survivor Series, Andre got disqualified in the elimination match by ignoring the ref breaks and literally choking Jake out, allowing Mr. Perfect to then get an easy pin on the unconscious Jake and getting the win for their team.
Santino actually lasted 2.1 seconds in 2009, although most WWE sources say 1.9 seconds (which would be rounded up to 2). The Warlord's time from 1989 is still technically the shortest.
Thank you pointing out that Faarooq eliminated himself. I've been saying that for years, but even Wikipedia credits Ahmed with eliminating Faarooq. NO!!!! He threw himself out to get away from Johnson!
During the 1992 UK tour they held a Battle Royal at London's Royal Albert Hall and Hercules eliminated himself after he leapt over ther top rope to go and get a chair as a weapon. I still to this day don't know if it was scripted for him to be dumb or if he was actually stupid enough to forget the over the top rope rule.
I seem to remember Mil Mascares went between the ropes before he went to the outside to climb to the top turnbuckle. I’d argue that he technically, in kayfabe terms, shouldn’t have been eliminated. A weird nitpick I know but I always wondered about it.
I consider the Big Boss Man's elimination in the 92 Rumble as a self elimination even though it wasn't supposed to be. He charged at Ric Flair who ducked down out of the way and Boss Man hits the ropes with the intention of his momentum resulting in him clearing going over the ropes. Didn't quite get it though & instead Boss Man basically just pushes himself over to complete the spot.
"Santina" might've been a wasted spot for a better return, but I'd like to consider it to be a top 3 for this list - I know this wasn't a "TOP" anything list, just 10 of them - because it's the company having Beth and Nattie, seasoned women, (as well as the scattered survivors at that point of the Rumble bc I saw the confused glances) acknowledge directly how stupid the gimmick was instead of having to watch from the sidelines as a cis man in a wig takes something that's LITERALLY a rare chance for the then-Divas. I want to think the self-Cobra combination into the self-elimination was the proper death of Santina Marella.
Why has nobody ever mentioned that the Ahmed 2x4 was RIDICULOUSLY LONG Like comicly Like those weapons in No Mercy that are blown up bigger than the wrestlers What? why?....couldnt they cut it backstage
In the 1992 rumble Randy Savage chased Jake roberts out of the ring exiting over the top rope but he wasn’t meant to so when he got back in the ring the announcers said you can’t eliminate yourself 😂😂 randy had some bad times in several rumbles
remember the time wwe changed the rules in 1992 to if wrestler goes over the top rope then he is not eliminated and needs to be thrown out by someone else after randy savage eliminated himself for second time in a row way before when he was supposed to be eliminated
Ahmed definitely eliminated faarooq, faarooq didnt throw himself out. It just looked that way because faarooq was too far from the ropes before the elimination.
I don't mind a comedy spot like that, but it makes no sense how he was totally flabbergasted by it. We're always told you have to draw a number out and that's the entry you get. Did Pat draw that number and then develop amnesia? Did someone 'register' him and draw his number on his behalf and not tell him? I know it was just a comedy spot but it makes no sense canonically. They had Ricochet come in at like number 26 and then do nothing. His spot could have gone to someone else too.
The topic of this video is 10 WRESTLERS who eliminated themselves in the Royal Rumble. In what alternate universe was Drew Carrey a Wrestler??? You could've said Paul Roma in the 1991 Royal Rumble. I would definitely give Drew an Honorable Mention.
Hated the pat spot at first this year to, but it’s a comedy spot. There’s no other current guy they could have put in there to really liven up or make me think they had a shot at winning, and an old return is the same result as pat, no shot at winning. So spot at the end of the day is a fine comedy spot. Especially if spot was meant for it to be lesnar and omos instead of breaker.
I always like to point out that Mil Mascaras totally went THROUGH the ropes to the apron before climbing the top turnbuckle from the outside. He never went over the top rope
Although this was a pretty below average rumble, McAfee was a wasted spot, he could’ve done anything, even if it was go to attack one of them and get thrown out instantly . It deserved to go to literally anyone else.
I didn’t like that Pat McAfee spot this year We know he can wrestle and they had him tease eliminating himself , come back and then eliminate himself Even if a comedy spot , have him throw a few punches at Omos and Bron Breakker, they no-sell and then toss him over the ropes 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️🙁🙁🙁 I didn’t mind him in the Rumble this year , but he could’ve been booked better 🙁🙁
