Wrestling is fake. It's scripted and acted out so it's not organic or spontaneous. Yes the physicality is real but the rest of it is all fake.

@@anthonyfaucy2761 Define "evil." I'm no expert on Benoit, but what I've heard suggests he was always a very intense and high-strung perfectionist. He was going to end up a wrestling statistic, whether he took someone with him or not.

@@sebastians.9821 "We didn't know about CTE" is like saying "We didn't know smoking cigarettes is bad for you." Technically true, but there's a certain common sense factor. That repeatedly taking head trauma over two decades is liable to addle your brain shouldn't surprise anyone. CTE studies determined the problem was far more serious and widespread than almost anyone realized. Not only that, but the guy Benoit was perpetually compared to and whom he deliberately modeled his style after was Dynamite Kid - a guy who abused his body so much he was in a wheelchair before he was 40. I'd also suggest that anyone willing to destroy their bodies for performative art the way Benoit and Billington did is inherently not right in the head to begin with.

I actually remember that line and it lives rent-free in my head sometimes. I know I shouldn't laugh, but the way he delivered it was so perfect, I can't help but smile.

The most important part of that statement is the fact that it was in response to Hulk Hogan talking shit on Mick Foley for no reason at all. Hogan gave an interview basically talking himself up for being so much better and taking better care of himself, and he decided to pick Foley to use as an example of someone not as great. Foley was still plenty professional during his interview, but it was refreshing and well deserved to hear him call out Hogan for being as full of shit as he is.

Kanyon certainly had in-ring talent, but his in-ring style and mic skills may not have translated well to what Vince wanted in WWE. More importantly, Kanyon had injuries and serious mental health problems in WWE. It's telling that after leaving WWE he only had one appearance in TNA, a company that was willing to take almost anyone with WWF or WCW on the resume.

CTE wasnt really known about when it happened or was just starting to be studied. What he did put a bigger light on it but early on everyone thought it was the steroids. And he did have an absurd amount of them in his house.

They are known to spead up conditions like that, although the media doesn't particularly care as they just want to blame it solely on that and push a narrative. He also probably took growth hormone, which is known to increase the size of the heart. Also the coke lol.

Scipted IS fake. Thats what people mean, that the outcome is predetermined. Look at it like this: if you took two football teams, and predetermined the winner. Then you had them play a full game at 100% effort, running every play as if the outcome wasnt already known, it would still be called a fake football game. Why, bc it isnt about the plays being real plays, it is about the two entities fighting to determine the winner. THAT is a real competition, and wrestling isnt that. Fritz called finishes and otherwise just threw everyone in the ring. Scripts are indeed boring and cut ALL realism out of a match, WWE is an offender but it's frankly the modern indie-promotion cruiserweight who has made small fry TV shows into 100% scripted dance routines, truly "fake" wrestling w/o real holds, (playful) competition etc, making it just unwatchable IMO.

Depends how you define "fake." It's more real than TV or movies, since most of the time there aren't reshoots or stunt doubles or special effects. It doesn't help we now have something called "reality TV" that is fake.

@@jliller the moves hurt which is real, but the items used are not always what they seem, the action is called by the wrestlers, fake banners are waved, sound effects and noises are pumped in, moves are sold, plenty of it is fake
