Buddy was wrestling all over the place. He gave his little speech in someone else’s ring. He wouldn’t have been able to do that at his old gig. Nor could Andrade, Malakai, and the like. If he was coming in beating everybody it would’ve been another “WWE guy” taking spots.
@@turtlehead2 so you just keep him in the background even tho he is more talented and could of been a better asset then most of their day 1 guys. I thought business was about making money not ppl feelings. TK only had the B well C team when AEW started because WWE was trying to keep everyone then when they saw AEW couldn't compete with Smackdown or Raw they just let ppl go.
@@GreyLeo he came in as part of the Cody/Malakai feud that never really took off. I feel like given that they were creatively stifled at their old job, they probably got to do their ideas that didn’t really get over. I didn’t see, but I heard the two of them were feuding on the indie shows. They could’ve tapped into that but didn’t. There’s still time, but if you have a red hot MJF, a Punk coming in and even Brit was hot at that time, how much time is it to get this guy over as well? It’s easy to blame AEW, but show me where he killed it outside of AEW in all those indie shows he was doing while signed to AEW. If they truly believe that they’ll be something special back at the place that fired them, that’s fine. I honestly believe that they were too used to being lead and when given the ball they didn’t know how to run with it. Where’s the demand for them? I really hope they do go back to WWE, get the pop and the diminishing returns that come with it.
Buddy was brought in as a trio wrestler for a person who claimed to be full of ideas. Turns out, that guy didn't have any real ideas, and now he's going away from wrestling after being given everything he asked for on a silver platter. Perhaps, Black was better when he was scripted. Same for Buddy, it would appear.
To be fair, I think Wight is enjoying running commentary on Dark. And I've seen his AEW matches, which were all squash matches due to his age and limited momentum. I'd argue that AEW is treating Paul pretty respectfully. Can't say the same about Johnny Elite, who had one match on AEW and I never saw him on TV or the internet ever again.
The sudden drop for Ruby was surprising for me. Now she's more an accessory to Kingston's feuds. Plus, Athena has pretty much taken her spot as the secondary face during any conflict. Idk about Wight thought. He wasn't really brought in as a TV guy, I believe the intent was more a support role with the occasional match.
I never understood why people act like TNA/Impact! and NJPW weren't alternatives to WWE. I know Impact had a long period where they were kinda down in the dumps but they're doing much better now, and I guess the gripe for NJPW is having to go all the way to Japan, but at least now there's NJPW:Strong here in the USA. Paul Wight also said that he didn't come to AEW primarily to wrestle. If you listen to his podcast with Jericho when he first joined, he said himself that he wanted to mostly do commentary and help teach the other wrestlers while having a match here and there so I wouldn't say he's wasted.
tna was good and a decent alternative at one point..but it was never close to reaching WWE at any point in history njpw is just too hard to follow as a casual
I think the problem now with the Internet is near enough every wrestler apparently needs to be pushed high up the card and anything less than that means they are wasted even if there are only so many spots on the shows to do it. We get people crying they got buried by just losing one match and the thing is many believe their own hype from random fan comments and don't want to work their way up the pecking order.
I believe some really do believe their own hype, but it also doesn't help anyone if a certain promoter signs people left and right where there is already no place on the card for. I mean, atleast some get released in WWE for whatever reason but Tony to me seems like to be the new (old) TNA, collecting and hoarding ex WWE talent to push ratings and only make the crowd pop, instead of building memorable feuds and booking memorable matches. Just my opinion on it right now though :)
This is considered sane discussion, how crap everything is being done and how much wonderfully things would be if done better. You're right, but insane people are fighting over this stuff and making things really personal.
@@unstablebrother. Trips really need to get him back because imagine seeing Morrison v Draganov or Morrison v McDonagh. He'll Morrison v Theory would slap
With Omos, Strowman and Shanky all relatively new to WWE, the Big Show's mentoring could be so valuable to them. Big Shows returns were some of the best 👌
@@ramongarcia5943 And in 7 years, the only things he has done have been spotmonkey stuff and burying the tag division. Every single other title he has held has been wasted on him. He could absolutely stand to learn from the Big Show.
I don’t know that any of the full time AEW wrestlers in this video are in worse positions than they were when employed by WWE. The problem is that if all of these wrestlers were pushed as strongly as they perhaps should be, plenty of people would accuse AEW of being TNA 2.0 - pushing ex-WWE stars at the expense of home grown talent. They can’t really win.
10. mostly been injured and isnt getting past Jade, Brit or Rosa 9. Guy was only brought in for commentary on dark and backstage tutoring. I don't want to see him wrestle 8. Yeah this one sucks, hope hes okay and comes back with a massive push. 7. Expected her to beat Jade. But still think she will get her shot in a few months time. 6. Decent wrestler but dont see where he could fit higher in the card. 5. Ohh do one. Guy is so over rated. Cut him already or leave him off the show. 4. Forgot he wrestled at AEW. Im hopeful he gets a good job once NXT Europe opens up. 3. Never really been on AEW's books, I like him but similar issue of he's not getting past the upper mid card level. 2. Ok this is the one that baffles me. Push Miro. 1. What? They ARE using him. Hes got the RoH title and has came back from extended leave after doing some other work outside of wrestling.
While yes that is true, would you say his run has been what everyone thought it would be when he signed? From that perspective I would say he has been a dissapointment.
Honestly, I'd like to see a list of 10 Ring of Honor stars WASTED by AEW, since Khan owns them both. I'm still really salty that several ROH champions, including a grand slam and longest reigning champion, were completely left out of that "tournament of champions" to crown a new AEW World Champion. (meanwhile they counted peoples' WWE accomplishments...)
@@wanderlustwarrior Looking at the image now, weird, I swore they mentioned that Jericho was the first AEW Champion and Moxley was the first two time Champion.
It's so funny how diehard AEW fans were asking all of them to go to that company because they deserved better and then AEW doing almost nothing with them other than milking the pop on their debuts.
I don’t think bringing in Paul white was to have him be a performer. He’s there to offer guidance to all these newer stars and be a notable name for the common fan. To say he’s been wasted because he’s only had commentary roles and a couple matches on Dark seems disingenuous. He’s done what he was hired to do, unless I’m just uninformed
Big Damo?!? This might be the most absurd list you've ever made. The guy wasn't even signed to AEW. To say that having him on here at all - and especially at # 4 - is a reach is the biggest understatement of the week.
Well, that was his argument. Damo popped up on TV twice and did a few appearances on Dark and Elevation. His complaint was that AEW didn't sign him. That said, I'm not sure where Damo would actually fit on their roster.
Big AEW fan, here. For me, there's only 3 real major things I look back on with regret or sadness during the 3 years AEW has been a thing. 1. Cody leaving and never turning heel. 2. CM Punk's ridiculous drama 3. Andrade not being booked like he should have been.
At this point I don’t know why any woman would sign with AEW considering how little time the current womens division gets. Tony Khan is obviously sexist based on his booking of women. All of these people have been used poorly because Tony Khan doesn’t know what he’s doing. The biggest blunders have been Andrade, Black, Cole and Danielson. I’m not a fan of Danielson, but Khan has misused one of the most popular wrestlers in the world since he debuted.
Not everyone can be a top guy all the time. Fans would still complain even if they just shot everyone to the moon immediately and gave each new signee a title program. The arguments would be AEW only focuses on ex WWE guys and plays hot potato with its belts.
The thing is... for those people saying these talents were wasted by AEW if given a monster push straight out of the gate, they would complain about how its only ex WWE guys getting pushes. No pleasing some wrestling fans, I tell ya.
Tony Khan gets a new toy and it's the best thing ever... Then he gets bored and tosses it back into the pile and gets a new one. He's a terrible booker no matter what Meltzer says.
myb because they were big fish in little pond...Morrison though is charismatic and can talk so he could've bennefited from push but sadly he's not in his prime anymore ..while Andrade is very boring to say the least
You can't give everyone everything all the time. Not sure that the alternative were giving them more either...someone has to be a midcarder and a strong midcard is needed for a roster to feel complete. Also on a side note probably watch dark and elevation more than dynamite because it's more digestible and easier to pause and come back to and the commentary is more fun on it.
Wrestlers and fans both need to realize this. Pretty much everyone on this list thought they were be big stars in AEW and be champions. Titles almost mean nothing in AEW right now.
and do what there?with all this roster they'll just push a guy whose boring like him ?problem is these guys keep complaining but don't want to learn how to act or be characters
I still don't wanna see joe in wwe... There's still some dreammatches outside, like... Some BLOODSPORT matches... Maybe... Just maybe... Joe vs daddy dickinson... Maybe a championship match against alex colon... A remixed version of his necrobutcher match but against nick gage... ... Or a suzuki rematch... IN JAPAN... MAYBE... MAYBE
Honorable Mentions should go to all of the Undisputed ERA (excluding Roderick Strong obviously), some of it is due to injuries but also none of them ever did much. You can already put Saraya in the group because the AEW woman’s division is just terrible. Cesaro has also been misused. Yeah he won the ROH world title, but he lost it to Chris Jericho, and he is really just being used as backup for Mox.
The roster has become too bloated. As a kid I would've loved all the wrestling but with a family now. It's already haed enough to keep up with Raw, NXT, Dynamite, Smackdown and Rampage. Plus the RU-vid shows. Which I can say I've never watched, not a dig at AEW, I'm a wrestling fan. I'm not going to choose one over the other, two different companies, too different kinds of entertainment for me, honestly. The biggest let down for me in AEW has easily been Miro. In both WWE and AEW. The whole best man gimmick was such a waste, dude should've been in the main event immediately. Instead he was thrown into a stupid storyline. Khan has too many people, and not enough time even with the YT shows.
I remember a year ago this channel made a video about 10 AEW stars wasted by WWE and now 10 WWE stars wasted by AEW...how the tables have turned that's crazy😂😂😂😭💀
Because Tony signed too much in a short period of time as a FU WWE. If he stop the signing at let's say Black and focused on building Black, Miro, Andrade up to championship level before continuing signing in guys like Punk and UE almost 6-9 months later, we won't have this list
Honestly I didn’t really rate most of the people that went to AEW. Swerve was a loss to WWE and obviously Bryan and Cesaro. You could argue for Keith Lee although I find him a bit too theatre. Black was boring, Andrade was the weakest Latino star for a while. Matthews and Spears are generic AF and I think they’ve got better mid carders than a past his prime Rusev. Show, Henry, Paige and Christian should have all retired but don’t blame them seeking a payday.
Part of why Samoa Joe hasn't been used much is that he took time off to work on some stuff outside of AEW. That said, WarJoe is great way to underutilize two great talents at the same time.😞
@@imoutotrash390 ROH is not a separate entity from AEW yet. All of ROH's champions are working on AEW contracts. That probably won't change until Tony Khan secures a TV deal.
Obviousness this is just my personal opinion. But I don’t really think Ruby has been wasted. Don’t get me wrong I quite like her, but she is extremely mediocre in most aspects. I don’t think she has been that wasted, at least in comparison to a lot of other women on their roster.
Miro simply isn't it in my book and never was. Yes rusev day was funny but that was in large part to the incredibly underrated Aiden English. Matthews and Black on the other hand really should be bigger deals when they return.
I hate to say this and Im sure lots of people will disagree but like... I dont think Andrade really has been any better in WWE than AEW, like, I think its about the same and I feel like from both companies I can only count his best matches on one hand, dont know, Im not really upset like other people are. I think Andrade, despite being super talented, is kind of just overrated as a appealing character and not really worth the headache of trying to get him over
Adam Cole has a great run in AEW from day one. He is currently out because of a concussion. Keith Lee has jumped the seniority line to become tag team champion.
Mark Henry and Big show are doing exactly what they wanted to do in AEW. Commentary and teaching the younger locker room. Athena has literally been in the company less than half a year. Buddy Mathews was a nobody in NXT he'll be a nobody anywhere he goes. Keith Lee is featured weekly and was a champion within his first 3 months. Adam Cole was a constant on TV almost too much before the injury... Seriously learn the definition of "wasted" first.
@@elchomper.1063 They barely do commentary anymore and if they're teaching the younger talents then they're doing a horrible job since only MJF and The Acclaimed are doing well Athena came in and has been in the background of every feud she's done and has lost more than a new big signing should Funny how you brush past Buddy Mathews as a nobody since Tony Khan was jumping up and down for him and you AEW fanboys were saying he's going to have a great run outside of the WWE. Funny how quickly your opinions change 🤣 Keith Lee had a great debut and then was taken off TV for a few weeks and now they don't know if to turn him heel or keep him babyface. He's changed his attitude several times since he showed up, plus he's lost more than a couple matches. The only reason he became a tag champ is because The Young Bucks didn't want to have another match with FTR so they dropped the titles Adam Cole has been put into middle school drama storylines talking about "you're not me fwiend anymore 😢" and he's lost to Orange Cassidy by a hug. Wow what a great run
@@owl509 Huh, Cole became the winner of Owen Hart tournament. Competed for the championship. Joined the elite and before injury was about to have a high-profile feud with the elite. Also, that "Comedy Jobber" is the current Atlantic champion who has beaten Pac and Jericho and competed for the title against Omega. Oh yeah, Cole is totally wasted. lmfao
this is a major reason why kahn NEEDS to relaunch ring of honor ASAP. Way too many talent, wrestlers not being able to appear on dynamite each week can affect long term story telling that there trying to tell, and just all around makes the roaster unhappy and bloated
I think a big part of the problem is not knowing how to book themselves... In independents or on NXT the wrestlers worked with the bookers and other wrestlers to develop stories and angles for their wrestling character... then they got brought up to the WWE main roster where Vince pretty much ran thing by his own, limited, vision - if you had any ideas they might make a note about it, probably dismiss it, or if its really good give it to one of the wrestlers Vince was pushing. Now they are in AEW where Tony Khan is kind of in over his head and really needs input from his wrestling talent... but if you've been pretty much beaten down by "The Vince McMahon Method of Booking" for a couple of years you probably have no idea what to do with your character, how to book yourself, how to approach Tony about what you want to do. And I'm thinking thats why wrestlers who have a clear vision of themselves and what they want to do have Tony's ear and are being used and pushed in stories (guys like Chris Jericho, Kenny Omega, Jon Moxley, Brit Baker, etc) and others like Aliester Black, who sat in a room for a year, or The Big Show who spent years working with what Vince gave him, aren't doing anything beyond getting a pop when they arrive and then a match or two (which Tony Khan knows how to book a pop).
Spot on. While I largely prefer Tony to Vince as a booker and definitely as a person, they do share several flaws regarding being quite stubborn about their booking style and having their favourites. Tony needs to hire someone to actively book and manage that roster so opportunities don’t pass them by (E.g. FTR, Wardlow, Miro etc.) as well as making sure others who could be huge with the right presentation and push get that from the company (E.g. Andrade, Shida, Starks etc.)
@@nathanbarnett4832 You seem to be under the mistaken impression that I give a damn who’s drawn the most money/crowds. It’s entirely irrelevant to my personal opinion on who books a better wrestling show for my tastes. By the way, apologies if you’re actually replying in good faith here. My comment is a little passive aggressive in nature since you sound a fair bit like some of the more obnoxious WWE stans and trolls that I occasionally see online
@@wh5601 Of course my reply was not meant to offend. But objectively the booker who makes the most money and draws the bigger crowds is the better booker. Indie fans may not like it, but its the truth.
"Andrade has wrestled less than 30 minutes" where is that stat from? looking at his cagematch page he definitely has wrestled a lot more than 30 min lol
I really hope that Andrade, Aleister Black, Buddy Murphy, Keith Lee, Ember Moon, Toni Storm, Adam Cole and every other ex-WWE star will go back to WWE because they've been booked horribly in AEW
I only want Keith Lee and William Regal back in WWE. The others are not worth it. The leader of the 5'8 midget club Adam Cole Nope, The B+ Player that the WWE got right in jest Nope, Henry/Big Slow, where done before 2010. Toni Storm never learned a thing in 2 years in NXT. I liked Moon but her ceiling has already been reached, she would have probably been better used in TNA.
malakai, buddy, andrade and ruby yes. athena, and joe still need some more time before they can be considered successfully/unsuccessfully used. miro is 50/50 big show doesnt need to be used if we're being honest. damo, and morison arent under contract so however they're used doesnt matter as far as aew is concerned.
Makes you wonder of what's the point of bringing them in if Tony is not gonna use them properly. Ratings and using big names that were in WWE just to push them above WWE or make them better than WWE or whatever
I agree Miro wasn't used to his full potential, his Redeemer gimmick was awesome. But once he started criticizing management on Twitter the writing was on the wall. You can't have that. As for Andrade I loved his matches and he always delivered, but he was kind of lost in the shuffle during that chaotic months of influx of talent. But I think he will always underperform wherever he'll go, be it AAA, NJPW or WWE
I feel like the biggest difference between WWE and AEW that i keep hearingg about is the lack/overabundance of creative freedom given to the talent. some people (say moxley or MJF) thrive on being able to do just about anything with their character with very little input, but a lot of the guys coming from WWE seem to complain about a "lack of creative direction" from TK because they come from WWE where 90% of what youre saying and doing goes through a writer, producer, management, you, writer again, and then vince or HHH. Its not that either side is any better than the other its just that they have wildly different ethos about how to use their talents.
