Welcome To Survival-Russia. One of the very best Outdoors and Survival related communities on RU-vid, and yes, It's a pretty good Channel too.
My name is Lars. I'm From Denmark but I live in Rural Russia now. I live at a Homestead in wild nature surrounded by a huge forest.
On The Survival-Russia channel we do all things related to the Outdoors Lifestyle. I share my thoughts and experiences on Survival Techniques for the woodlands of the Northern Hemisphere. the Reality of Survival. I share Techniques and ways of the Siberian Tribesmen and the Russian Longhunters of the older days. Things not shown outside of Russia very much.
On this Channel we also do Off-Road driving, Vehicle builds, Metal Detecting, all things Outdoors basically. Enjoy!

Fin Mosehornugle, jeg har selv set Mosehornugler nogle gange dette forår. Mosehorn (Short-eared Qwl) er nomader og kan yngle helt forskellige steder fra år til år, afhængigt af hvor der er godt med føde.

This is a fine start to a new series! This is what Survival Russia was built on. Your remarks on watching several independent weather channels strike home this week. Even so, Survival-inducing weather can develop and change direction quickly. I have family who live in Cypress, TX USA. A high-wind event took down many power transmission lines and has left them (and 1 million other Houston area residents) without electrical service for the past several days (and into the future.) My family is supplied with emergency food and water (Survival begins at home. The best place to survive is at home where you have the most of everything that you are likely to get for 'the duration'.) They have power for their satellite phones, so far.

Magnetic compass is affected by iron and steel, power lines , vehicles, wire fences, buried ww2 junk etc, even stuff in your kit, always move around when taking bearings if they look weird. I relied on the compass to control support fire, a mistake could cost lives of your own or innocent others. I am sure Lars will cover these points in the series. He is well qualified to do so.....

You can draw it on paper, and if you have the materials or a store that can do it for you, have it laminated. That way it won't tear, and if the laminate is still sealed, it will be water proof/resistant. Folder sized paper is best, but if your map covers a big area, you can make the map by sections on multiple papers (laminated), and lay it out on the ground if you need it.

So go ahead and publish anything you like. I don't care if it is survival or building your many sided house. I like watching everything you show us. If you are carrying a compass and a map, make sure that magnetic declination is adjusted on the compass according to the data on the map, otherwise, the bearing may be erronneous. If your are going to an unknown site, gets its location first from a map. I like using compass and map, no batteries are necessary.

Excellent video. We once lost our bearings in the Australian bush late afternoon. We started to doubt our electronic compass so used the setting sun to confirm north. Knowing there was a road to the north, we slowly made our way to it in the dark with a head torch Eventually we found the road and backtracked to base. (We've added. A couple of button compasses to our kit since )

I'm very excited for this new series of videos. This one already had a ton of great info. Ps. I actually had an experience this past winter where I got turned around. I had fallen in white water rapids. 18°F. Dusk. Temp dropping. Had to find a spot to set up quickly. Set down my pack. Looked for a spot. Could not find my pack again... i saw my problems compounding. So I had to sit down. Calm down. Look around. And try to think clearly. But as you say. It's not a plesant experience.
