Someone said : success is not what you do when people are watching is what you have to do when they’re not. ( Staying late designing, drawing, learning when you’re fine and when you’re tired, sick, sleepy, exhausted, frustrated, trough hard times no matter what, and still going forward, that’s the price to pay, the grind. I came into the Tattoo world when I was 21 as an apprentice to a Criminal who eventually lost his shop and was convicted of murder, I found myself working at other shops over the years but hitting a wall creatively. Many times having ups and downs working at home. trying to get in good shops selling my equipment going to art school. quiting school, working in factory. Now my life is full circle again. I have a home studio and I am growing my presence on instagram. I love your art style and I too explore my dark art style. I just recently bought my FK Irons Spectra Flux! I have also been tattooing since 2008. And I took a way different approach. I've always worked local low paying jobs. I went through two apprenticeships. I dealt with the local crowd. My name is locally known. But it was a lot of work. Now my own shop is almost open and I'm stoked as hell. But it took me 10 years. The changes I've personally seen in 10 years are truly amazing. And I love that my passion in life has stayed the same despite my growing older. I wouldnt have a life path if I didnt have tattoos and I feel truly blessed. Tattoos are my way of helping others..

Ive been tattooing exactly 10 years too and can relate to all the struggle that you mentioned cause my path is almost like yours, only now i have begin to see some of the rewards of my hard work. I just cant live without a day grabbing the pencil os pen or brush and do something creative. And this past year I've been able to open my tattoo studio, all with hard work. Thank you for this video, lately I've felt so drained being a female vegan cook in L.A. and like mentally have just been stuck. You start listening to other people letting them get in your brain and you forget to keep pushing cause you get so tired. You can work hard but if your not working hard for your goals and your dreams than its not your life. Both you and your wife are so awesome it was great meeting y'all at the cookbook party here in L.A. you both are so driven and a force like nothing else. People also doubt you coming from a small town or area and putting everything on risk like I grew up in a small town in MI and moved too LA and like people still think I'm crazy for that, but if your chasing your passion/ niche it's worth it.

This is the story of what the American dream should be, hard work, dedication, from nothing and now his books are sold out in hours...if you are watching this and want a career in tattoo, listen to what this guy went through. It does not get handed to you, it will not happen overnight. Look at his early works, they are crap, surround yourself with people who believe in you and will support you with their body. This guy was homeless, not enough money to buy a train ticket, but he kept at it. These kids nowadays who have never been told no, give up at the first rejection...they think they deserve it instead of earning it...

I'm so glad you made this video! It is very inspirational! I went to art college thinking that it would help me become a tattoo artist, but ended up going into graphic design. I still love drawing flash and being creative and still hold out hope that one day I could start doing something that I've been passionate about since I was a kid, and this video has re-inspired that!
