Letters to the rest of Spain is a series about a divided country, in which Biemans tries to expose something of the Spanish soul through the handwritten letter. He writes his first letter to the Basque Country with the question: What influence does the Basque conflict still have on your life? With the term "Basque conflict" he actually means the violence of ETA, but the legacy of this terrorist organization is still so sensitive that he has to be very careful in his letters.
Three years ago Stef Biemans came to live in Spain quite suddenly. To get to know his neighbors, he started asking them questions in letters he sent. Biemans learned a lot from the answers of the Andalusians, but above all it made him even more curious. Curious about all those other Spaniards.
In this new series - a sequel to the award winning series 'Letters to Andalusia' he asks questions about the stories that dominated the Spanish news last year.
He saw how migrants arrived in the Canary Islands, how the Basque Country celebrated the anniversary of ETA laying down its weapons, how Madrid's hospitality industry interfered in local elections, how Galicians cried out for attention without raising their voices, and how bullfighters complained about lack of work due to the pandemic.
