@@Boyahda he's doing speculative journalism, and the deck techs have slowed down. Click bait such as "tegrid is getting BANNED" and then saying in the video after his 2 minute intro and 1 minute of talk about tegrid that "no she isn't... YET... based on SPECULATION"
Thanks for this, DJ. MTG sets come at us so fast and furious these days that, as a Commander player, I can't keep up and find videos like this a godsend. Just ordered 31 cards off this list. Amazing
Oh lord yes. I built my first commander deck (sek'kuar) from your previous video and loved it ever since. INSTANTLY clicked on this one! Thanks for making these, they're great!
I bought an earlier version of this list when I was starting out in commander and it has been great. I still stumble over cards that I didn’t appreciate when I purchased it, but suddenly are perfect for a new deck I’m working on. Merry Christmas!
After building a cEDH Selvala and Najeela, I decided to try budget. Built a budget Yuriko deck and she can still do work. A well-built budget deck is no joke.
@@olafthemoose9413 Very true; you can add expensive cards to a mediocre commander and MAYBE bump its power. A strong commander will carry budget cards. Yuriko IS very strong.
@@JustforKikX yuriko is absurd, I have her and she's by far the strongest deck I own, even as a budget player. Damage AND draw on a commander, here's hoping for more Ninja variation commanders in Kamigawa
Easy to build around busted commanders for sure. Oher easy go tos for budget players could be Chulane , Korvold, Sythis, etc. Just make sure your commander says "draw a card " and ur good to go
I went out and bought the cards on your old list DJ, saw them rise in value really quick and kept them all because they're all genuinely good cards. This is, in my opinion one of your best vids/vid series. Good Job and thank you. Hope you're well, stay safe
Two things: first, I can’t believe these cards are this cheap. That’s great! Second, this is a fantastic list to offer to new players. More people should make videos like this!
Just now getting into Commander, and this kind of video is a godsend. I’m keeping a list of every card from this video and then if/when I decide to make a Simic or Grixis deck, I’m coming back to it for sure.
Great to hear people giving praise to Gonti! One of my favourite cards of all time. I have a Gonti EDH deck and I love it so much. Countering the Azami player's spell with their own or killing someone with their own Triumph of the hordes, delicious!
Loved watching this! I have quite a few of the red cards in my Zara, Renegade Recruiter theft deck (Fire squad, Etali, Captivating Crew, etc) and love seeing them get some love here!
Thank you, DJ, for making this list. I have a lot of these, but it's definitely nice to get some reminders on ones missed and/or forgotten (or never knew!) It's interesting how some of them are already many times more expensive (looking at you, Slippery Bogbonder), and I'm curious which other ones will increase in the future. Happy New Year to all.
Loving the picks, all great cards to start your EDH collection. - Scytheclaw I had to remove it from my Edric deck, so many evasive 1/1's that card was too good - Slipper Bogbonder is silly how underrated it is - Etali under a 1$= Wow - Rapacious One is great tech for budget Xenagos - Vile Entomber is almost perfect, Zombie Wizard not Warlock; Oriq Loremage is OK but comparing these two is like an Instant and a Sorcery - Inevitable Betrayal solid Blue card - Avenging Huntbonder with those Doublestrike Counters, Lovin' it I'd add Raving Dead to the list, such a silly card since it is random :P
Always good to see a mythic card worth 0.25$. Makes me feel safe investing into the cards worth a hundred. Like they'll never end up like that. . . . . . 😐
This list is a MASSIVE help to someone getting into commander. Thank you so much for this video, love how you give your personal reasoning behind each card. Makes the less obvious good cards easier to envision without context!
As weird as it is, I've used Thieving Amalgam enough to cause my group to understand me saying "I've got Ape Snake". I have it in my Sek'Kuar decklist (I've got every Coldsnap commander) bc those creatures are nontoken, which is clearly great.
Dunno - some of these are good - but seems general theme is “if you don’t have the budget, steal other player’s cards and use those instead”. not sure most of recommended ones are really “staple” cards vs being card choices for specific playstyle.
Vile Entomber seems WAAAAYY better then Oriq Loremage, since you don’t have to wait an entire turn to do anything with it. I feel like people would just kill loremage before it gets too much value
@@tempestandacomputer6951 lol, true. If you can activate the loremage twice or more, it's probably better, so yeah, that'd totally depend on how much removal your playgroup runs, and how much of a threat they perceive entombing to be
This is pure gold!! If you got any more ideas for budget staples please make another video. I'm trying to fill my binder and so I'm going to order most of these (I already have some)
I’m surprised that I haven’t seen chain reaction before. It seems good whether you’re on a budget or not, at least for color combinations with limited board wipe capabilities
