MFT is a niche market. So the margins there have to be bigger due to the much lower sales volume in comparidon to their L mount cameras. And I don't know if they can even save money on the smaller sensor since they have to order much lower quantities than they would with FF sensors.

Also the improved M43 lens.

i was checking out Panny’s lens lineup and they’re huge lol. I don’t mind f2-f2.8 primes as long as they’re smaller. Put OIS in them and you get a gimbal-less rig.

I highly doubt that an entry level camera for content creators would use such a sensor. imo it's very likely a stripped down cheaper S5ii. Would make the most sense for them economically

@@benja1378 I’m pretty sure the 61 mp sensor has been around for at least 4 years, the price of tech always drops. I think there’s also a 42mp full frame sensor out there. I just think they’ll at least want to match the extremely successful Fuji that they are obviously trying to compete with.

As if an EVF on the side would have made the camera so much bigger, it didn't have to be the best EVF. But okay, if Panasonic thinks it has to exclude large groups of buyers, that's their problem, I would probably have bought this camera with an EVF. Unfortunately, the Sony a7c II is too expensive....

@@ruhri0411 they might be looking at numbers and not people's opinion on the internet. As mentioned in the video, Sony's ZV line is the most sold cameras for a while and they have no EVF...

Aren't there any small lenses for L-mount? You don't have to put the biggest bad wolf in front of the camera. Samyang makes some superlight 2.8 lenses. Do they exist for L-mount too?

BRAW stands for Blackmagic RAW and is only available internally on Blackmagic cameras or externally using Blackmagic recorders. BRAW will never ever be offered internally in a Lumix camera or any other camera except for in Blackmagic cameras. ProRes RAW is actually called Apple ProRes RAW so it's a Apple format so that can be licensed like Nikon did with the Z9. They literally had to buy RED so they could use it as RED owns the patent to compressed internal RAW and they sue anyone and everyone that tries to use compressed internal RAW (why BRAW isn't technically true RAW). Will Nikon keep that up and keep suing? We don't know but according to RED's CEO they won't but i'm not so sure that will be the case. Anyway, ProRes RAW could be possible but not very likely.

@@LiamMarskog That makes sense, Pro Res Raw would be nice but that probably costs so much to add. Well, if they at least add some way to remove internal sharpening on their internal codec...that would be just great for me. Besides the slow motion crop, those are the two main things making me wait for a new Lumix cam instead of getting the current ones.

@@lfcruzsierra No idea what it costs to license ProRes RAW from Apple but that's the only real possible RAW codec i can see being added even if it's not that likely. It would cost in the sense that you would need way better cooling, CFExpress slots etc that ofc would increase the cost of the camera. Not something unusual for Lumix cameras though, we've seen all of that before. Yeah, that would be great. As it stands today you'll have to shoot ProRes RAW or BRAW (BRAW has NR on it with the old S-series though) externally over HDMI using a external recorder to be rid of the internal NR. Yeah, i hear you. I would love to see that kind of stuff as well :)

@@LiamMarskog Yeah, I'd have to invest in an external recorder if I plan to get any RAW from Panasonic. My desire came from not having to carry a monitor on me all the time but I now understand it won't be possible with Lumix. I guess all I have to wait is for them to improve their sensor to allow less crop in high frame rates and I will be very happy to switch to Panasonic from Black Magic. but if this new cam coming in May is similar spec wise to the S5II....but cheaper, maybe I will get it to get familiarised with Panasonic while I wait....

Lumix doesn't make their own sensors unlike Sony and Canon for example so they have to rely on buying sensors (they buy Sony sensors) like most other brands. Nikon and Blackmagic for example all use the same Sony sensor as Lumix does on their original S-series line and most likely on the S5II/X as well which is the Sony IMX410. Both Blackmagics new full frame cameras which are the Cinema Camera 6K and the Pyxis box camera use the same IMX410 sensor that Lumix does so switching won't give you much better high frame rate performance. They also like Nikon and Lumix has to window in on the sensor for higher frame rates in 4K. If Lumix will be able to acquire faster sensors from Sony (or other manufacturers) is ofc not publicly know but Nikon manage to do it so it's possible ofc. I would say it's even likely but it will come with the next flagship most likely and it will cost $4K+ like it did with Nikons new Z8/Z9. As Sony owns more than 50% of the sensor market most brands have to go to them for new sensors and Sony can ofc chose what sensors they're allowed to buy or not. What exactly goes on behind the scenes isn't something we know but i'm guessing they're keeping the top of the line stuff for themselves. Lumix and other brands like Blackmagic will ofc be behind because of this and that's just life until they can start to develop their own sensors which isn't easy or cheap.

What do you mean by G Series? Like G7, G9 or GH cameras? I think most people just like different sizes or models. The profits being divided among models still goes to the same company. Why would it matter?

@@overnightdeliveryPanasonic have two ranges of system camera, G and S. The G series is the original, using the m43 sensor. The S series has the L mount and a FF sensor. It is great to have a small S camera but can we have some new small G cameras too - that is all I am asking.

I like photography too. BUT dont forget that Panasonic re a video oriented company. The global video leaders. Their DNA is video. They re the company that introduced the video to the masses, they invented the mirorless era that every other manufacturer follows. and introduced the hybrid style of cameras that is the norm today. On the other side, the photo capabilities of lumic cameras re superb.For me Lumix is the system of my heart! Never looked back

@@Democratiser Absolutely not! Great sensor with stellar IQ even though it's a bit old (IMX410 sensor was released in 2017) that’s super popular and widely used across many different brands. Just pointing out that this sensor that’s been used by Lumix since 2019 has been PDAF compatible all along. They just chose not/wasn't ready to use PDAF until the S5II/X was released using most likely the same Sony sensor or at very least a version of that Sony sensor.

@@LiamMarskog Yes, the obsession with perfecting CDAF was really odd. Strategically it was madness. I’d love to know the truth as to why they persisted. There has been a lot of speculation but none of it seems to be wholly believable. I think the next material jump in quality really is really only achieved with the sensor in the A7Riv.

@@Democratiser According Panasonic themselves it's because it could hurt image quality which might have been true in past but it's certainly not true today. Why they waited so long is probably because they wanted to be able to compete with other brands which took some time to develop a system that could. Panasonic today is absolutely one of the best even though it took them ages to actually start to implement it in new releases. That's my guess at least. Yeah, Sony has over 50% of the sensor market locked down and they're not selling their top of the line sensor to the competition which is why we're still seeing a sensor (or a variant of a sensor) that was released all the way back in 2016/2017 in new releases. Only two companies that develop their own sensors is Sony and Canon and Canon ain't selling theirs.

@@LiamMarskog Agreed. I recall one of the UK based YT reviewers commenting the S5 IQ might be slightly better than the S5II… but it is only at the margins. So there probably is some validity in that claim but that alone didn’t seem to justify the omission of PDAF. I have a Canon 5Diii but feel that Canon now is really about professionals not enthusiasts. My next camera will be a LUMIX FF. I actually bought the 50mm f1.8 L mount a year ago in anticipation of buying a S5II! … but I held off until now. I really like the LUMIX corporate ethos of giving users massive firmware updates and also producing ‘cripple-free’ cameras and lenses. This comes in part with their underdog status I expect.

The next 3 will almost certainly be L mount as the S1 / S1H S1R series are due for a refresh. I wouldn’t see that as signalling anything about the future of MFT. If there was going to be a collapse in MFT I would expect OM Systems to be the canary. But I saw recently that the OM-1 was in the top 10 of cameras sold in Japan in 2023. So they seem safe which means to me that MFT is safe.

@@cheeeeezewizzz Nah, GH4 replaced the GH3 after 18 months to give cropped 4K. PDAF is much more important. As for the GH6 it was scheduled for the autumn of 2021 and is basically 2,5 years old by now. Also, it's the worst selling GH ever.
