The darker the better for me! I have relatively easy access to chocolate right off the chocolate bar tree, i.e. bars directly from the producers (from what I understand it's the paste from the fermented, roasted beans pressed into bars). If you want, you can even get it 100% pure with nothing added, no sugar or sweeteners. It's not pleasant if you're expecting creaminess but it's amazing if you're looking for a hard slap of chocolaty richness.

I eat fairly low-carb, and when I want to splurge and eat something nominally "sweet," I go for the highest-available percentage dark chocolate I can find (always north of 77%), for its low-sugar content and rich flavors. I tend to really savor each piece and let all those nice fruity/spicy notes come to the fore. Can't do that all the time eating as I do, but it's one of the more satisfying, low-impact cheats available to me.

Same with me. I ate whole bar of 100% cacao dark chocolate in one sitting. I can't resist it's intense taste. Even 100% cacao dark chocolate can be addictive (despite having intense umami taste). It's intense, umami and slightly bitter taste makes me happy and energized.

I wish I could like 100% cocoa dark chocolate since I want to eliminate eating sugar and sweeteners as much as possible, but it's just way too bitter. The strongest dark chocolate I can handle is about 85%. By the way, is there a difference between cocoa and cacao?

Cacao is the actual fruit, the pod with cacao beans. Cocoa is the powdered, already processed beans.

In my own experience, you learn to like it, my first time trying 85% was like "ewwwww, I want to trow up!" Then, I kids started living the better taste, today 1 month after starting eating 85%, I can totally say "I will never go lower than thin, never again." Now when I eat regular chocolate it seems boring, idk. But I am starting to think that 85% is still too sweet, and honnestly, I don't know why, but I liked the bitter taste better than the sweet taste. I want to try 100% now, but it is toooooo expensive.

Today, about 1 hour ago, I ate a whole bar (75g, Záini brand) of 100% cacao dark chocolate in one sitting. And guess what? It wasn't bitter at all (but not sweet at all either), it had an intense umami taste and it was so creamy, that I enjoyed in it. When I read ingredient list for that chocolate, I saw only cocoa mass as an ingredient. Who knows, maybe the cocoa butter is responsible for that creamy texture (since cocoa mass has 50% of cocoa solids and 50% of cocoa butter). All in all, 100% cacao dark chocolate is delicious, savoury and creamy to me.

KR P the experience has a lot to do with the chocolate maker and whether they’re producing in bulk or being very selective with what goes in.
@LENZ5369
@LENZ5369 4 года назад
@@SherilRKirshenbaum Yeah, I suspect the makers had priorities; other than taste -it was one of those expensive chocolates with a ton of labels -"Organic" "Fair Trade" "ethical" etc. Naturally I'm in favour of Fair Trade and sustainable palm oil but under normal circumstances I actively avoid anything with "Organic" or anti-GM marketing; out of principle. Bought the chocolate because it was a charity fund raising thing.

I can't go 80% and higher it's too bitter for me. Lots of people I know use to sugary chocolate. When I make chocolate cake with only 70% cocoa. And I did add sugar but only a little so the cake would not be totally bitter to my taste. But all of them said they only can taste bitterness. But to a chocolate lover they love the cake yes it's bitter. It's way more healthier and have more benefit compare to normal sweet chocolate. And the chocolate make the cake shine . I haven't taste a 100% dark chocolate. I had taste 99%.

@@calvinyip364 i just ate 95% and sped right through it, it was so good. Dang you need to pause for 80-85? I find anything below 80 too sweet. @@efloof9314 same man. I am asian btw. In my house hold me and my mom love dark chocolate her taste bud same as me. We stop at 80 to 85%. Which to many people I know in it's quite not bad. Literally my friends and some of my family member. When they eat like 60% chocolate they say it's very bitter. If i make a chocolate cake. I put 75% or 70%. To me and my mom it taste good. Not too sweet. I add some sugar to balance out the bitterness and salt . But to them they told me all they can taste is bitter lol. Next time i made for them i reduce to 60% chocolate . And added tons of sugar which consider to be very sweet for me and my mom . And my friend and family members told me it was normal and good. I can't take too sweet stuff. My mom from when I was young i did take tons of sweet. After that my mom train me to lessen sugar , salt , oil. And est healthy. From that point i my taste buds change and i can taste more in depth. Good quality Chocolate is amazing. Lintt and another few i like is Meiji chocolate the taste it's Abit fruity and alcoholic as the coca percentage goes higher. And Ritter sport. I consider not bad too. As for baking cocoa Berry and callaubet is the best. Imo. The chocolate too taste amazing.

I ate whole bar od 100% cacao dark chocolate in one sitting 30 minutes ago. It was so delicious and delight to the point that it gave me a huge amount of energy. 100% cacao dark chocolate is like an energy bar to me, that is delicious. It's savoury and bitter taste gives you huge amount of energy. I associate bitterness of unsweetened chocolate with an energy. In terms of milk chocolate, I can't stand it. I feel disgusted with it after just 2 squares. While I can eat whole bar of dark chocolate in one sitting (this is 100g, 90g or 75g), I can't tolerate more than 2 pieces of milk chocolate. It is a lot worse with white chocolate (since it is even more sweet than milk chocolate + I will spit it out immediately (I remember when I tried Milka white chocolate a long time ago - it was so disgustingly sweet and I spat it out)). Milk and white chocolates are disgusting. Dark chocolate (and 100% cacao dark chocolate) is the best.

No, you aren't strange. I only once (due to cost and high price) tried Záini 100% dark chocolate, and it was beautiful. I loved it immediately. People are just accustomed to a sugary sweet milk chocolate (which I thankfully avoid). I completely avoid milk and white chocolates (since they taste terribly sweet). I can't stand them. On the other hand, dark chocolate is delicious, delight and yummy. Even 100% dark chocolate is delicious and delight (but little bit intense).
