Went to a 100 Gecs concert and it was wild lmao I loved hearing Laura Les explain the meaning of the songs, like "this next song is about the time I got my tooth removed: I Got My Tooth Removed".
You asked “is this hyperpop?” & I actually think that’s an interesting question. As much as 100 Gecs has become poster children for the genre, I actually don’t think they necessarily represent the norm for hyperpop as a style of music. The Gecs are much more punk rock than many of their hyperpop peers, I would say in general the genre is much more immaculate as exemplified by artists like SOPHIE, Dorian Electra, Kero Kero Bonito etc. They all share maximalist sensibilities but I think the Gecs are much more brash & absurdist than their peers.
“If daft punk grew up listening to geometry dash music” “Like weezer was recreated in Roblox” “Like presidents of the United States for people who know what a Reddit cake day is” Could all go on a 100 gecs movie poster lmaoo
the thing that I love about 100 gecs is not just how fun their music is, but how they never sacrifice quality to make the music as fun as it possibly can be. this album is one of the most entertaining pieces of music ive heard in so long
@@steveskeletonneii6336 oh for sure. I like that both projects have their own distinct personalities as well. Really gotta catch them live soon. I hear they’re great.
Dylan Brady is an incredibly talented producer. He's produced for Charli XCX, Rico Nasty, and many others. They're definitely bound to blow up in a big way
@@HotStrange absolutely! Didn't mean to discredit her. I'm just a big fan of Dylans prior work on his own albums and production. But Haunted by Laura goes soooo hard
my gf “hates” 100 gecs so i played this album for her and she nodded her head to pretty much every song and didn’t even complain about it being gecs until she recognized laura’s voice. also frog on the floor could legitimately be the solution for world peace
100 gecs are always such a mind trip to listen to, glad you gave them a listen! Wonder if they'll do a remix album of this one too, their last was pretty spicy!
100 gecs are amazing. Their ethos and personalities are amazing. I’m so glad you’ve discovered them. I would def see them live if they’re in the uk or watch some of their interviews. They’re fantastic
this album was pretty much what i was looking for, i liked the more organic elements used this time compared to 1000 gecs! also hollywood baby is an absolute banger
I'm really glad you listened to this, I feel like this album is so well put together while also being absolutely hilarious and that's a rare talent to have
i would say 10000 gecs went in a more rock/punk direction, but songs like 757 and mememe are more hyperpop than the rest of the album :3 if u never checked out their first album (1000 gecs) THATS hyperpop, i would def reccomend checking it out too!
If there are 10000 gecs, Jon Denton is one of them. If there are 1000 gecs, Jon Denton is one of them. If there are 100 gecs, Jon Denton is one of them. If there is only 1 gec, that is Jon Denton. If there are no more gecs, that means Jon Denton is no longer with us.
I was a huge fan of the first 100 Gecs album and couldn't stop listening to it. However, 10,000 Gecs move away from Hyperpop and lean into nu metal/rock and ska left me a bit disappointed at first. One of my favorite things about Gecs is that underneath all the chaos was always a catchy pop hook that is pure euphoria. But this record really ditches their dance roots. THAT said 10,000 Gecs has been growing on me the more I listen to it. And I'm really starting to appreciate how talented they are as songwriters. While the selfish part of me would have preferred a second record similar to the first, I'm now Glad they made something completely new. I can already tell this band is gonna have an insane discography in the future and a diverse library of sounds. Edit: after a month with the record I've come to love it 😂 I genuinely don't know how they do it. But all of their chaos just comes together and works. While I still prefer their dance hyperpop sounds of the first record more, I now like 10,000 Gecs about the same as the debut. Cant stop listening to this.
I am just as much surprised as I am elated that you reacted to this one Jon, you made me laugh with all your analogies !! Edit: also , I hate to self -plug, it's not even what I'm trying to do (my video isn't even cut for RU-vid yet anyway) BUT I also told a story about a frog before I listened to Frog On The Floor, because my cats used to bring them in too!! AND I spoke about their screams !! hahah EDIT AGAIN: I may as well not post my video , I also mentioned the band The Presidents Of The United Stakes Of America in MY video ....I totally see where you are coming from.
100 gecs actually blew up on tiktok back in 2019/2020. a lot of people got into them and had their tiktok phase and for some reason dropped them once it wasn't cool to like them anymore. i was one of those people who found them on tiktok, but their style is so unique and unforgettable that i've permanently become a fan. i've been waiting for this album and it's amazing! i'll be there to support them on their future projects!
I've never had more fun listening to music than i do when listening to 100 gecs, JPEGMAFIA, and Danny Brown. Their music feels so creatively liberating. Would love to hear some similar recommendations
Death Grips and Clipping. Death grips pioneered the experimental hip hop in the 2010s and made it mainstream. Their production is still amazing to listen to even 10 years later. Clipping is where dark ambient/ experimental beats are present with fast rapping and horror storytelling.
@max silbert Their performance got cut off right in the middle of their most well known song, Money Machine. You can see it happen at the end of this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3zRIciiI-as.html
I love hyperpop and It's funny that you mention playing geometry dash everyday growing up... since i played that game for literally 8 years of my childhood lol
