100 Hours In Minecraft Hardcore: Episode 4 - DISASTER 

Make sure you watch the whole thing - Important to know where this is going! In my next episode I will explain my thought process behind the decision to reset from 0. Ultimately I want to try the 100 hour challenge again, but also want to play Minecraft with Joel and Scar.

From the future here, let me just say how precious this is. Watching the Bad Boys take on a woodland manor before they became the Bad Boys. They grow up so fast 😢

Alternate title: Grian finally learns that a chestplate and totem of undying are important in hardcore.

Okay, let me get this straight: 1. It's a hardcore series 2. Grian never raided a woodland mansion before 3. He refuses to wear chestplate 4. Also refuses to hold totem of undying 5. Brings in Jimmy to be the front line, but just mindlessly storms past him into the final room. Also Grian: is surprised he dies. This entire episode was just a giant foreshadowing of death!!

I kinda like the idea of something like this, where it's like a hardcore lite; when someone dies, whatever they were working on its left incomplete, they have to get rid of all their stuff, and change what they have built to make it look ruined and abandoned, before moving onto their next life, slowly building up a history of the world over several lives of always incomplete and/or ruined projects

The goal of the episode was getting a gift for Scar when he gets back, and now he gets two gifts. The totems you intended to get him, and the knowledge that he survived longer than you!

Grian was doomed from the moment they set out. Jimmy, the team's designated ablative point-man, was wearing a blue shirt, while Grian was the only one wearing a red shirt. ;) Never change, Grian!

Wait, your trying to tell me that Scar survived longer than Grian???

Seems like scar actually won. He survived longer than grian...

So I tested it in a creative world. Grian was at full health, had just eaten a golden carrot and was wearing following gear as seen at 2:05: - Netherite helmet with no protection or some other protection (blast, fire, projectile) (He couldn't have had normal protection on it - I tested it under the same conditions) - Elytra - Netherite leggins with protection IV - Netherite boots with fire protection IV He died after 2 hits. If grian was wearing the chestplate (with protection IV) he gave to Jimmy, he would have survived up to 5 hits from the vindicator (including the healing from the nourishment of the golden carrot) and would only have died after the 6th hit. Moral of the story: A chestplate really makes a difference and would definitely have saved him.

I like this decision. I've been enjoying this series from all its perspectives, and I feel like what Grian does with this death is both honorable and also preserves the spirit of hardcore.

It was such great foreshadowing for limited life with grain, Jimmy and Joel going to a woodland mansion. Rip Bad Boys may you be remembered

Grian: * Doesn't have chestplate on or totem in offhand * Vindicator: And I took that personally!

And ultimately the lack of chestplate killed him. And once you obtain a totem in a hardcore world it should never leave your off-hand. Just like how golden apples or a god apple should never leave your hotbar.

Mad respect for starting again instead of cheating like how others would do.

Grian: "WHAT?! HOW DID I DIE IN 2 HITS" Me: "How are you not wearing a chestplate in a situation like this"

Grian: "I'm more likely to die without my elytra" Also Grian: *Dies because he was wearing an elytra*

rewatching this series for a giggle, and just noticed that at 7:40 Grian actually refers to Jimmy as Jim. Rare as emerald in deepslate

Golden rule of hardcore: always, ALWAYS, hold a totem in your off hand

I like how Grian started by explaining why he wouldn't wear a chestplate, and that had he been wearing a chestplate in the woodland mansion, he probably would've survived, at least a little longer.

Grian's reason for always wearing an elytra is that he would jump off a cliff and die if he wore a chestplate. Grian there's no cliffs in a woodland mansion (to be fair there were 4 vindicators though and they hit like trucks)

I think a neat idea would be to make the first base properly "abandoned". Put some cobwebs around, make the copper block pillars fall over in the water, and have the moss overgrow the base. I think it would look really cool and underline that that playthrough is truly over.

I kinda love the idea of a world just filled with hardcore attempts spread out like ruins

This is tragic but honestly he should have seen it coming. Walking around without a chestplate on in a Woodland Mansion is just a bad idea no matter how good your other equipment is.

The fact that scar has survived more than grian is just unbelievable.

If Grian hadn’t revived himself, Joel would’ve been stuck with just Jimmy for two weeks.

That seems like the perfect way to keep the series going so it doesn't seem like you are cheating death! Very honorable and clever, nicely done!!!

The general chemistry between the participants in this series so far has been amazing, and the Jimmy cameo was *chef's kiss*. I hope Mumbo makes an appearance at some point.

And what did we learn today Grian? To wear a chestplate cause eltrya doesn’t count as armor.

I love how when Joel and grian are with scar they’re practically babysitting him and making sure he don’t die but with jimmy they just pick on him. It’s like having a favourite child and it’s certainly not Tim. Glad this series isn’t over

I actually really like this idea of restarting entirely when you die in a hardcore. That makes a lot of sense.. it’s like a new Grian formed on the server. Grain, if you will

This is so funny after limited life. The bad boys first woodland mansion experience!

It’s simple: Apparently when you attack a vindicator, they all target YOU in the mansion, so when grian killed the vindicator in the beginning, all the ones on the second floor began to target him so when he went anywhere near the door on the second floor that led to the room where most of the vindicators spawn, the one vindicator was pathfinding to him and it ran through the door creating the fatal blow. The reason only ONE took out Grian is because it will 2 tap you in hard mode if you don’t have a chestplate, and the other vindicators were probably pathfinding to Joel…oops

Grian at the start: I'd probably die if I wear my chestplate. Also Grian: *Dies because of no chestplate* I don't know what happened

two shot by vindicator? i'd say completing the series with shame is better than letting that take you out of the game. keep up the content!

With the elytra equipped your protection is minimal, even wearing an iron chestplate would boost your defense a lot. The invisible vindicators are an optifine glitch (can happen to piglin brutes as well) so I would recommend turning off optifine when raiding a mansion or bastion. Edit: I realized, the vindicators were coming from the room behind Grian and were probably not invisible. However it’s still good to keep the glitch in mind.

i think the restarting to 0:00 is so clever. like you are reincarnated to the start of the timer when you die and the only thing to do to escape the loop is to reach 100 hours

As someone who's died a lot on hardcore, especially after defeating the dragon and getting netherite, I totally understand the void it creates ;_;
