Yeah, like all he had to do was gather his "footing" and he was set. Was a fun video and inspired me..dude seems cool, too. It indeed *WAS* a power loop, i don't give a fuck.. hehe
Man if this is genuinely your first flights you did amazing my first drone was a little 90mm and I crashed it around 15 times a pack, just getting back into the hobby hope my first flight IRL is this calm 🤣
@@andyescapes I think I spent too much time failing the races on sims than just having fun, yeah gravity is totally different I feel like the throttle is alot less forgiving in real life
@@andyescapes haha I'm putting it down to my old transmitter i have a ethix mambo now and it feels much better, can't wait to start racing there's a track about 5 minutes from me they race on Saturdays
That was one of the best first flights in the history of FPV drones dude. That was a great field to fly as well. I see this is from 2 years ago so I assume you've had a lot of fun by now.
Nothing beats your first battery. That feeling when you take off and go OMG why did I not get into FPV earlier. 5 seconds later already purchasing my next build.
Oh yeah, first battery nerves and adrenaline. My first pack was a calm little DJI Mini 4 Pro + RC2.... By pack 3 I'm hooked and buying the FPV head set. Just 2 packs into the FPV headset I'm like _"Man! I need a 100mph racing whoop !"_ LOL This hobby bites you hard : )
So nice to have your first flight and your reactions documented like this! It's a very special moment. I had less hours in the sim so I just made some cruising and a few scetchy rolls. It really shows you had more stick time from a sim before this.
This is very encouraging! I've been flying a DJI Air 2s for about 3 months and really want to get into FPV (considering the Avata). I've been flying in Liftoff for about a week now and I'm nowhere near "ready", but I'm getting much more comfortable even after a couple of days. I can totally see why so many people who fly GPS camera drones end up crashing an FPV almost immediately because that's exactly what happened to me in the sim. The controls are SO different from a GPS drone. Having to coordinate yaw and roll together to turn takes a LOT of getting used to. I can't imagine trying to learn without a sim.
I have the Avata and it's a whole different beast compared to a gps drone, footage is incredible and learning to fly with liftoff is the best way to learn in my opinion!
I learned without a SIM back in 2017 and crashed and had to rebuild my 5 inch drone soooo many times. I play on the SIM now as it helps my he in those tight tricks through window gaps etc
Mate! I am so happy I stumbled upon this video! I'm trying to get into the FPV hobby and I also was told to hit the simulator. I've got about 10 hours across Liftoff & VelociDrone but I feel my skills have improved considerably in such a short time! I definitely think getting a basic radio and grinding out the hours in the simulator is solid advice. Seeing your skills translate from the simulator with immediate results with confidence was excellent; I hope I can do the same.
Dude i've been watching FPV videos recently and seeing that you were able to do this good after only 100 hrs on FPV simulator inspires me to buy that and see where it takes me
I recently got the DJI Avata 2 and I have been using the remote in the Liftoff Sim. I would not be confident to fly in Manual Mode without the 15 hours I have. Great job.
TestFlight is truly the best tool to use in order to get familiar with piloting a quad. I suggest using a simulator with a real radio for at least 100 hours before even attempting to fly with a real freestyle FPV especially if you are on a budget. Greta job! You did amazing for a new beginner pilot.
That sounds cool man, I'm starting a RU-vid Chanel here in a little while, and it's going to be more about cinematic FPV to. It's cool how your changing it up a bit!!!
The most noticeable difference between the Liftoff and real drone I feel is the way how the drone falls. In the simulator it is more floaty falls with constant speed, no matter of its orientation. But the real drone falls much faster and accelerating during the fall, so you need much more throttle to stop it. Also if it falls flat, propellers are making the fall slower but if you fall sideways, it falls like a stone and speeding up. Actually the TRYP simulator is simulating this which makes it feel more like a real drone...I was also practicing in the Liftoff before flying with the real drone and when flying the real drone, I kissed the ground because I was used to the simulator and didn't use enough of the throttle at the end of the fall 😁
That's awesome man! I've got around 50 hours of sim and about 2 IRL and def the sim helps a LOT! I master tricks on SIM before thinking about doing them IRL. If you're using the two-finger pinch grip on your controller sticks, letting go of the one that is responsible for YAW will help you keep a straight line for powerloops. In my case, its the index, thumb does the throttle. Good luck!
Did really well! You'll get better as you get used to your drone and once you dial your tune in. One thing the sim doesn't do a great job of teaching you is how prop wash and ground effect affects the way a drone behaves irl
I'm in the stage that I've got my drone, glasses, batteries, and I am waiting for my transmitter. I already have around 50 hours of simulator and I've got 15-20 days more of waiting for the transmitter. So the day I'll finally fly, I'll be in the same level with you on this video. I hope I'll make it like you my friend.. you did it great!!! Thanks for the inspiration ;)
I was going to start with buying a beginner drone (kids) but now you have proven with enough practice in a simulation it can be done! which means more money to go into your actual build thanks for the great video and happy flying
That was pretty good for a first time out. I didn't spend too much time on a sim when I started and I was flying auto-level and yoyoing up and down trying to get throttle control. It was so frustrating. After I dedicated about 60 hours on Liftoff in Acro mode, I was able to fly decently. . But as you no doubt noticed, flying IRL isn't quite the same as the sim. Now you just have to learn how your quad responds to get a feel for it. Play with rates. And if you want to get into the weeds more, maybe adjust the tune.
I'm doing the same thing. Putting time in and learning in Liftoff while waiting for my drone to arrive. Great first flight! I hope mine goes as well :D
FPV Sims are for winter months and rainy days. Now it's summer so go out and fly. You can't compare a Sim with real flying like we can see in this video. Your learning curve is strong at the beginning. All that counts is stick time! 👌🍻 Btw: Add some expo to your rates. It will feel better and look smoother.
I always find this interesting to watch. When i started FPV there were no simulators and learning to build and fly was a painful process of trial and error. You were flying like someone with many hours of practice from the get go here.
Mate, Ive been a fan of your content and just built my first drone. Thanks for sharing your journey, just wanted to say it was one of the inspos to do my first vid. I remember watching this one 2 years ago and thought it was sick.
That is really reassuring! Today I finished my 6th hour in liftoff and already feel way more comfortable compared to the frist 3. I too plan to sink way more hours into the sim before trying my first actual flight! Cool video!
great first flight man. Nothing beats thatt firstt flight adrenaline. Props to you for putting the hours in beforehand to feel confident in your first take off
You are my motivation. I have enough money to buy an FPV now but I'm going to hold out until I can complete some races without fkn up. I am using the same Sim and also drl racing. I fly normal drones now but it's not even worth mentioning because it's night and day.
Nice 1 brother! Welcome to FPV! I hope you are stubborn and persistent, because you need to be to stay in this hobby. Especially when you start having to build, repair and trouble shoot. There's plenty of help though. Joshua Bardwell is THE man!! ❤😊
Thank you for introducing me to a type of drone I didn't know existed... the freestyle drone that uses DJI control and display equipment. I've been hesitant to pull the trigger on a DJI drone because I thought I'd be locked into only DJI drones after that, unless I wanted to buy another radio & goggles.
Dude this was actually nice. I just bought my first parts for the drone and need to assemble. I got like 15 hours in simulator but definitely need more
haha you can probably do it if you can complete a liftoff race, no need for 100 hours I just had nothing else to do! But I will say I think it has definitely minimised my crashing
@@andyescapes I've completed races before I just want to do them super smoothly and have good control of it. I original bought the DJI Fpv drone but felt like building one would be better
This was really cool. I guess the simulators really work to train with, like really well! I've been in FPV since 2018 and only flown on Liftoff a handful of times. I've never learned air mode and still only fly on angle mode but I guess I should get on Liftoff and get some practice! Subscribed! :)
This was a good flight man! I've just got my first tiny learning quand and spending first hours in simulator, anticipating the first fligth. So I was scared as fuck when you barely dropped the quad in very first attempt :D Good luck!
So So So lucky to have the Evouge and HD cam and HD goggles and go-pro for your first drone. My first drone was the 1 inch Hubson no goggles no cam in 2012 and I still use analog to this day. 😭
Thats crazy goes to show how good simulators have gotten great job dude!!! I fly planes and jets very very well but drones and helis are quite a bit different haha gonna work on drones then Helis seeing how Helis are hardest imo!!
Imagine how many crashes and how much money you would have spent without the hours in the sim. I started this hobby before there were any good sims like Liftoff. Very smart way to get into the hobby especially if on a budget.
One thing not mentioned is if you want to apply your experience in Liftoff to real life, then be sure to use the same controller you will use for the drone. Should be your first purchase.
WELL DONE!!! and welcome to the hobby this is how I learned only I had no simulator was on analog and built my own drone needless to say your first flight was far better than mine lol
I've been playing dcl the game(I know it's not the best but I got it for free) I've only been playing 3 hours and I'm about as good in the game as you are in real life. So high hopes when I get my first fpv drone.
Haha I feel your stress hehe I went through the same process, though I didn't play 100 hours in Lift Off. Maybe around 15 hours or so and I flew a Cineloop iFlight Protek 25 to start. :) Keep up flying!
Still, would be nice to have reference video on how well you did in the sim before grabbing the real thing. Maybe it's the same, maybe lightyears away. 100h in sim is very personal and doesn't mean much.
100 hrs in the simulator is crazy most people I think could fly in manual or acro mode in 10 to 20 hrs I had never flown in manual and I was able to do it in ten hrs
I used to be really good at flying scout helicopters in Battlefield 4 and my Avata 2 is arriving tomorrow. I've downloaded Liftoff but haven't tried it yet. Do you think flying helicopters in Battlefield would also translate to FPV skills? You get the same axis if control as with an FPV drone.
What is your full setup??? Im just getting into FPV and have a similar plan to sink a lot of hours into a sim. But I am unsure about what drone to get seems all confusing!!
I went from toys in horizon and angle mode to 20 minutes in sim to building my own quad crashing it a lot to rebuilding it a lot and now im just as good as i started. 😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
This video was great, felt like I got the first hand experience myself of flying it for the first time. This made me feel more confident to buy one irl!
