If you are in Moonrise Tower with Gale, and find the secret room in Balthazar bedroom, you can have him destroy a dark rune to gain a permanent Advantage on Concentration checks.
@deathshade777 confirmed? The +20 hp covered at end of the video also says till long rest, but it stays on through the long rest. The concentration long rest May be the same
Important note on the Tharchiate Vigour: It is, in fact, permanent. After each long rest, the buff resets, giving you 20 more temporary hit points. Or so it did, at least on my first playthrough.
Same here. I thought it was a "one time until first long rest" kind of thing, but on both my play-throughs it was permanent and "reset" after each long rest. BTW: Finishing the Necromany is not what gives you the debuff (or, eventually, the buff). It's reading that codex you find inside the sorcerer's vault. On my second play-through, I paid a bit more attention to this. I read the codex (that enables you to finish reading the Necromancy) and *that's* what gave me the curse/debuff. I then used Shadowheart to lift the curse before I touched the Necromany again and that removed the debuff and turned it into the Vigour-buff. After that, I finished reading the Necromancy and got the "Danse Macabre"-ability for it.
yeah, just removing curse on urself will change the debuf to Tharchiate Vigour. love the buff, and it is indeed permanent. once u lose the health points, they won't come back until the long rest, thats what the long rest does with that permanent buff. unless my shiz was just bugged.
If you allow the torture expert, the follower of Loviatar, found in the goblin camp in act 1, to beat you and you make the skill checks, you gain a pernamnet buff called Loviatar's love which gives you a +2 to attack rolls and a +3 to wisdom saving throws when your hp is at 30% or lower.
@@mari-anneThere must be either a bug associated with the buff or some way of losing it because I lost the buff before I even finished act 1. Possibly if your character dies and has to be revived…?
Its permament permament, the only way you lose it is if the character that has it has a perma death, as in grey skull and stuff, which in insanely rare to happen and if that happens you are probably beyond losing the fight so just reload.@@patrik3482
Important note on the Hag. She will NOT initiate the dialog to beg for her life if she is silenced. So if you do have her trapped/pinned where she can't move out of Silence (like a lot of people do), just be sure to end the Silence spell when she's at 13ish XP in order to trigger the dialog.
Or, you can also active to your passive to avoid kill ennemies and throw a potion on her body when she is knock out and then the dialogue will start. That worked for me
Also while we talk about hag, unbroken promises is permanent buff +2 str BUT every long rest you get -1 thereafter. Solution? Use it on final fight or just jump to death because the buff is removed thru death
Oh shoot, thanks man, i like 70 hours past that, but i saved when she had liike 10 hp, and canceled the silence then, and i could not even knock her out, she straight died and i was so confused why she did not give me the hair, thought it was cuz i was paladin and told her the special paladin line before the fight
@@yvanbayer1259 You are right, the funny thing is the game is even helping you early on, this is the exact zone (the masked controlled elves part) where you get the first ever tooltip of how to toggle non-lethal attacks. It's like they don't want you to miss the dialogue and have a chance at it. Unfortunately even with that, a lot will probably silence kill her, so it's likely that at least 50% of playerbase missed the dialogue on first playthrough.
If you succeed on all the saves in the Githyanki Creche Infirmary, you get a permanent buff making your Illithid powers use Bonus Actions instead of Actions. If you Purge the memory of a Githzerai Mind in the Necromantic Laboratory part of the Mind Flayer Colony in act 2, you get a permanent Githzerai Mind Barrier, which gives advantage on int saves.
I don't know if anyone else has mentioned it, but you can more easily access the karsus and elminster’s vaults by using the level 2 transmutation spell "knock", locks removed :)
Yeah, but that's a level 2 spell slot for each cast, I got better things to spend those on. Okay, not really, I ended up with way too much food without spending any camp supplies ever, I could've long rested whenever I want, but..... Idk, feels wasteful.
In the sorcerer's vault, there are 2 hidden chests both in each elminsters and karsus' room. Use see invisibility or the potion to unveil them. They have a hammer and a helmet among other things in them!
There's also two secret rooms behind illusory walls in the path to the *Ramazzith* door behind a chest in each of the antechambers. One has another book with a unique scroll in it (summon Deva) and the other has a Djinni's lamp
If you absorb the power of the githyanki creche parasite removal machine, all your illithid powers permanently become bonus actions (instead of full actions)
You dont need to remove the curse for the book. Once you get it, read Necromancy of Thay once again and it will provide you with a buff. It also resets every day, which means once per long rest you get additonal 20 HP not just once overall.
Having read the tharchiate tome and re-reading the necromancy of thay let you access the most broken spell in the game. It let you summon 6 ghouls for the price of only an action (no corpses needed) and refresh every short rest. I don't know if you need to have encountered the Lich but he's the one who gave me the quest to get the tharchiate tome after finding out I read the necromancy of thay
Also after reading the book again, your raise dead gets two new summons, ghouls and winged ghouls. They stack with the new skill you recieve as well, so you can have up to 8-10 undead at a time if you have enough bodies to utilize.
The ghouls paralyze on hit with a save, which is busted. My pally/lock used the ghouls before engaging Raphael. Had one of them land a hit to paralyze him, then took my pally into melee. Paralyzed mobs are guaranteed to be hit, and guaranteed to be crit, so I melee’d 3 times, crit three times, which meant 3 lvl3 smites which also crit. I took him from like 650hp to just above 300 in a single turn, it was amazing
Dualhand!, use the cambion summon sword that you get from saving mizora and the shadowlantern, now you can have ghouls. Wraith and cambion WEEEEEE, on a spore druid cleric for extra living weapon and woodland dyrad
If you use the mind reading machine in mind flayer colony with the first mind jar you find in the tutorial ship, you get a permanent buff to int saving throws
The book in elminister’s vault, allows you to further read the book of necromancy which will give u access to a lvl5 evocation spell that allows you to summon 6 ghouls.
I like your spirit, but you've got it a little mixed up; the book in the Elminster's vault curses the one that reads it. Upon dispelling the curse that character gets +20 temporary health for the remainder of that day and after each long rest. The lvl 5 evocation spell is located in Karsus' vault.
@@puhoyzzee4364 a 5th level spell would summon 1 ghoul, Thay does 6 which is 2x level 6 upcast of the spell. It is insanely powerful. Necromancy in general is very strong but tedious to play because you need to control way too many characters.
@@alexanderhellinger6062He is talking about gaining the ability to finish the Necromancy of Thay, from act one, which is in the book about Thayan necromancy you find in act 3. Finishing the last page of Necromancy of Thay gives the ghoul ability.
For Auntie Ethel fight, you can use a rain spell on the cage to prevent the fire from destroying it or throw a water item like a water bottle or caraf of water etc etc
@@Zzarth Using create water or any thrown water gets Mayrina wet (ha) and then you can identify the hag super easy as she wont have the wet debuff when she takes Mayrinas form.
In ACT 1 goblin camp there is a torturer if you ask him to beat you up many times you will also gain permanent Lovistars buff that gives increased dmg and attack chance if you are below 30% hp very good for somoene like barbarian
Honestly, how powerful the Potion from Moonrise tower is just makes me belive more that Larian wanted to have powerfull stuff in the game that would come with consequences, but just ended up scrapping the consequences alltogether for time sake... (same with the tadpole. Using it in Act one always implied that its a risk, but there is 0 downside from using it all the time, same with the Mirror in Act 3, that its just a curse, you can super easy get rid of makes me think they either didnt want or didnt have time to finish those things))
this is intended. its permanent, temporary hp that resets after long rest. meaning once the 20 hp is gone for that given "day" its gone until you rest.
An important thing to note, the temp hp you get from the book in the last section of this video, it refreshes once after every long rest. It's pretty useful if you know you're going to be going into a boss fight, and the buffer is pretty nice regardless because it's less healing you need to use of squishy characters, like casters, between long rests. You also get a very powerful summoning spell from doing this that lets you target a dead humanoid body and call up to six ghouls to aid you in combat. Throw all of this on a character like an oath breaker paladin, who can burst down a single target with a couple of all in great weapon master auto crit smites from mind flayer/item powers, and you have a tanky undead leader who can swarm a room with a troupe of undead, that can paralyze humanoid enemies and split the fire focuses of huge encounters. Small Edit: As of the last patch, the summon spell is pretty nerfed. You only summon 4 ghouls now instead of 6, and you don't control them anymore. They're considered "allies", and aren't healed by things like mass healing word, and I think they may have neerfed the ghouls hp as well, I cant remember what it was at before, but I think it was something like 49, and now it's 20.
If you buy the Ring of Mind shielding from Ourlmeeum (the friendly mindflayer in the underdark) in Act 1 and you wear it during the final encounter of the game, it gives you a hidden prompt in the final encounter of the game.
The 3 ogres in the blighted village. One drops a head piece that sets intelligence to 17. I convinced them to fight for me for gold, had them help me with the big metal dude at the grymforge and they made a very noble sacrifice. Good headpiece and great armor in one go.
- You can also gain a permanent +1 to Charisma from Patriar's Memory at the mirror of loss alongside the +2 to any stat. When you choose to sacrifice a stat there is a chance that you automatically get Patriar's Memory (or sometimes nothing at all) instead of a stat of your choosing. However to get both you have to make sure to get Patriar's Memory first, preferably before you offer a prayer, otherwise the mirror locks up for that character. You likely have to save scum. - You can gain a permanent Tasha's Hideous Laughter spell if you accept to take on the Laughing Monk's curse and succeed the saving throws. - You can let Priestess Gut brand you with the mark of the Absolute which adds a character tag that unlocks new dialog options and properties on certain Absolutist items.
There are also some tadpole perma buffs: - Omeluum in the Underdark unlocks a new ability. - Going through with the githyanki extraction procedure makes tadpole powers cost bonus action instead of an action. There may be more as well, but I am trying to do a 'pure' playthrough, where I avoid the tadpole powers like the plague :P
I believe you can get permanent advantage on intelligence saving throws by interacting with githzerai brain in a jar using device beneath moonrise towers. Also, if you make a hefty donation in act 3 in the temple in lower city it gives +2 to all saving throws
The "vigor buff" is not the main purpose of that book, that is a nice bonus you get on top of it. While you have the debuff, Tharciate withering, you read the necromancy of thay again and you get a spell to summon 5 ghouls. You are welcome :3
You can actually meet Araj Oblodra again in baldurs gate, this time she will give you a potion that changes it so whenever your character is hit in melee they explode and dmg all surrounding characters/items with fire damage.
Another source of ability buff that is insane for rangers and rogues is a set of gloves you can buy from the quartermaster in the Githyanki Creche. This increase your Dexterity to 18! I respeced my character and dropped my dexterity to the minimum of 8 and these gloves still brought it up to 18. Really good if you want to give yourself more Constitution or other states at base.
Also Ester trader nearby sell the armor +2 dex +cat grace making it 20 dex for any dump gish, my reccomedation is monk 7 /warlock 5 since warlock extra attack bugged and stack to martial extra attack focus your stats into wisdom charisma and then cons Drueger is good for enlarge, shapeshift as drow for act1 ease
Be aware that if you are romancing Astarion during the Araj interaction for the potion, him biting Araj will end your relationship with him. ALSO this +2 bonus to strength you get can level your strength past 20, which is useful because that can increase your strength modifier from +5 to +6
Araj Oblodra can give you a second type of permanent bluff, if you have Astarion in your party, and have a romance with him, but you decide to NOT make him DRINK her tainted blood - you can met Araj in Act 3 again, and then she can give you a potion, which would add your blood some "explosive" features. It can be light up by flames, to burn your enemies. Also she can act as a trader for you, if chosen the proper dialogs (she needs your blood for experiments), but it won't give any stat boosts, so you will lose those. This kind of actions doesn't end your relationship with Astarion, and - while i personally think it's less good, than the other potion - you still can get some bonus out from it.
Also important note on the Hag Hair. If you have it in your bag when the Owlbear cub first visits you at the camp for the first time, the cub will eat the hair. Don't be me and notice the item disappearing 6 hours after the encounter.
It goes away with a long rest, but probably don't want to risk a long rest in the middle of a chase sequence. Sometimes long rests can mess with quests if the timing makes sense.
@@Zalgack Just look at her model. The Girl is pregnant and the Copy Ethel turns into is not. A simple but also nice little detail, but you could also just simply inspect or use other ways to determine who is who.
If you do quests for the myconids (mushroom people) in the underdark in Act 1 you get a "permanent" 1d6 to every d20 roll in that area (aka near their colony). You have to kill the duergar and glut and get promoted to kin spirit. You can't take it with you through the rest of the game though obviously. It's called something like "Bliss Spores".
There's a newborn mindflayer you can feed at the start of act 3. The narrator says you get some kind power from doing it but I couldn't figure what it was. The wiki for this quest is empty.
Outside the Hag's house is a well, if you drink you get 10hp until long rest, you can drink every day with every character and its in act 1 (the next day you will get a debuff that makes you sick )
Also worth knowing you can read further in Necromancy of Thay after reading the Tharchiate Codex, If you succeed you're rewarded with a powerful spell Danse Macabre, probably one of the most broken abilities in the game
It's not permanent, but it's reapplayed long rest buff for 1d4 Radiant damage for all your party. Just go to Rosymorn Monastery in a room with altars, when you get dawnmaster's crest, and pick up any of ceremonial weapon, and then just place is back to altar. Congrats, u got a buff again until long rest. Very useful :)
Seeing you drink that potion when you were on 18 Str broke my heart. All you needed to do was hold onto it until your next ability score increase, then you can take it to 22 which you normally cant.
you missed two if i remeber correctly, theres a brain in a jar located in the end of the area filled with zombies in the end of act two that gives you an permanent upgrade , that blood drow gives a second permanent upgrade if you meet her in baldur's gate.
For Auntie Ethel, can confirm that below 20 seems to do it. The threshold might even be higher. I haven't done the encounter enough times to figure out the exact value. Hopefully this will help some people avoid needing to reload a bunch. :) My strat is to stop hitting her when she falls below 30 and let her have a turn to see if she surrenders. Both times I've done this my final hit brought her below 20 though so I haven't figured out if 30 is the threshold or not. EDIT: Also might be able to toggle everyone to nonlethal attacks just in case? I was running a spellcaster heavy group; not sure if that works on spells.
I had nonlethal damage toggled, and her hp stopped at one, but that might have been coincidence. The last hit was really close and might have brought her to 1 naturally. Also, she was silenced, and I had to drop the silence before the cutscene would trigger. Which makes sense. Great game.
1 call out is that if Strength is your primary ability it might be better to use ethel's hair elsewhere as there are gauntlets that let you reach 23 Str which wouldn't be possible through feats and modifiers otherwise.
Technically you could get your strenght to 20 and then drink the potion of everlasting vigour to get the same effect, usefull since there are also a pair of gloves that give +2 to attack and damage rolls
Yea I was hitting myself in the butt when I found those 23 gloves in the house of hope. I think theres a con equivalent there too but as an amulet. Closest thing for dex was set at 18. I havent been able to find any other similar items that set your ability scores.

but if you had her silenced from the start, there's no fakes nor mayrina switchups..and silence is really what you should be doing in fights against known spellcasters especially when you cast it as ritual in just a single action rather than the lengthy time in tabletop. silence then command/frighten effect with maybe the help of portent dice and/or cutting words makes her just stay in the silence field for all your martials to beat her up.
@@pul0y If you want to cheese the fight by attacking while she is in dialogue sure, why get “ambushed” in an rpg game anyway, every fight should start with you first
Easily best perma upgrade is in the creche- if you pass all the checks for the 'healing' machine, all your illithid powers become bonus actions instead of actions letting you do absolutely bonkers things
350Hrs and i never found the house of grief/ mirror of loss even though i went deep with shadowheart. This game is incredibly large. Can easily miss things or never even find them/ do something that removes all chance of finding an item. Best game ive played since Skyrim came out
You can guarantee the 25 mirror roll with a respec. Go 1 into Knowledge Domain Cleric and 11 into Rogue, max invest into intelligence, equip the mage's friend ring and get an ally with guidance. You end up with a net +13 to religion checks, +1 from ring and at least +1 from mage's friend for a total of +15. Level 11 rogues can't roll less than a 10 for their checks, so you get at least exactly 25.
You forgot to add in ACT II worm extraction machine. If you use it yourself instead of Lezel, you get a perm buff of All worm actions counted as a bonus action.
If yourr playing gale aswell you can absorb the half spider guys body (in act 2 shadowlands) to get a shadow spell slot which is just another lvl 3 spell slot
Worth noting that there's a way to get Auntie Ethel's stat boost but also kill her, for those who hate the idea of letting her live for roleplaying reasons, but can't pass up on the ability point. 1.) Start the fight without one of your party members present, and keep them just outside the boss room at a safe distance away to not get aggro from Ethel or the clones. 2.) Get Ethel low enough to where she tries begging for her life, preferably as low as possible to where the next hit will kill her. Savescum if needed. 3.) After passing the dialogue check to get the stat boost and save Mayrina, use the Switch Character button in the bottom left corner of the screen to swap to the character who is out of combat. This pauses the dialogue while you can freely control them. You'll notice that as soon as swapping to this character, you can choose the type of stat boost to get from Ethel's hair as your quest reward, but she and Mayrina are still present. 4.) Kill Ethel while she's talking to your other party member. If your character is spotted by Ethel, they will be forced into the conversation with no way out but to let Ethel leave alive. I would recommend using stealth and staying out of her sightlines before taking her out with a ranged weapon or spell. If you did this right, Ethel will die, and Mayrina will chew you out as usual for killing Ethel as if you didn't spare her or take her deal. The quest journal also reflects this, saying that Ethel has died. Despite this, you still have Ethel's hair, and can use it on a character of your choice to improve an attribute. A word of warning, though, I'm not 100% sure if going about it this way will break a Paladin's Oath, if you happen to have one in your party. Paladins of Vengeance specifically will break their oath if they take the deal and let Ethel live under normal circumstances, however. Also worth noting that if you do this, Auntie Ethel's body will disappear, along with all of her lootable items. Thankfully you can buy the staves she owns while she's still a merchant in the Druid's Grove, so if you did that, you're not missing out on anything crazy besides being able to cast Speak with Dead on her for some dialogue.
Ho damn i hated the idea of letting her go, as a drow i just didn't care about breaking a supposed deal with a hag who openly screw everyone with her silly deal.
not sure but if I think Volo died and you looted him, having the eye on you also helps to see the invisible. At least that's how it was for me one game run, so didnt need to sacrifice a pretty eye. or unique eye in the case of the Dragonborns flamey eyes
The point wont show up on the creation screen when you respec but it will be there after you are done. Like if you take the extra point in INT and then respec to have 17 INT, it will be 18 after you confirm and go back to the game.
Abdirak is a acolyte of pain in the goblin camp. If you indulge him through every dialog check and have him beat you down to 30% health, you get a permanent buff that gives you a better chance to hit and increased damage if you're ever before 30%. I thought it was until long rest but it followed me all the way until the end of the game.
Dear Lari and modders, please give us an option to disable the camera snapping and auto zooming out when making a ranged action in combat, and to disable the camera jumping to a character when I press F1 - F4. It should only jump to them when I double press it. Thank you!
For the Necromancy of Thay if you struggle against the Spiders you can wait until you have finished all the Underdark quests (i.e. before progressing to the next act). I was level 6 by then and getting the Dark Amethyst was easy. You can also complete the Underdark quests including forging the Adamantine items and then travel the overland route to the Moonrise Towers as well.
spider boss is easy to do at any level, you just lure her onto the webs between platforms then firebolt the webs to take 1/3rd of her health with fall damage, repeat until she dies
Honestly though, since you can equip gauntlets you find in Act 3 that boost STR to 23 already, that potion isn't really all that necessary if you saved any of the previously mentioned stat boosting items like the Hag's hair to put you at 24. That potion is better served on one of your other STR based party members like Karlach or Lae'zel
@@davidcrawford5324 Dosnt work like that... if you put on the gloves and use the hair it will still remain at 23 couse it only adds to your base value... best is tu also use it with the stat bonus you can get from shar temple mirror... maybe i remember it wrong but is it + 2 more from there so you can get it to 25
The +1 from auntie ethel's boon also surpasses 20. I just tried it. But you should be careful with both of those because there are gauntlets that set your strength to 23 and an amulet which gives you constitution 23. So, if you're playing a paladin for example, it might be better to use auntie ethel's hair on charisma instead of strength and to give that +2 strength potion to lae'zel or karlach instead. ;)
@@The1Mischief ^^ It's not so bad. Again, you don't need 23 strength, 23 constitution, 20 dexterity and 20 charisma with your paladin. ^^ (edit: typo)
Kinda funny that you sounded dissapointed with the codex because its not standalone, together with necromancy of thay you get the actual effect of the items

Given the immense difficulty you have trying to get him to see you as a romantic interest in the first place, That's some handy info. I notice the mirror of loss grants +2 up to 24. How does this interact with the Birthright hat which is limited to 22? Can I get to 24 if I equip in the right order? or will the higher Charisma cancel out the hat?
funny thing, when you talk about the last part of the game at the wizard shop in act 3 if we are includiong that, you can also drink from the hags well once to get a +10 hp at the very early part of the game, very useful to get to her and fight her if thats what you are interested in
There's one in the goblin camp in act one. There's a guy whipping himself in the dungeon, if you let him whip you for a while, it gives you a permanent buff.
To be honest, strength and constitution improvement are kind of wasted as you can get the gloves and necklace from Raphael house of hope that set Strength and Con to 23. My suggestion is if you want to get abilities improvement get the others (Dex, int, Wis & etc.)
True, however sometimes you truly need stats from other sources. For example when i tried Tavern Brawler monk there was a dilemma to use gloves that buff unarmed strikes or the ones you spoke about
