After a full year, we're back at the firing range, to experiment with new fun duels and for that, we also moved from MoW to GoH, for better graphics, models, animations, textures. Today we have MG42 vs M249. One side infamous buzzsaw, another side modern infantry support gun, with smaller caliber but less recoil, allowing longer burst shots. Which one claims victory as a better machine gun?

It's a question of role. The SAW is designed to be light and portable at the expense of range and stopping power. The MG-42 is designed for a little of everything, but is famously good in a defensive position, which is essentially what we had here.

well the problem here is the mg 42 never had the mg 34's drum magazine it is a texture problem cuz modelling the belt feed is kinda hard so as you said he compared two different types of weapons it should have been the mg 34 instead

@@wolfgang6157 That isn’t a drum magazine, it’s a hollow drum containing a 50 round belt. Both the MG42 and MG34 had that.

I had a friend that was stationed in Germany for some reason I can't remember one of the German Machine Gunners had a "MG-3". It was a MG-42 rechambered in 7.62x51 Nato with a stiffer spring and the MG-42 was crossed out and the Third Reich Eagle was ground off and under the crossed out MG-42 they just put MG-3. That's how similar that some of them are just refitted MG-42's. They are its the same weapon still being made rechambered and with about the same rate of fire the MG-3 being averaged at 1,000-1,200 rpm compared to the the MG-42 being around 900-1500 rounds/min depending on the bolt with a average around 1,200 rounds/min depending.

It's more of a question of rate of fire and caliber. MG42 fires a full power cartridge, and its rate of fire is not reduced. It is not so practical on the modern battlefield to fire so much ammunition so quickly. Even in the game where such a rate of fire is way more advantageous than on an actual battlefield you would notice that German machineguns, both the MG42 and the MG34 run out of ammunition the fastest, as they both have the fastest rate of fire, but they are effective.

Considering that the M249 is behind in the rate of fire department by about 300 rounds a minute; it did fairly well under the circumstances.

@@barron8006 At long range you have to shot it with short burst's for accuracy. It would overheat very quick after 4 seconds of Rapid fire, if you can imagine that it shots 7.98mm Mauser (thats a Big Rifle round) with 1200 r/p/m.

ROF wasn’t even a factor in this challenge. It was just mostly accuracy and Idk which MG would outclass the other in accuracy, but to me that was the factor that held the most weight.

Mg42 frie rate is 1200 to 1500 and mg3 fire rate is only 1200, so the mg is faster than the mg3

Considering that the Mg42 is still used today (MG3 with correct changes to original design) shows how well it was built for the it's time in 1940s. Just like the M2 Browning 50 caliber.

In fact , rate of fire for the MG42 was more faster than the 249s.. But 249s was lighter and less recoil than the MG42..

You’re comparing 7.62x51mm against 5.56x45mm. As accuracy is less important in a firefight like this, of course the MG42 would emerge superior given its higher ROF and the longer range offered by the 7.62x51mm round

Только в реальности одним MG.42 можно косить траву, а уж что будет если пулеметчиков так выстроить в одну линию.... P.S. MG.42 обслуживают два человека, сам пулеметчик и его помошник который меняет ствол.

Nah the canucks use a variant of the FN MAG (C6) in the GPMG roles and a variant of the FN Minimi (C9) in the SAW role

@@bloq6758 The MG3 was on the Leopard 2A6s that we leased from Germany, those batch of 20 Leopards were returned to the Germans after the Afghanistan campaign. However the tanks we purchased from the Dutch and kept after the war were outfitted with the C6 GPMG for part standardization

The difference is that the SAW is more accurate and can be used as a rifle in short bursts while the mg42 is just Point and shoot

@@tom051The difference is in the difference of classes. SAW to create the fire density of a modern infantry unit. MG42 is a single machine gun for everyone, can be placed on a machine with optics, good ballistics of the cartridge and wild rate of fire give excellent accuracy at long distances.
