Instead of complaining about who should have been on the list, I am thankful to the NHL for putting a video like this together. It gives the fans an opportunity to learn about great players who played back in the day. Thank you National Hockey League!

@smokesletsgo2374 4 года назад
@@jackyl8259 The best players from the 50s and 60s would be absolutely destroyed by the worst players today. It's not hating, it's the truth. Players are simply bigger, stronger, smarter, way better nutrition, better equipment, better strategy, everything. Watch an old game in full, they can be easily found on youtube, and it looks like a beer league game. Could you imagine Gump Worsley or Glenn Hall going up against an Auston Matthews toe-drag, a Patrick Laine one-timer or an Ovie blast from the circle? No chance. It's not that the old timers were bad players, it's that it was simply a different time. Every single sport on earth is the same, players today are far better than anyone in the past

From this hockey fan from Philly who seen him play in person both in Boston and Philly. Orr was the best. Bobby played every game like Nick Foles did only once in the Super Bowl beating the Patriots in 2018. Greeting Kate Smith after she sang "God Bless America" at the final Game Six that the Flyers won The Cup was pure Orr class.

4:50:40 I agree with Stan Fischler. #5- Best defensemen of all-time. He didn't only score goals and assist, he played great defense unlike Coffey who kept getting caught in the offensive territory when the opponents were on the offense. Coffey was great, but i'd take Dennis. Soon as he retired The Islanders went from 1st place in 1988 to last the next season. In 1980 he missed 49 games and the Isles suffered but when he came back the Islanders finish strong going 12 games without a loss to finish the season. On power play he was the best. His passing was tops.

Neely is THE benchmark for a power forward, but while he was also a great goal scorer, I think he was left off the list simply due to injuries and a relatively short career (games played), and that he didn't score 400 goals.

I was 16 5’7 weighed maybe 155lbs. Soaking wet. Curios how fast my shot was? 78mph. Just sharing my story to someone who likes clappers.

The problem for me is the title of this list. The 100 Greatest NHL Players should be 100 "of the Greatest NHL Players". So it would not mean the greatest but of the greatest acknowledging there are great players not on the list. I would actually prefer that they would only put those who are retired on the list. It gives a history to those who are younger to learn about the many players before their time in their prime. So take Crosby, Ovie, Kane, Teows, Keith off etc and put on others then update and make it best of the 100 updated as of a date who are retired???? Or make top 150, so many to know of

I realize that intangibles factor into player selections (not just stats and cup wins), but there are several early players that probably do not belong on the list (more sentiment than actual achievement - incl a few early goaltenders). As well, there are several players that were overlooked: Dale Hawerchuk, Evgeni Malkin and Mark Recchi top the list of omissions, and if you're going to include Mike Gartner (awesome player but no cup), then you have to also include Dino Ciccarelli, Doug Gilmore, and Michel Goulet (all with similar numbers to Gartner). Goalies on the other hand, seem to be under a higher scrutiny. Stats alone does not win them a spot on the list. One or more cup wins seems to be a must (perhaps rightfully so). Notably absent in this regard is Ed Belfour, Marc-Andre Fleury and Chris Osgood.
@larrysmac
@larrysmac 2 года назад
I agree with goaltenders being overlooked. I can think of at least 4 worthy of consideration. I'm old enough to remember how great Gump Worsley and the Rangers' Eddie Giacomin were. Plus, 2 more Rangers to consider are Mike Richter and Henrik Lundqvist. I can't hang with Osgood however. I see him as mediocre with any other team-and I was born and raised in "Hockeytown."
