Ive got a open fire cooking grate and its come in so handy and ive used it just for practice I too also keep things on hand to give me flexibility to cook with I like you also have my camping supplies to fall back on and ive been very happy that I did its a plus it just gives ya piece of mind
I have always said the best way to become more prepared or self-reliant is to start with camping. No matter the situation, I can always count on my camping gear to get me through whatever the situation is.
Hello listening and enjoyed the story too. I added this to a preparedness playlist. Stuff like cast iron helps as it works with fire and solar. This was a grate video ;)
I have tried using cast iron but I've never been able to get it as non-stick as they do in the videos. Every time I used cast iron, I made a mess of everything I was cooking.
I have solar power stations so I got four Dash Mini Griddles and 12v 100w rice cookers. These work great. The Dash cookers are like little 350w George Forman grills. Plus I got an electric Instant Pot type 6 quart pressure cooker by Yedi to use with my big battery because beans, potatoes, and meat cook so fast under pressure and this saves battery capacity and fuel. If you have a power supply for a 750w electric one gallon water distiller it can distill one gallon in about 4 or 5 hours. If you have wood you can get one for using with that if you can cool the condenser coil.
I forgot to mention that Dash has an AC 200w mini rice cooker too. I plan to get one eventually for my small power stations. You can do a LOT with a rice cooker other than just rice. Lentils cook really fast and so do fresh shelled beans/peas and with a couple of low wattage rice cookers you can make a decent meal or boil water. I got the DC 12-24 volt 100w cookers because you can wire them up to solar panels if you need to. @@newageselfreliance
You can put water in a big pot and put a metal bowl inside it and flip the lid (if it`s a dome shape) over upside down and put ice or snow in the upside down concave part and when you heat the water in the pot it will condense on the interior of the upside down lid and drip into the metal bowl. This is an easy way to get distilled water if you need small amounts quickly for something crucial. @@newageselfreliance
How long does it take for your power stations to charge with the solar panels? My 500-watt Power Station takes about 5 hours to charge with two 100-watt solar panels. So I try to only use them sparingly.
They charge slowly. If I`m lucky my Bluetti EB70 can get a full charge in one day. I have two of those for a freezer plus a big faster charging 300ah Ampere Time battery and a generator. I grow and forage fruits and berries and have a vegetable garden so I have to be sure my freezer never thaws. I have two 500w power stations for a dorm fridge and 7 small 200 and 300 watt ones for lights, small fans, wifi and extra backup. Most of them have their own solar panels. It can be hectic during power outages moving panels all day as the sun changes. My big battery has a 2000w inverter for a tiny window AC in case another hurricane comes. But if I absolutely have to I can use some of its charge for my Bluetti`s to keep my freezer going or use the gas generator. They are saying there`s a big hurricane threat this year so I have to get ready for that and try to get everything set up and tested. I upgraded my input and output cables of the big battery and still need to rewire everything and test it. I hope I can get at least 600 watts input this year.@@newageselfreliance
From what I've read savethewater.org/removing-radioactive-contaminants-from-water/#:~:text=Carbon%20filtration%20is%20also%20effective,Active%20carbon%20is%20inexpensive. Activated Carbon should remove radiation from water. Meaning a Berkey style water filter should work. I don't use Berkey I use Waterdrop amzn.to/43iZ9Qo but I'm pretty sure they should work.
