I thank you so much for the info about telling the difference between determinate and indeterminate tomato i have asked several tomato experts but they all say you can't tell. I had a windstorm and all thehe labels fell off again thank you
Very helpful video sir. It introduced to me to concepts I didn't knew existed. Thank you. Can you please also make a video on where one can sell hydroponic cherry tomatoes or bell peppers so that hydroponic growers get a good rate per kg.?
Thanks. I will try and make a video on various sales channels for Hydroponic produce. That said, sales is very much a local activitiy and it differs from place to place.
@@TheGeekgardener maybe its a different name translation, I found some in the UK but shipping is 10x more than the seeds lol. Thanks im sure I can find some
Hi, another excellent content. I am considering roof top hydroponics garden, problem is there is a truss fabrication in place, means no direct sunlight. Is this a fools errand? We do have long and hot sunny days. Thanks
I am having problems with blossom drop. the flowers are drying out and falling off. I am using coco peat mixed with bark and perlite and vermiculite. they are watered once every day for 15 minutes. the leaves look good and healthy. why is this happening, could it be too much water?
Hi, This variety is called "Cheramy". Indeterminate varieties are several in India. Any seed company will have indeterminate varieties. Please talk to them and they will suggest you.
No. I don't consider it organic. Please refer to my Hydroponics FAQ video for my take on Hydroponics being organic or not ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-N1wFtQL0kLA.html
Very useful, Thank you very much. Want to know if so many leaves are required or we can start removing leaves from bottom? Also, can we still keep EC of 2 - 2.5 if the temperature is on higher side?
Thanks for your comment. The thumbrule is that you remove the leaves that are below the first truss of fruits. This variety of cherry tomato is actually generative in nature so a little more of those leaves dont hurt. But should you see more leaves and less fruits. Cutting down on the leaves without affecting their productivity is ok. We actually keept 2-2.5 at higher temperatures also. Tomatoes can handle upto 5-6 EC. But that will cause stress on the plant at higher temperatures. The best guide for that is to check the drip and drain EC for the growing media. That will tell you whether you are on the higher side or the lower side. sorry about the long reply.
Tomatoes are flowering but not setting fruits or they arent flowering at all. Plants not flowering can be due to them being in vegetative state. Wait for few days for it to flower. a picture of the plant will help.
Hi Mani, video is very nice and informative, I have a question on bloom nutrients, when we use Bloom A and B do we need to add Grow also in some qunatities are only Bloom A and B? if only Bloom then de we have to discard old solution and make new one with Bloom alone? what should be the EC at Bloom stage?
You can use water instead of cocopeat. But substrates always perform better for long term crops like tomatoes. The Dissolved oxygen demand is high for large rooted plants.

Hi! I just encountered this video of yours, and this is precisely what I was looking for. I wanna grow cherry tomatoes with cocopeat & perlite etc, but I'm really curious what nutrients & fertilizers to use - 1)- Right after germination. 2)- What plant growth fertilizers to use since transplantation to till flowering stage. 3)- And once it starts flowering, what blooming fertilizers to use? If you could please share any detailed videos on this, that'd be of great help.
Someone has played a trick on me, my cherry Baxter Bushes are over 5ft. Nothing bushy about them, they're sun leaves are elongated. Six plants tapering down 1/2 ft per plant. They're all starting to flower so I'm treating them like indeterminates because they're indoors. Blooms everywhere and opening and closing as expected. I'm tapping, brushing and blowing pollen. It's my first tomato grow so imagine 6 hydroponic 5ftish crazy tomato plants in my living room ..😳 Blame my run on sentences on them teaching me indeterminate habits of not stopping. They're out of control so I'm out of control. They should have determined themselves so now up to me...wish me luck
Do you water the seedlings in the propagation tray from the top or the bottom? Also, do you harden off the transplanted tomato or do you put it in full sunlight immediately after transplanting?
Almost on all the farms I have setup, watering is from the top. Although bottom watering can be slightly more beneficial interms of not getting the leaves wet. All the seedlings are in full sun ( under a greenhouse) . We transplant in the evenings and next day they are in full sun. Hardening may be required if there is a large difference in parameters such as temp, humidity etc between the nursery area and planting area
I dont use the PPM but EC. I start with 1.8-2.0 and it goes upto 3+ when there is peak fruit load. Here is a video on EC vs TDS in case you need. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XO7Q1LWF9E8.html
Is the EC gradually started from let's say 0.5...0.6...0.7..0.8 and so on? This is before transplant what I am referring to... Also when you say for eg the range is 2.0 to 3.0 let's say, is that the Maximum range OR min-max range?
Propagation: I place the propagation tray on a solid tray and bottom water no more than 4mm in the bottom tray. I top water only once when the seeds are placed. I find it reduces molding in my area. Cheap Tomatoes: If you are late in the season and need more plants I look in the garden centers for transplants. What is left generally is very leggy which is why they are left over and about to be thrown away. I can usually get 4-5 6 packs for $1. When I get them home I repot them deep so the soil level is just below the first leaves. The entire stem will go to root and the plant will take off. A second succession for little money and no delay waiting for seeds to sprout.
Thank you so much for the tutorial informative .soon will try out hydroponic cherr tomato.very interested though I'm not not young . should have known the great enjoyment in planting or plantation .tq
Sir very informative video. Pl guide from where to get cherry seeds or is there a way to recognize cherry tomatoes from vegatable vendors to purchase. Pl guide
Does it attract pests, if yes how to take care of it? Is there any favorable season to grow these or can it be grown anytime without complication of infestation?
This is a classic problem with DFT systems as there is always more water than the volume you adjust pH and EC for. This drift is also possible due to the quality of the source water.
Hiii...Can u plain explain Half strength and full strength nutrient , and EC -2 TO 2.5 ..Which nutrient to use ( any brand ) and how to use as half and full strength and how to make a concentrate and how and how much to spray ?
For example, If the instruction is to give the full grown crop an EC of 2 mS/cm then the half strenght solution will have 1mS/cm. The half strength is suggested for younger plants. When it comes to feeding tbe plants, i prefer feeding the roots than spraying. Making a concentrate depends on the product.
I recently started growing tomatoes hydroponically. Plants were growing well untill leaf miner infestation started. I pruned a few leaves initially as soon as I spotted them. But I keep seeing them in newer leaves. How can I stop this infestation? Thanks
Leaf miner problem is quite common while growing tomatoes. The easiest way is to spot and remove them at the earliest stage. Spray the plants with neem oil twice a week based on the instructions. Bacillus Thuringiensis spray also helps.
Plants were growing well hydoponically till 2-3 weeks then leaves started turning yellow and curling. Newer leaves are also yellow . kindly provide solution.
Thanks for the clear and detailed explanation. It will surely benefit the new hydroponic growers. Sir, can you please indicate the minimum and maximum temperature and humidity required for this plant.
I just developed an interest in hydroponics and have watched some of the videos on your channel. Being an engineer, appreciate the contents being specific (and not generic nature). To start with, I would wish to have Tomato (with yield of about 1.5kg every week) at my private terrace (@ 1000 sft). Eventually, once sure of technology and economics it can be taken to commercial level. For one to one conversation where can I reach you?
Hello Mani Sir Your video and your 1 hour special class for me its helps a lot for my tomato plants. Before I watch your channel im suffering some issue on my tomato plant growth. Now I learn many tips and some mistakes that I did before. Thank you for support sir 🙏
Thanks for this video. I am not clear about how to water the plants. In a 12 inch pot you said it holds about 13 liters of media. Now if I want to automate the watering, how many liters of hydroponic solution would constitute one watering. Is pouring water from the top the best way or you have some tricks that I can use. I am trying to grow in the home balcony and want a optimal solution. Thanks in advance. --Raghu from Noida
Hi Raghu, Watering should be done in such a way that it saturates the entire media inthe pot. It should be done slowly. Top drip is the best way as it uses gravity and capillarity to spread through the entire substrate. Start the drip irrigation, wait for the water to get drained at the bottom. At that time you can note down the timing and set it for regular watering. Hope this helps
@@TheGeekgardener Hi Mani. I have been doing the Tomatoes potted in Cocopeat. I kept feeding them daily, with a nutrient solution for some time and the initial growth was great. Then they started to not grow tall and all the wonderful foliage started to get miniaturized on the top. Also they were in full Sun, which was rather strong. I think that problem also happened to my G.Basil Plants. Holy Basil kept doing great. Researching I could only find the reason to be that the concentration of the nutrients has got to be too much as every feed has nutrient in the 200-200-200 ppm NPK range. I am now trying to flush the grow medium with plain water to see if they will start to grow tall again. I need a smarter way to regulate the watering/nutrient system.. Your guidance would really help. Thanks and best. Raghu
Hello sir really appreciate people like you who help the complete beginners can you help me I grow my strawberry seedling inside with led light it’s been 10-15 days the set of leaf started to emerge could you suggest me the nutrition and dosage to time to give them ?
Thanks for your comments. For strawberries, I would suggest give a general purpose hydroponics fertilizer like this gardenguru.in/products/general-grow-500-liters If your medium is cocopeat, you need to water daily with nutrients. Adjust the right ec and ph. If you are interested in learning more in depth. You can also join my training. courses.gardenguru.in/courses/Master-Hydroponics-Workshop-62622c750cf26d4710841228?affCode=RQRWFY
if you are collecting seeds from a plant that grew from open pollinated or heirloom variety seeds, then it will grow into the same variety. if you are growing a plant from a hybrid seed, it is better to buy the seeds again from the seed source.
What you see in the video is not soil but coco peat used widely in soilless production of vegetables. Hydroponics doesnt mean growing only in water. substrate system of hydroponics is very popular for long term fruiting crops.
Sorry for the late reply. I get seeds locally in India. But in the past, I have had great experience with Johnny seeds, Botanical Interests, Paramount seeds etc

1.Can you cover Nutrient solutions ? 2.can it be made at home for hydroponics? 3. Can Nutrient solutions made organically? 4. Don’t want to buy readymade like A & B then mix.
Hello Sir, i have a question regarding cherry tomatoes and sunlight. I want to grow cherry tomatoes using kratky method, (passive hydroponic), in an area of my balcony that recieves sunlight in only area. So, for initial yield, i want to put my plant there. But when it starts growing, i want to make a trellis connection extending to the roof, which is completely shaded, because there is already infratsutructure there for the tomato plant to climb on. What should i do? Will the creeping plant require sunlight too or can it only be for the base plant?
Hi sir, i am about to rent a Venlo greenhouse 40-meter x 60 meter. It has grow lights and all but no hydroponics but drip system connection honestly we have to choose discharge rate. We are located in Mauritius island it is a tropical island temperature 15-35 degrees. I want to know what you plant round. Tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and others as rotation crop? We want to plant year round so normally what can we do as a rotational crop? can you help with a calender? What can we expect to yield per sqft or sqm?
Sir, my kind regards and hearty thanks for this video... I have questions about where I can buy large scale hydroponic nutrients for cheap price... or do I make my own nutrients? What do u suggest?
Thribhuvan, sorry for the delayed reply. If you are a starter in Hydroponics, I suggest you buy the nutrients that are ready made. Get yourself familiar with basics of growing plants in Hydroponics. As you progress, once you are fully comfortable with growing plants, identifiying deficiencies etc, proceed to learn to make your own nutrients.
Yet another outstanding video. Initially when I saw the length of the video I thought wow 18 minutes! this must be interesting. After I saw the video I thought it was very short. The 18 minutes just flew by. It is nice to see links to the nutrients in the description. One question that needs answering is how much nutrients are absorbed per day until flowering starts and then afterwards. The impact of temperature on EC. May be you could include this in your next video.
Thanks Srikanth. I had my reservations on posting a video that long but I couldnt squeeze all the content in a shorter format. Glad you found it interesting. I will for sure add these suggestions that you have provided in the next video. Happy gardening
As soon as they germinate, they need to be exposed to atleast 5-6 hours of sunlight. Longer duration and brighter light cause stocky and healthy seedlings
Hi your video and the content was awesome and helpful. You say we can fill coco peat , in hydroponics if we use coco peat as the grow medium how does the water flow ? And we have a problem of choking of pump! Can you clarify this plz
Hello, great video. Thank you. 1) Can you kindly mention what are the seasons for growing cherry tomatoes 2) How long does a plan yield tomatoes for, do you discard the plants after the harvest? 3) Whats the ideal temperature to grow tomatoes? 4) Is soil/compost a must while growing cherry tomatoes? Hope to hear from you soon
