100 Years of Girls School Uniforms | Glamour 

Nurse and chef were two of my careers. Uniforms are boring they do have a plus side.

We have a really strict policy for skirts on the knee but everyone rolls them up anyway and they can’t put us all in detention soo

sadly because my school doesn't allow us to wear whatever we want, we really need to wear our specialized uniform but we can still wear accessories and the like however, we aren't allowed to wear makeup except on school events

My second school (middle school/intermediate) the school uniform was a red pleated skirt with white stockings and a white blouse with those black buckle shoes and a dark green cardigan. And you had to have your hair tied up and have the right shoes for the right weather. And if you forgot your hat, you got punished and had to sit inside during break times. My first school (primary/elementary) had a summer dress and a winter dress. The summer dress was a checkered dress with small blue and white squares on it and it had buttons, and it was short sleeved, and you wore short socks with these flat shoes. The winter dress was dark blue (I think pinafore?) with a white long sleeve shirt underneath, and black stockings and buckled shoes. In the summer they made you wear hats, and you got punished by sitting inside during break times if you forgot. My school I'm in now, (highschool) has a black skirt, black stockings, a blue long sleeve blouse, and a black sweater thing. It is the first school where you could wear your hair any way you want, and you can wear any shoes you want. It is SO much better than strict uniforms. I see these american kids who get to wear t shirts to school. Like come on I want that so bad. I don't know why you want strict uniforms. A kid in my middle school got 3 detentions because he wore the winter shoes in the summer.

@@iguessimalittledramatic i agree that the current styles are uncomfortable but what they showed in this video for how these girls ages and the time periods they were representing were incorrect ive study every aspect of these time periods in great detail im a historian and the 1930s and 1940s are my specialty . The length that they showed would have only been correct on a girl much younger than them the girls in the videos are more adolescent/ preteens and by then it would have been consider unacceptable for a girl to wear anything that short. Dresses for the 1930s and 40s would hit the knee for adolescents/preteens . I'm very big on historical accuracy when it comes to representing different time periods .

Brown or black shoes only, brown black or blue socks only (no ankle socks, should be folded for girls). No false hair unless you have some form of illness (alopecia). Girls should always have on their school pins too.

My school uniform is ,navy waist coat ,navy jumper,blue and white tie with a collared long shirt with a long navy skirt and we have to wear leather shoes TvT

my core uniform is a Ugly green dress for summer, for winter is a brown skirt (or tunic for junior school) with a white blouse (or skivvy for junior school) and ugly brown tights, the boys uniform is brown pants/shorts and white shirt/t-shirt (THEY CAN WEAR PANTS OR SHORTS OR WHATEVER BUT GIRLS HAVE A WHOLE OTHER UNIFORM :C) OMG HOW COULD I FORGET THE UGLY GREEN SWEATER THING THAT IS SO ITCHY! and our sport jumper actually strangled me once it’s like a turtleneck sort of thing

also good for identifying students on school trips and can prevent bullying as not every child can afford to wear the latest trends, so some uniforms are free for those children!

I understand the thought behind them but I’m glad my school never had us wear them. Wearing clothes I liked was something that really helped my confidence when I was younger and dressing up is something I really enjoy/helps a lot with my mental health.

My experience was exactly the opposite. 😅 Even with everyone wearing relatively the same thing for practically the entire time I'd been in school, kids still got bullied for being poor or "unfashionable." They always find something.

At the school i went to they had to have the schools logo on them, and the school made us pay for them. It was a three strikes your expelled thing, my mom couldnt afford 150 dollars per shirt so i didnt last long there

Yeah when I saw that I thought how lucky we were to atleast not look like uh.. well like a salesperson or someone at a committee. Our uniforms are always short-sleeved blouses and plaid skirts that NEVER go above the knee or else you'll get told by the teachers. Sometimes they add neckties but that's just it. Our socks can be long or short, depends what we want. Which I guess makes sense since we have a hot climate, having thick clothes is not a way to go.
