Take a look back at the last hundred years of hair styling tools. From the bulky wave machines of the 1910s and the bobby pins of the 1920s, to the metal hair rollers of the 1950s and the hood dryers of the 1960s, see how hair styling tools evolved over the last century.

Hawaa Sarwary as per said in my above comment: “the styling tools are used for the hairstyles” these iconic styles were shaped by the tools, such as the mervin clips or pincurls-thick clips, even rag curls. (which, I was glad to see, but again, wrong time period) This was the norm for many women for decades, and although it’s not as popular anymore, people still use them. It just seems odd that they weren’t even mentioned. You’d be hard-pressed to find any of these items in the average person’s home.

The Gibson girl hair was totally gone by the 1920's! First you talk about the bob and then change it into the breadloaf hair. And that didn't look correct in any way. It's supposed to be smooth and symmetrical with only a few strands PULLED out if one wishes to. But in the 1920's women either cut their hair SHORT or pinned it to look like a bob. Wtf is that 40's hair too.

I teach reading and thought it was a bit too quick. You want to be able to read the text and then actually see what the individuals in the video are doing. They could have put up the text and have the models like frozen for a second and then proceed. Give the viewer enough time to read and then watch the models in action. There were also a few spots with unnecessary text and that could have been more concise.

Bobby pins are a variation of traditional hair pins, designed to hold back part of a short hairstyle. There was a trend for short hairstyles in the 1920s. "Gibson Girl" hairstyles and other long-hair updos were (and are) achieved using traditional hair pins. The traditional U-shape hair pin is so old it has no recorded inventor.

35 cents in today’s money is almost five bucks ($4.47 when you wrote this comment). For two bobby pins, that’s actually quite expensive.

Hair styling infomercials went crazy in the 2000s. I never realized.

Perms on machines were in toy factories in the 1930s back then! Even hair dryers were introduced to Emo rockers in the 2000s!

I made my own Topsy Tail in the 90s from a wire hanger and duct tape. Saved myself 20 bucks.

To actually get the curls you have to have wet to damp hair. For example, if you were to do the rag curls with dry hair, since the hair was already fully formed wouldn't be able to take the form of a curl.
