I've spent a huge part of the last week and a half sitting watching old DVD's and cutscenes from old games that look like they've been used to block a machette attack, waiting for just a single skip that never comes. I am absolutely blown away by how effective Novus is. Thankyou man. Here's to another well deserved 1000+

Each game I clean atones for a sin I committed by putting a sticker on a cover art! Gotta keep myself out of eternal damnation!

I guess you could say I really "cleaned up the place". But don't actually say that.

Hey Doug. I am catching up on your latest video. In just a few days I started from the oldest and now I am here. You and I sound very much alike, except for the germaphobe issue. lol!. Thank you for your passion for this work. Not too many care.

Love that you use wireless humidity and temperature sensors in your game room, I do as well. Just wondering what humidity level you like to stay under, and also what temperature? Thanks for the video 👍
@RestoreAndReplay
@RestoreAndReplay 2 года назад
Preferably you'd want 40%-50% relative humidity, and 68-72° for a gaming room, with a constant airflow and no direct sunlight (UV filtered or not), but that's not always possible. So close to those ranges will keep you in good sorts! But you'll also want to do 24 hour monitoring to see what happens at night. Depending on your area, you can have drastic fluctuations at night that you don't notice (colder at night is a common thing, but this also impacts the RH). A good consistent temp and humidity is much easier to manage than large flucuations. And of course you have to rebalance every season change, but it's def worth it!

21:55 I work in a store where we have a section with household chemicals. I like watching vids about cleaning games but it's difficult to get the matching chemicals if you're not from the US. Don't want to risk permanent damage on decades old discs with the wrong tools.

So the other day I was cleaning a badly scratched Xbox 360 game using your method with GameStop disc fixer. I accidentally let it dry a little too long and it was like chalk when I rubbed it off with a microfiber cloth . Do you think this did damage? I gave it two more passes after because I felt paranoid that I scratched it worse. Anyways I love your videos I’ve restored some horribly damaged discs by hand since finding your channel. Games I wouldn’t buy or would have gotten rid of a few years ago I feel confident fixing. Looking forward to your blu ray series, I have a lot of ps3 games i haven’t attempted yet. Thank you for your advice and detailed videos!

Man I love GameStop Disc fixer. Like a whole bunch. Alright, it likely won't do much at all even if you let it dry. The diatomaceous earth tends to soften and flake as it dries. (GameStop disc fixer is nearly identical chemically to Novus 2, so I'm super duper familiar with it). I actually let the polish dry a little bit to increase the roughness of the polish. It takes some trial and error but youll find how "dry" you should let it get. But if it gets too dry? It'll just flake away. Give it another few passes with disc fixer and it'll come right back to life. And if you are using OG disc fixer, you can add a little bit of water to the polish to help get it to a little more workable compound. That stuff had crazy short shelf life. The PS3 videos are going to be here soon! Since the method is the same for all Blurays I have to make sure I do one for each console, but still have to run each consoles disc through its own test and verification cycle. More work intensive, but creates more confident results!!

@@RestoreAndReplay Hey I know I'm late but I just wanted to say thank you so much for replying to me! I've saved so many discs using your methods! I'd still be really interested in how to do PS3 / Blu ray discs

Thanks for all the restoration tips, is there anyway to fix dent in a ps2 game?
@RestoreAndReplay
@RestoreAndReplay 2 года назад
So usually not. If that data later has been impacted at all, the disc is a loss. But not always.... How far into the disc is it dented? Can you see it on both sides?
@makaoo1187
@makaoo1187 2 года назад
@@RestoreAndReplay its visible on on the down side(shiny side), and it is between middle and inside, dont remember accurately been some time since last seen the cd. Diameter of the dent is about 2-3mm, the game still runs but only some levels work and some music tracks are missing or they dont work correctly

Any helpful advice on yellowing consoles? I’m seeing some early consoles that were retro-brighted are now starting to yellow again
@RestoreAndReplay
@RestoreAndReplay 2 года назад
You'll likely never see me make any posts about Retr0briting. Why? Because it's a temporary fix. That's just how it does. (Here come all the angry comments). Essentially all you can do is Retr0brite the console again. And again. And again. When you Retr0brite, all you're doing is temporarily removing/altering the chromophores (the things that make the discoloration) temporarily. But the cause of the discoloration is the bromine within the plastic itself. So until you remove every speck of bromine within the mixture of the plastic, you'll never fully whiten a console. I keep my consoles nice and yellow. Why? Because that's technically how they're supposed to look, if we let it age appropriately. Not the most fun answer, but it's the science. (I will be doing an explanation video getting into the science of it, but to me it's akin to just painting a console temporarily).

I really like watching your video. Doing research I cannot find bestine product in Canada. Does Ronsonol can be a good alternative ?
@RestoreAndReplay
@RestoreAndReplay Год назад
So Ronsonol is basically lighter fluid. It will not work the same way, too much additive to dry fast enough (it will work for some things, but not in the same regard as Heptane). I don't know why Canada is being restrictive to heptane importing, but I've been working on a few other alternatives.
