I recommend the XLX2 1721 2400kv Speed motor build for 2 reasons. 1. Being that the 1721 2400kv motor comes with NO WARRANTY and will void your ESC warranty as well. So people need to know how to properly set it up to not blow there system. 2. The 1717 1650kv motor with the MMX8S is a work horse and can be very versatile. Plus has a warranty. Thanks hope this is good enough reason.

This should be the only option. Your doing speed runs so why bother with the other setup? If you got the other, you would wish you chose this one. #Facts

XLX2 with the 1721 would be epic.

The 1721 is a 150+ mph motor. It would be interesting to see you have a go at it, but the 1717-1650 is a much better pick for a100+mph car. I'd still go for the XLX2 though. The mmx8s runs much hotter. With the XLX2 you won't even see the fan turn on...
@josephcaruana9165
@josephcaruana9165 2 года назад
Definitely I would go for the 1650kv if it fits. First because of the weight of the Limitless and secondly if you use the 2400kv and the standard gearing that comes with the rig it will overheat and the motor will run to about 65k rpm that will destroy both the esc and the motor in theory.
@johnk78
@johnk78 2 года назад
The 1721 is meant to run on 8s. Castle lists its max RPM at 90,000. According to his data logs raz shifrin has pushed that motor well over 100,000 rpm. It’s an absolute beast of a motor (and why it doesn’t even have a warranty) and way overkill for Ryan’s project, in my opinion.
@josephcaruana9165

@@josephcaruana9165 These speed run guys are pushing this stuff as much as they absolutely can. Doing things like over charging LiPos I’m not surprised castle doesn’t want to warranty this stuff.
@josephcaruana9165
@josephcaruana9165 2 года назад
@@johnk78 something else that I can't understand is that if you are using 8s times the maximum voltage wich is about 4.2v that while running on load it will drop down to 3.7v and sometimes more if you multiplicate it with 2400kv it will add up to 71,040 so I don't know how they could get 100k with that amount of voltage always if the data provided of the motor and batteries are correct? According to my calculations if the battery is 8s it should be around 6v per cell wich I think it is impossible with a lipo battery and if it is the case it would be very dangerous because it could catch fire and explode
@johnk78
@johnk78 2 года назад
@@josephcaruana9165 Yea. They must be running significantly higher voltages. Which is probably why castle doesn’t want to warranty this “speed run” motor.

🤔 when you started this series I was very excited to see a new build! Not THE FASTEST but something unique for 100 + mph. I hoped to see the build and setup and the first test run pushing it to 101🤣 and then analyzing everything- part after part, settings on hardware and programming on the esc- to gain the speed mile by mile! That’s what I expected to see on your channel! Each of these two systems is meant to push a stock limitless to 140-160 on 8s with maybe minor changes! Where’s the challenge? Seems to me like getting pretty boring! So I feel kind of sad for saying that but I think being true can’t be wrong. With the 1721 you also have to turn the motormount so why even doing the measurements in the last video?

Hey Kevin, totally understand where you are coming from. This is the first time I have ever done a subscriber build for any RC vehicle that I have purchased. I tried making it clear if we did not stay within the measured physical limitations of the Limitless, it would involve a custom layout. I made a commitment to myself that I would truly go with the top choices for power systems from the subscribers as long as its not a troll build. The 2 power systems mentioned in this video were exactly that by a land slide. Not necessarily the choice I would make for 100mph (had a completely different idea with a motor that is not ever used for cars) but either way I think there is a lot to show in the process. AND I do plan to keep all the limitless components uncut so they may be used in the future. Hang in there Kevin, the motor that wins will not be the only one used in this car.

I know this series is for a "speed run build" but what do you actually want to use this vehicle for? 100mph is definitely fast, don't get me wrong, but not crazy fast like some of these speed run guys are doing. The XLX2 1721 is the clear winner if you actually want to do speed runs, one or two passes in well excess of 100mph then done. If you want to bash around a bit and have fun and still easily hit 100mph then the 1717 MMX8s would be the better choice. I'm using a 1520 MMX8s combo in my Infraction.
@RCexplained
@RCexplained 2 года назад
Hey John, this is purely a build series where the subscribers choose the power system to reach 100mph. These 2 systems were the top choices by a landslide. Which one would you prefer to see?
@johnk78
@johnk78 2 года назад
@@RCexplained I understand that but considering both options can easily get to 100mph and way beyond, I don’t see much of a reason for a choice. A stock 6s infraction is good for 80mph. Now make that goal something like 150mph and yea that’s going to be a challenge where the power system choices are going to be more critical. Ultimately it’s your money and your vehicle. What do you want from it. We will be entertained either way. Like I said 1717 if you want a useable car to have fun with driving around, 1721 if you want strictly speed runs.
@RCexplained

I guess the question that both of us have is why was the 1717 1650Kv motor and 1721 2400kv so popular for a 100mph build? This is not what I expected the final 2 motors to be. Even between these 2 motors there must be a reason why majority would prefer one over the other?
@johnk78
@johnk78 2 года назад
@@RCexplained Probably because the 1717 is just a very popular/proven motor. (I have a 1717 1650kv/MMX8S setup for my XMAXX). And the 1721 probably because it is brand new so people want to see it and it’s specifically for speed runs. What systems were you expecting to make it to the top 2? If your goal is only getting to 100mph I think you’ll have more fun with the 1717.
@RCexplained
@RCexplained 2 года назад
Goal is 100mph for this build but this won't be the only target speed or power system for this car. I have many plans for this car after we work through the first subscriber build. Either way I will have fun with it all and hope that there will be valuable learnings that come from each step along the way.
