1025r Gets a New Trailer, That's Not Normal

On the way home from picking up a new trailer I felt a pretty good jolt that I thought was a pot hole. I learn what a shackle on a trailer is and how it can invert. I use JD with a Titan clamp on hitch, test loading my tractor, and find out a few things.

If I seen the video correctly the equalizer is below both leaf springs (front and rear ) that are in turn attached to the two metal hanger straps per leaf spring . . Migjt want to consult a trailer mechanic or view another trailer for comparison..equalizer has to be level or you have a nose up or dove down upon loading/unloading

Im looking for a larger trailer myself and am thinking of getting a car hauler type like yours for the fact that i can easily load it with other equipment as well as with pallets of the material when i go on jobs with my kubota bx. I have a typical landscape trailer iv been using but its only a 5x12 and believe it or not i can fit my kubota bx with my rear heavy hitch, my loader bucket as well as my pallet forks all on it at one time but its pretty hard to load up and is not fun to pull when loaded like that but it does work. My next trailer will be a 6x14 or 7x14 ..maybe a 16 footer havnt decided yet. Thanks for your video it helped give me some ideas.

A bit late now, but I bought an 8 x 18 car trailer to haul my Kubota BX2680 on. It'll fit the tractor, loader, box blade, tiller, pallet forks, pretty much all the attachments and implements I have plus the tractor. Its a tandem axle with brakes on both axles. You can never have too much trailer honestly. I'd rather have a longer trailer and fit my tractor and implement completely on the trailer than have the loader bucket hanging over the front of the trailer or the implement hanging off the back of the trailer or in some cases with a smaller trailer you'd have both of those issues. The trailer I got does have steak bed pockets so I could build sides if I ever wanted or needed to. One of the important things to consider as well when buying a trailer, is the ramp length, too short and you have a steep climb to get on and off the trailer, making loading and unloading more dangerous. Longer ramps are a much better option for safer loading and unloading. My trailer has 5 foot ramps and its pretty easy load and unload my tractor and implements/attachments that way. Another thing too, if you have a belly mounted mower deck on your tractor you'll definitely want longer ramps, as your break-over angle from the ramps to trailer deck would be less to keep from getting the mower hung up when you transition from the ramps to the trailer deck. Same goes for other implements and attachments as well, you really don't want to be getting stuff hung up or stuck trying to load or unload it can make for a very scary situation if you aren't careful. The trailer deck on my trailer is wood, make sure if you get a trailer with a wood deck to get some sealer and put on it as well to increase the life of the trailer deck. I've been thinking of adding some sort of non-slip pads to the trailer deck as it will get pretty slippery when its wet, covered in snow or ice.

@@wildbill23c very nice buddy! Glad you found yourself a nice trailer now .. sounds like it’s gonna do everything you want! Is it a car hauler style or a landscaping trailer? I personally want a car hauler style as I’m tired of the sides all they do is get in my way.. either that or a nice dump trailer.. You’v seen how my driveway is sorta small so I don’t want to go as big as 18 but would prefer a 14 or when a 16’ trailer to fit my needs.. anything larger and it would make pulling in and out of both my driveway and my customers driveway very difficult. I want a tandem axle car hauler or a tandem axle low boy dump trailer.. this post I made was a year ago and sadly I still have not been able to find one in my area due to covid and when I do it’s either way too high priced or I don’t have the cash on me and miss out on it by someone else buying it first.. sooner than later I’ll find me a nice one tho so people can stop saying my trailer is too small 😂 Stay safe buddy!

@@BiffsEquipment Mine is a car hauler. 2 trailers in one basically. I sold my old car trailer so I wanted a trailer I could use for multiple purposes, but with working trailer brakes LOL. My old car trailer's brakes never worked, and was never able to figure out why. New trailer has brakes on both axles. I wanted a 16 foot trailer, but they sold the one I went over to the dealer for before I got there, they had the 18 footer sitting there so I took it. They had 2 18 foot car trailers in stock, funny though the salesman looked at the prices on both, one was $500 more expensive because it was a 2022 model, the one I bought is a 2021 model. Steel prices made the 2022 model more expensive. Trailers here in Idaho are selling fast too, they can't really keep up with sales, just like my Kubota dealer LOL. Yes, I'd love to have a dump trailer, but I cannot afford one, they're $15,000 and up. A 6 or 7 foot by 12 or 14 foot tandem axle dump trailer would be great, and I could haul the tractor in it if I needed. This past month and a half I've hauled 2 loads of gravel, and 2 loads of fill dirt in my pickup bed utility trailer...its a pain in the *** to have to shovel all that stuff out of the trailer by hand. If I had a dump trailer it would have cut the time spent on both projects at least down to about 1/4 of the time....yes, 3/4 of that time was spent shoveling the gravel and fill dirt out of the trailer into a wheelbarrow. Your driveway is pretty narrow, so a huge trailer would probably cause more problems in the long run in your case...a 16 footer would be ideal for your use....the 18 foot trailer I got is the smallest trailer you can haul a full size pickup on, not that I need to do that but its what was in stock and I got a deal on it for $3800 as I had them throw a spare tire in the deal too. Haven't hauled my tractor on it yet, I've hauled pipe, pallets, and a sub-frame for a car, but haven't needed to take the tractor anywhere, and honestly I hope it stays that way, I really hate having to pull trailers especially where I live, people are dumber than a box of rocks around here, pull out in front of you, then creep along just to turn into the next parking lot...or they love to tailgate trailers for some odd reason.

A good choice. I have a 20 foot dovetail similar to yours and really like it. Lets me take my Yanmar YT235 with the attachments right up to the 3 point disk all on the trailer. I did put a couple of jacks on the back of mine to help with loading the tractor when the disk is on it as that thing is pretty heave and will pick the back of the truck up. Not much fun when one is on a hill. As the only axle that has brakes on it then comes off the ground ....... don't ask how I found that out

My trailer is identical to yours. I added a set of side rails made of 5/4x6 deck boards for both sides and the front for hauling mulch or what-ever. Most times I can drive up and off without using the ramps.

With all those size of tractors in the backhoe to get the proper weight balance you basically want the backers of the tractor between the two axles of the trailer or just a little bit ahead When you don't have the backhoe on you want the back tire of the tractor lined up with the back axle of the trailer. Or slightly ahead of the back axle if you have a rear Implement on Now these are just some rough ideas of where you want your tractor place do you will have to adjust accordingly too much tongue weight is always better than not enough. And with the weight of your tractor as long as you don't have the loader overhanging the front of the trailer there is no way you can put too much weight on the tongue to cause any unsafe conditions

Get a set of jackstands to put under the droptail, at each corner. Takes most of the stress of your hitch.

The loading could be the reason the axle was NOT in the correct position. Blocks under the rear main frame OR mount 2 wind down jacks (one on each side at rear) to use as stabilizers. Ever load on a tiltbed trailer? Eliminate the ramps and is more stable (PERSONAL OPINION) to load on. A "Deckover" is higher but doesn't have wheel wells to take up deck space. And can be loaded with palletized material easier.

Get yourself a block of wood like a piece of railroad tie and put it under the back of your trailer to stop it from squatting so much, this will alleviate the up pressure on your truck. Another option would be to install drop jacks on each sided of the back of the trailer on the side.

You want to have the tongue about 1 or 2 inches above level from the back of the trailer so that the front axle doesn't drive into potholes or speedbumps rather try to have the axle skip over them, you will have less whiplash effect, also if you brace the rear of the trailer with some blocks or better yet some feet jacks that will keep your trailer from raising the truck which isn't good for the suspension or hitch components, just a suggestion.

Ty Canavan hey Ty, thanks for the info. Any recommendations for the jacks? Do they make bolt on or do they need to welded? Thanks for watching, Tom
@tycanavan3705
@tycanavan3705 5 лет назад
They make both kinds, bolt-on and weld-on, your trailer supply shop will have them and even Amazon but before you choose which kind, analyze what fits your need, since you have a dove-tail you should look at one that rotates even with the deck so that you don't hit it by mistake or it limit the width you put on the trailer or see if it might be more simple to put a couple of blocks under each side, anyway works. Good Luck and Nice Video !!!

You need to pay attention to tongue weight. Add the trailer weight, tractor, backhoe and bucket. Your tongue weight should be 10-15% of that total. It's important to get that right. A weigh safe trailer hitch for your truck is invalueable for getting it right. Be safe.

They should make these trailers with some fold away drop down bars in back for loading and unloading so you don’t need to use blocks or anything to help alleviate all the force on the ball.
@wildbill23c
@wildbill23c 2 года назад
Some of them have stabilizer jacks on the back corners of the trailer for that very purpose. Some people attach their own. The issue in this video is he needs a drop hitch in the receiver of his pickup, the tongue is way too high for loading and unloading.

Be sure and chock ur wheels when loading or unloading. The weight coming off of the trl. Could possibly lift the rear wheels of trk. off the ground, and there goes ur brakes. That is not a fun ride. It would be especially helpful to load or unload on as level a ground as u can. U can also block under rear of trl. to keep it from mashing down. Hope this helps. Not being critical, just be safe. Good looking set up.
@aday1637
@aday1637 5 лет назад
My advice: find a buyer for that and get yourself a trailer sufficient for your 1025R TLB. You got 3000 lbs there (check the specification book). That trailer was actually flexing at the weld where the dove tail and the flat deck meet. You couldn't see it unless you were watching someone else load the tractor. You should plan on spending about $3500 to $4200 on a trailer that will meet your needs. That $2500 to $3200 trailer ain't it.

It still bugs me how far back they put axles on modern trailers. It just kills the load capacity for any given sized trailer. Enough whining, tho, just wanted to point out that the equalizer still don't look right to me, but I could be wrong. Set ups I've seen have the spring over the equalizer on both ends, but that doesn't mean that is the only way to do it. Flipped shackles aren't too big of a deal, just wedge a hammer in the shackle and reef on it. Can you tell I own a CJ? rofl. There are many fixes. Two of which are longer shackles or triangular shaped shackles where there is a center bolt designed to contact a point an not allow the shackle to go over center. In a trailer application, tho, I wonder if a boomerang shackle would be a better choice. Suspension travel limiting straps should also work, although might be a problem on tandem axle systems. I actually found a trailer specific suggestion of just buying a longer equalizer. That's seem s like a good fix too.

Ok, so how did this happen? I'll tell you. When you are pulling an empty trailer and the trailer brakes are set "too sensitive", this will happen. Ask me how I know. LOL The tires lock up and the shackle flips, usually both sides. So watch your settings on the trailer brakes, especially when the trailer is empty.

Hello sir, I read on a review on a clamp-on trailer hitch receiver, that the clamp-on receiver wiggles and comes off when moving a trailer. Is that true with your receiver? Can you tell me about your experience with your receiver? I highly appreciate it if you can tell me what to expect before I purchase this type of clamp-on hitch receiver. Thank you.

@ataleofthreecabins1025 4 года назад
david78840 depending how heavy of a load you move around it can pivot. I do crank down pretty tight on it and many times need a rubber mallet to loosen it. Moving my large trailer(empty) it has moved but never came off. Smaller items (log splitter, 10’ trailer) it does not budge. If on a hill or incline I would not move anything heavier then the tractor.
@wildbill23c
@wildbill23c 2 года назад
It can work itself loose while moving trailers, it can and will bend your bucket as well. A much easier and better way to move trailers with a tractor that doesn't have a draw bar is to use a 3 point mounted receiver hitch...I think I paid about $70 for mine off Ebay. Put a regular hitch in the receiver, same one that goes in your pickup's receiver, backup to the trailer and simply raise the 3 point and off you go...I always latch the trailer tongue latch onto the ball just to be safe though, don't want to hit a bump and have the trailer drop off the ball while you are moving it...Its so much easier to line up the hitch to the trailer with one of the 3 point receivers than it is trying to do it with one of those clamp on bucket hitches...another method I've seen people do is mounting a ball on the bucket itself, but again you can and eventually will bend the bucket. I know a few pallet fork manufacturer's have built in receiver hitches in the pallet fork frames, so you can remove the forks, put your hitch in the built in receiver in the fork frame and do the same thing, might be easier to see and line up with the trailer that way as the bucket wouldn't be blocking your view.
